Well Barlow you make me jealous with some of your screenshots here. I loved mapping for NS1 but I'm not exactly getting used to or enjoying my work so far with the Spark editor.
Keep it up man, everyone on this forum is watching you!
Since the last screenshot I posted of the corridoor with the signs, I been spending more time trying to figure out other things than I have been mapping. Pressing on I goto rebuilding that corridoor, Making it taller, More commander firendly, more eary and contrasty. I do want it to look a bit more run down but i am going to wait for more models and the addition of decels before trying anything more.
Usualy 40 fps'ish everywhere. I thought it would have been much less in comparison to the DM levels... I been checking things out in Wireframe mode, I can get it to run a lot smoother but I will wait to see if any tweeks happen with culling first...
Just done a vid where I run around in those parts.

Haha..nice.
Two questions: -Is there some secret way to get a proper sky box going or did you just use a huge cube with the sky textures? -Do you seal off the parts you are working on with these kinda cubes to improve performance?
no, its all open, lags to hell if I look at the whole level through one of these holes.
For the skybox. look in the entity list, There is one called Skybox belive it or not :) Drop one in your map and set the Cinematic File to point at: maps/ns2_dm1_skybox.cinematic

Kinda an odd place for either the console or the vent...
*engineer: MUST PRESS BUTTON, TOO MUCH AIRFLOW...
while trying to get to the console fighting against an huge airflow :P

LOL i blurted out when i pictured that. The actual way it setup is fine and i doubt many people would be against it.
He pressed the wrong botton and increased the flow and blew the pannel off into his own face... If they bother to read the sign and keep the cover shut they should never have a nasty surprise.
Ventalation control, not actually supposed have air flow coming out of there, I want to make a dented capping pannel that looks like its been bashed off as well as some reach over ladders thrown down to one side, reach over ladders are real btw, Installed them in places where you need to climb up and over something in my factory building days. I hate those folding ladders... would be cool to see if my mate will model some, nice to see a few movable ladders around proped up where there are wires hanging down. These engeneers cant float you know ;)

Where are ya stuck then? working with layers so far works pretty well though i've noticed too that looking down the map with invisable layers isn't a fun thing to do.
The most annoying thing is it hangs every minute or 2 for 3-4 sec. But as long as you work with 1 maximized viewport (losing the other 3 is so much better for performance) in unlit mode it shouldn't be too bad.
I wonder though if you're past it working even with the above, how does the map run ingame? :p

I think this map is gorge-ous.
I suggest the name NS2_Leonis, implying the facility is found somewhere withing the Leo constellation: the Lion, and that the map really roars!

This shot is awesome. I like the way light is set up.

2nd picture lacks a tiny bit of fancy compared to the rest imho, but every map has these parts.

I tried a huge cube to increase performance, but it doesn't work. Maybe it has to be 2-sided? I don't know..

How's your level comming along? it's been too quiet here in the mapping section ^^ i'm nearly to the point where i can show off what i've been doing.
