Okay, now I'm REALLY ticked. We put hundreds of dollars into their little company and this is the best service we can get? It just said "updating Steam platform" for 2 minutes and then said Steam was unavailable. Valve doesn't answer e-mails EVER, puts off the release of HL2, which, by the way was PROMISED to be out in September, and can't even use a firewall to keep themselves, their code, and their customers safe?!?! Half-Life is my favorite game of all time, obviously signified by the fact that it's one of the only PC games I play and the fact that I've put a minimum of 200 bucks into HL games, and now I'm starting to rethink it all. I was building a new PC just for HL2, but now I'm reconsidering playing HL2 at all. These guys are really losing a lot of customers through their crappy little work ethic. Thanks a ton, Valve. Hope your cranks fall off. </Rant>

No matter if you don't have a life or have a life because you are complaining about Steam doesn't mean you don't have the right to complain. You paid for the game (most of us) and you should also expect it to work. You could if you wish compare it to a car, you buy the car, but the engine doesn't work because it needs to be updated at the workshop. However the workshop is overloaded so you'll have to wait for days before you can drive your car...
As for now it's totally **** up, and this is not the first time, you would think a company as Valve who says they see them as a part of the community would've done anything about this kind of problems by now..

I wanna know why they don't just fix the offline support (a problem us with DSL don't have to worry about anyway), fix the friends network once and for all, and be done with it. This is a huge waste of time. In fact, how about making offline support an optional patch?
Oh yeah, and I bought a few other Valve games over the years. Come to think of it, I haven't put all that much into the Valve company itself. I've donated to various mods and stuff over the years, but that doesn't go to Valve. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Poo. Steam works, but games still don't. We've still gotta wait for the Valve servers to go back up. EDIT: By the way, I checked the error logs, this is what it said: Error:CJoinGameDialog::OnSteamError() : launch game failed, with steam error: SteamProcessCall(WaitForAppReadyToLaunch)(0xab0007,0x21ffc04,0x21ffd0c) failed with error 200: Failed to connect to 207.173.177.19:27032, WinSock Error 10061 "Connection refused"
You think Valve is using a firewall yet? Maybe another hacker could get into the network and do a better job getting Steam running than Valve itself! I can dream, cant I?
If you dont like steam then dont use it. We dont care if you cant load it or what ever. It amazes me how much people take HL for granted, it gives them hours of play time but when something doesnt go there way they flame it to hell. Deal with it and wait. No its not working for me either but im not complaining

For those who can't get past logging in window - it took mine 15 minutes to verify the first time. After that initial load, no problem.
As for me, all that's left to do is to upload H-L. It's not going to happen anytime soon. Ho hum. I wish there was a way I could download it myself (as a .zip or .rar) and sort it out myself instead of this auto-malarky.

I suppose I'll live, but this is quite obnoxious.

just very very slow......
EDIT: By the way, I checked the error logs, this is what it said:
Error:CJoinGameDialog::OnSteamError() : launch game failed, with steam error:

judging by that, I THINK it's a Valve problem.
