First suggestion would be to try without any mods running, it looks like you have quiet a few loading from your log.

From my understanding of VAC, I believe that a VAC banned acct cannot join a VAC secured server.
Should NS2WC be hosted on non-vac servers, it would only invite people to cheat.

Can you post your specs and upload your log?
To upload the log:
Go to %appdata%/Natural Selection 2/ and upload the log.txt.
The easiest way to get there is to press the windows button and the letter r, type in in %appdata%/N… -

For first time optimization mostly just caches lots of textures and such, the settings were probably the flat out default for the game ( I could be wrong here )

Overall this would be a waste of development time and even more stress with bugs that is entirely unnecessary.
Strongly discourage OSX development, especially considering the small userbase that would run the game on a mac, even less, the ones… -
