I've only spent a few spare hours on the last two which are of the roof of the MS. I don't have that much time tbh and it's only like draft numbero duo so it'll get much better. The others are on draft 4 or something like that but are old in some ways.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: this is a supremely high-quality map that makes me want to grow old and plant marigolds and parsnips in the Norwegian fjords; reflecting on all the good things in life such as this fine collection of polygons and textures.

Keep it up!

The best thing, is that with steam update support, you could finish it up and we'll probably see it in a patch after 3.0.

That is seriously the best map I have ever seen in NS.

you sir, are amazing.

Wow, I like that. Very much.

Only thing one could really complain about are the xen erhh.. infestation lights. It strikes me as odd that they're yellow when they're obviously emitting red light.

Your lighting is neat, but looks a bit Xen-ish, which Flayra does not like. If Flayra liked Xen-style lighting, then ns_europa would be an official map.
You need more infested textures; they're not varied enough. I like your tall room but I worry about framerates for people with less-than-decent hardware.

Do you have a layout planned, and if so, would you post it?

I'm impressed, really, but one thing I learned from posting to all of KFS's old ns_eclipse threads is that a textgasm a la Ricey's post is completely useless as far as feedback is concerned.

My god! have you just obtained one of Jesus sandals and transformed it into pixels....Indeed you have.
The hive looks like hell....absolutely great..and the last few pics..well...I have just been blown into my christmas tree...and as a result the cheapy boubles have cracked all over my face..but for this, its worth it.

Wow.. great work so far!
I love the orange/yellow blob thingies.. keep them, they look awesome.
The only problem I see is the floor in ns4.jpg doesn't look too great. The greeny/brown looks odd to me.

DrunkenBozo has a point about the tall room, even tho it looks damn fine!
• MrBenMrBen ns_eclipse, ns_veil caretaker Join Date: 2002-11-14 Member: 8575Members
ns4.jpg has water on the floor which is why it looks kind of odd though hopefully knowing that will clear it up and it'll make sense.

I never expected this sort of reaction, cheers guys!

I feel sooooooooooooooo sorry for you.

If I'm not mistaken, the yellow lights aren't infestation, they're glowing rocks in a mine.. ?

Oktagone is having it's regular omg we suck session, hopefully all return soon. Clipnodes will be an issue but i have my clip brushes handy and i'm not afriad!! HONEST!

Actually the red/orange things are infestation, based off the middle of the hive idea however if you'd like they can be rocks.

Looks great. Doesn't fit the NS universe though, specifically the lighting. Note that the majority of the NS maps tend to stay away from such harsh red and yellow hues. While it's nice to be different, there's also something to be said about staying in theme. I think I already complained to you about the red-ness.

Maybe add some nice, soft blue spotlights shining down, coming from those blue things in the marine start. Don't be so lazy and rely on texture lighting all the time, you bum! And the usual technical concerns (you're going to run out of leaves and clipnodes really soon, blah blah blah).

I would just like to take this chance to declare you winner. You just won!

Excuse me while i go quit mapping and saw off my hands.

You Bum!..that reminds me of the Big Lebowskie..great film..
anyhow!

I disagree, while it is breaking from the NS mould, I feel the constant regeneration of the same formation gets a bit tiring if not boring for the playing world.
The reds and yellows are great in symbolising evil and danger, which is what I generally think of when Im entering a hive.
I mean if the mapping is to a good degree, and the colour scheme can fit accordingly..then I have no quarrels.

Also, the other pictures show more industrial side to the map, encouraging greens, blues and rockfaces, which will help balance the overall feel.
keep it up.

I think it's nice someone is doing something different. Too many of the maps look the same, and it gets pretty boring seeing the same thing done over and over.

The hive area looks awesome with the reds and yellows and the tall room has the pale blues and greys that the marines love so much. It may not fit into the current flow of NS maps with its color scheme, but surely the NS Universe has some variety

This is awsome!!!
I've always wanted a map like this. Is it a mine? I love mines.

I agree on the red lighting, though. I'm not much of a huge fan of them in large rooms. Preferably corridors.

It looks nothing less than amazing, MrBen. I hope that the gameplay is as good as the leveldesign.

btw, those rock texture in the MS room looks mighty good. Is that texture located in the NS wads?
