The HUD ship goes where you would put the thermometer and compass at in your inventory, it shows you things that you would normally only be able to see with the cameras.
I doubt that would ever happen (although that would be pretty cool to have XD) But you could always press Shift and Tab at the same time on steam to open up your steam browser and play music from there.

Actually, the last one with the scanner room, your not supposed to put the Hud chip in the upgrades. Your actually supposed to put it on where the signals, thermometer and compass would go on your paper doll in the PDA.
