lolfighter, that's exactly what I mean. It isn't impossible, but it will take work.
If they wanted to work a MMORPG, then it would have to have nothing to do with the war. It wouldn't make sense to play a military unit in an RPG since you are given so much freedom. I would imagine that you would play as a "loner" character from any of the races. Maybe.

It could work like the old Jedi system in SW:G. I.e. you play for so long as a Guardsman, if you get (x) amount of XP or whatever, you can create a second character who's a Space Marine. And then if you do well as that, you can create an inquisitor or whatever.
That would mean that eventually there'd be no guardsmen left, though.
Not sure if I'd be a warp spider (totally suits my playstyle but I'm no so sure about the outfit), Swooping Hawk (Flying is awesome :D ), Striking Scorpion (the suits look cool and I prefer their fighting style to the howling banshees) orrrrr a dark reaper (long range sniping with a missle launcher... win! :3 ).

Just wondering, but what's the fascination with the Tau, is there something I am missing about this addition to warhammer40k?
I remember back when I used to enjoy painting the models as a kid I would love going to the GW store, was a nice friendly fun place to chill and paint etc, and then it all sorta changed. They painted all the stores black with black ceilings, and all of a sudden the rather humerous orcs became green things that looked like they crawled out of a bad horror movie. Everything seemed like they were taking it wayy to seriously. And then the tau came in, which was pretty much the last straw. In what seemed to me like a fairly unique and interesting universe that had a strong sci-fi fantasy theme they added these things that looked like they came straight out of some dodgy anime/transformers comic. Maybe I am just too averse to change though =p

I gotta agree to some extent. I like that the models have become a bit more serious and involved with the rather dark storyline but I miss some of the silliness provided by Orks and to some extent the Imperial Guard (Squats anyone?) and even the Space Marines. The Tau are to me a pretty lame addition made to please the generation raised on anime. I can live with them (I particularly like the Kroot) but I find it rather discourteous to beg for them before any of the long standing races that seem almost forgotten (does anyone play/like the 'Nids nowadays?)...
Tyranids are my favourite army drawn with Eldar. I could never decide which of the two armies I liked best so I always just alternated between both :3
I love the Eldar's armour designs; they looks so sleek and graceful. I also like how weird an army they are and their emphasis on manouverability.
I love tyranids because... well... I've always been a big fan of aliens (giger). Before the redesign when they looked totally different I just liked that they looked weird and kinda frightening. Now I like how they look like aliens and kinda frightening :p Again I also like how mobile they are and stomping on people with a carnifex (called screamer-killers back when I started :3 ) and/or Tyrants is funny.

Dont get me wrong, I do like that they made it a little more serious and befitting of the storyline, I just think they took it too maybe a little too far. Dawn of War did way more for the "cool" factor of 40k than any of their somewhat desperate attempts to keep the interests of a target audience that is no doubt turning more and more toward computer games. And to me the Tau embody those "desperate attempts", then again I could kind of see it coming when the Necrons came in.
More on topic, I cant decide whether an MMO is a good or bad idea. The world of 40k is awesome, and THQ hit the nail on the head when it came to bringing that universe and game to the realms of computer gaming. Maybe they can pull it off again? who knows!
I like the Tau alot more compared to the other races. I love the play style of the army and the cleaner look of the models compared to the other races. Even though they are a definite divergence from the usual look and feel of WH40K, I can't help but enjoy them.
Actually, it's mainly because of the way they look. Their models carry long rifles and sleek cannons instead of melee weapons. They have a decidedly more sci-fi look compared to the Space Marines, Imperial Guard, or Eldar. Before the Tau came out, I thought that the Space Marines were too bulky, the Eldars to stylized, and the Imperial Guard too WWII-ish.

@ Gem : Clearly, if I could pick, I'd be going Wild Rider from the Eldar, or possibly Warp Spider.
If I had to choose Imperial, I'd probably want to look into a Space Marine Scout, or of course the ubiquitous Landspeeder Tornado with Assault Cannon. Orks? RED WUNZ GO FASTA! Chaos? Clearly the goal is to get posssessed by a Greater Daemon. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> I wouldn't pick Tau. I very much agree the Tau were 'must get the anime generation on board', think of them as Yu-Gi-Oh in space and you're pretty much set, as that was the Marketing for them.
The 40k universe was always meant to be basically feudal medieval in space. There is high sophistication, but it's only vaguely understood by a small group who resemble more a priesthood than a scientific community, and they don't really understand it:
