Warhammer 40,000 MMO
Well, smack me down and call me grandma, but I am honestly surprised. I didn't think they were gonna do it.

They better not ###### it up.

###### yeah.
Someone with a better grasp on the 40k universe could probably answer this, though.
They had better do it Huxley/Planetside style though. (MMOFPS 40k? ###### PWN.) Otherwise I'll use my trusty spork to do some throat-stabbage.
That would make every second of life on this miserable planet something to cherish here-after.
this is a dream come true! The only way it could be wrecked is if they don't include Tau...

God... Leman Russes spinning througha bombed out hive, las rifles crackling in the night air with commissars shouting orders and shooting their own men. Cultists screaming and rushing at the guardsmen, only to be cut down by a space marine with a nasty case of Crusade in his finger.
Mmm.
Warhammer 40,000; better than sex.
I'm still waiting on a film version of the Horus Heresy, too. CGI. By the guys who did the DoW intro.
Oh man that'd be so awesome.
Oh man if it was like Planetside...... whoa.

There's a german film coming out called Damnatus about the inquisition. Fan made and looks really decent.
Honestly, it CANNOT be WH40K unless you have the vehicles. It can't be like WoW, which is a traditional MMORPG. It needs to be MMOFPS unless those guys find some way to put it together to be an RPG. Obviously, combat is going to have to be completely real-time, otherwise you can't capture the imaginative spirit of what WH40K SHOULD look like on the battlefield...even if they manage to turn it into an RPG, it would end up looking like an Oblivion online type game or D&D online...
I would have to imagine this would be a game that would play similarily to Planetside.

Well, if the melee combat is like Oblivion's, I'll be fine. (Man, I love hitting people with a two handed sword and seeing them crumple >:))
Edit: Apostrophes.
/me goes to play WH40k:Chaos Gate
I think it would be cool if the game mechanics were designed to allow the players to sustain more damage and survive longer than, say a game of Counter Strike where all that is required is a head shot. That way when you play, it's not a peanut gallery. It would require tactics to truly crush the opposition when individual skill doesn't work. Battles would be longer and more interesting than short and frustrating like certain FPS's out there.
EDIT:
OMG I compleletly forgot Necromunda. It would work perfectly in a MMORPG game. The only problem I have with Necromunda is that I feel that it encompasses a rather small section of WH40K. It focuses around a Hive City, which even though is perfect for an MMORPG, I really feel that a MMOFPS would capture the original spirit of WH40K...it would be more epic, you know? You could travel to and attack different worlds (maybe) and it would allow for massive battles like the tabletop game...
/me cries
Oh god... This will be so very, very terrible. MMOs and the wh40k universe do not mix. At all. I don't want to see an imperial space marine say "lol" ever. <b>Ever</b>.

Is Relic making the game? As I understand it, THQ is just producing...
It's a bit tough to imagine how they're going to bring the fluff together with the epic-ness of battles. On one hand I'm very excited to walk around the gothic post-apocalyptic cities as an inquisitor, and really <i>live</i> in this futuristic world, but it wouldn't feel like 40k if you don't have huge armies facing each other. I hope they do include a good number of races (SM, IG, Inquistors/SoB vs. Orks, Chaos, Nids seems like the minimum) and the ability to really develop your character in a unique fashion.
I really can't see "grinding" in this game the way it exists in WoW... "Bring me ten gretchin teeth"... Just no. I imagine some sort of universe would have to exist with multiple planets to really do justice to each race.
I could go on in this stream of consciousness, but it really seems like an impossible task to make a successful game out of this franchise. If they do, however, I will be playing it no doubt.
Take Planetside, make it have sex with SWG+JtLS expansion, then paint their lovechild with pure awesome, inject some minced goth, and then marinate it in liquid war.
Voila, the perfect WH40k MMO.
Edit : For those asking if Relic is making it, no, they aren't. It's some Austin-based developer under THQ, I heard mention of devs from NCSoft somewhere on the RDN's 40k forums. (Not NCSoft themselves.)
As long as I can pilot a dreadnought, I'll buy it.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Unless you died two thousand years ago and had your body sealed inside one, you won't be piloting one anytime soon.
Dreadnaughts don't have "pilots", they're essentially walking life-support systems for the near-corpse inside.

There is a 40% chance they'll cheesify that entire aspect of the game and the player will be able to "pilot" them.
WH40k is the best stuff eeeveeer.
Just like many things, this can end up awesome or crappy.
But hell, if they capture just the feel of wh40k it'll make it all worthwhile.

They better balance it like Blizzard, then. "You can pilot an unstoppable killing machine, but... you'll never know <i>true love</i>. So there."

But of course, then you just download the UI mod which adds True Love Tracker 2.37 to the radar getting around the only downside to it.
We're talking Blizzard, of course...

Bah, I knew as soon as I posted that that SOMEONE would be the smartbutt. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they include a remote piloting feature or something just to appease people like me.

Yep, and only the IG and Space Marines will have females, and in fact, suddenly 90% of the terran-related characters will have boobs, and ALL the other races will be ugly and unappealing to children below the age of 10, thus creating an instant and permanent imbalance in the game, until an expansion pack includes "light dark eldar" and "reformed chaos space marines", and BOTH of them have boobs.
People. Want. To. Be. Heroes. And. Kick. ######. Or. At. Least. Have. Funky. Abilities.
Problem is, that goes like crap with Warhammer, as most people do definitely not kick ######. :/
*shrug* At least, I seriously doubt it will work out, either they stick to it closely by for example making a dreadnought a class and whatnot, but then most people will go at that, and either you'll have tons of dreadnoughts on the battlefield, or they will limit the amount of them on the battlefield, but then there will be queues - they could also limit the amount of dreadnought players I guess, but then they could end up having inactive players hog the dreadnought slots..
...Or they cheesify the whole thing (ie. by making dreadnoughts pilotable), and it falls to the ground anyway.
One of the few ways I could see it work would be that it's basically just a MMOFPS with no RPG elements, ie. you don't have any reoccuring characters (maybe other than saying that when you play an imperial guardsmen, your name is "this and that", and you look like "this".. ie..) And then you just join a battle, like you join a FPS server, which would either not begin until a certain amount of players have been met, or just play rounds, and on the server you get to choose what you play as in that battle. So you decide on a battle to battle basis, which would avoid dreadnoughts being hogged as I mentioned, or piloted :S
... But then it's kinda just a huge FPS, which could easily end up lacking depth.
And finally, yes.. the "lol"s would be terrible <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

There are NO female space marines.
And there are also no female IGs, unless you are taking the assassin temple in consideration.
Eldars have female warrior by default, as do dark eldars.
Ordo Mallo has a chapter made of females, but they are a mix between SM and IG and they follow there own ruleset.
Orcs dont have a sex, cause they reproduce by sporing.
Chaos can have females, if a female falls before chaos, but the default models dont include females.
Tyranids have females, but without boobs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
Edit: And there WILL NEVER be female space marines, cause SMs are genetically engineered from their chapters primarch. And because the primarchs were genetically engineered from the emperor and the emperor is in fact male...
I love 40k. I love the lore, I love the style. Worked for them for years. This isn't going to work.
