Fixed it by deleting the shaders.
Don't know what broke them, but deleting them resolves this. -
Have you tried to changing startup properties of NS2 in steam?
LC_ALL=en-GB.UTF-8 %command%
should change the locale the game runs in. -

Btw: couldn't you just collect all our NS2 workarounds for Arch and upload them to AUR, for example as NaturalSelection2-workarounds?

NS2 always was a game, that you can play on Linux, but its support is fuzzy at best. -

Yes, the funny thing is: if you ask sh_teamstats, it mostly says somthing like 18/20 players are in their preferred team. At the same time 5 ppl complain that they got switched. That just doesn't add up.

Well... under Linux it is under '~/.config/Natural Selection 2'. Thank Torvalds for auto-completion in terminal.
You have to realize: the devs just hate Linux, or Unix as a whole.

Well, it has not crashed on me for years (except that one build, that got fixed in less than 24 hours). And I am on Arch, which means my systems configuration literally changes from day to day.

Well, the game itself runs fine for me. This problem is just caused by Arch being too edgy.
I just don't understand, why every other game I have installed, many of which don't even get upgrades anymore, don't have a problem with any libs… -

It reads like something is wrong with the fonts and GTK. Can you try to install or reinstall the Adwaita theme?

Strange... when I unpated to Kubuntu 16.04 beta, the sound stopped working once again. I assumed Ubuntu and Kubuntu use the same versions for alsa and pulse?

You could of course download the old packages, compile them and but them either in the Ns2 or the Steam lib folder.
Or you switch distros... Had to do it twice now to keep Ns2 running. I highly recommend Manjaro. It's awesome.

My dependency problems with pulse and alsa got resolved by editing the launch options for NS2 in steam. Try that:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" %command%
