My suggestion for Vortex is essentially a single use Phase Gate. Fade drops both ends, first alien to come in contact with either end warps to the other, vortex disappears.

In nano I prefer to do two towers in each doorway roughly centered. A 2 high and a 3 high. If spaced right it limits entry to one marine at a time on foot, gives one gorge enough clogs to deal with both doorways the same, and shouldn't block higher…I am not sure if we can add it as a Silly Strat since it worked so well, but what Titus did in the WC with two Phasegates in hub was really unexpected (at least to me) and seemed to work really well.(Quote)

In all seriousness, there are some issues with the game for sure. I think the Alien rush is not so much unbalanced as it is a result of asymmetry. Yes, Alien can run in and do a lot of damage over and over, but marines loosing an RT is not nearly as big a deal as aliens loosing a harvester…I think this is why I like NS2 so much actually.
