So, has anyone seen any movies that have been out for a while, but you just haven't gotten around to seeing yet, and now that you have, you realize they're great?

What I have recently viewed, and now recommend:

Amelie
Lord of the Flies

meh, this is REALLY old...but, "the great race." lol, this is a really funny movie. it's with jack lemmon when he was younger. (he's been in grumpy and grumpier old men, out to sea, and the odd couple.) <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Alright, good, older movies.

    Anything by monty python, obviously.

I also highly recommend anything with Leslie Nielson.

Finally, The Beast. Great movie about the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. (This would be a must-rent for CWAG). I really enjoyed it, and hell, you should all rent it.

    The Wild Geese.

It's an action film set in Africa and has Roger Moore, Richard Burton, Richard Harris and loads of other British actors.

The play a bunch of ex SAS, Parras and Commandos hired as merc to go rescue some leader for an African country that is having a revolution.

It's on BBC1 tonight funnily enough so if your in the UK I would highly recommend it.

I wouldn't reccommend watching the film of The Lord of the Flies, I read the book first and I thought it was amazing, the best book I'd ever read. When I saw the film I was really dissapointed. It gives you a visual image of what the boys looked like, and what the island looked like, and it was nowhere near as deep on film.

The same goes for other films based on books, War of the Worlds, Day of the Triffids I loved them all when I read them, but after watching it on film I couldn't actually read through them again.

Anyway, I would recommend any film directed by Kubrick

The Beast is an OK movie, nothing special but, worth a watch i guess. However being a movie from the 80's it has that obligatory gory scene which is suposed to make your toes curl. (bad pun)

Akira Kurosawa is amazng as a director.

Rashomon: Story of a woman getting raped and her husband's subsequent death told from 4 different perspectives, each one glorifying the narrator.

Ran: Kurosawa's interpretation of King Leer set in ancient Japan.

    Both are excellent.

Actually, the first Rambo movie isn't bad, its actually pretty good. It actually has a point to the story, and a very valid one at that, especially if you know any Vietnam vets like that.

Stallone's acting is horrible yes, but other than that the movie is good.

Rambo II and III are crap though.
