You see, most of the time I do judge on individual merit until someone starts to consistently lean certain ways.
There have been some good times when I have agreed with Chris' point of view. Other times, not so much. So far, I've only perma ingorned FocusedWolf. It's just that in general people start to build an image of who you are and that can taint their readings of future postings. Be careful what you let others think about you.

I don't really get the idea of that, if I read a post and it makes sense then I agree with it, if I read it and it doesn't then I don't.
The only reason I would put someone on ignore is if I don't want to read their posts, in which case I can't respond, but if I respond it's always to the post itself.
I'm certainly not going to start lying just to make people think I'm cleverer so they agree with me more, what matters is that people think correctly, not that they agree with me whatever I say.

Didn't know NS had a guild.
I only did guilds for a bit when I started, once they released factions I didn't have much need for them given that it had a lot of interesting PvP options available, and you got paid for them.
They're handy for organization though. I chalk most of our success in AvA up to us sticking together and focusing on the actual objective rather than just deathmatching in the middle of the map. And I don't think we've ever lost a match where one of the other two groups was a guild group as well.
One of the beneifts of playing ranger is that you don't need organisation much, you can run away from anything that attacks you and shoot at anything else. Generally running around the edges annoying casters is your best role.
Really good survivalist class, although not as good for power tripping as the necro.
There's really no substitute for teamwork in AvA though. Sure, a properly-specced loner could take down a shrine and slowly capture it, but a group of four could do it all so much faster. We also used to have a semi-dedicated supporter with us. "Charge!" and "Fall Back!" meant that we could spend all our time running between shrines at 133% movement speed which gave us a lot of mobility. And the heal on "Fall Back!" came in handy too. (Edit: That was back in the day though. Now we'd replace "Charge!" with "Incoming!") Not that I think there's no room for soloers in Guild Wars. Just not in AvA. Soloers can't win against teamwork.
I never did anything particularly competitive, mostly I just played PvP the same way I would a mission, except the enemies were more interesting.
Playing to win has never been particularly interesting for me, much prefer something more relaxed and entertaining, teamwork against monster groups is generally more fun for me because you can think about it, and randomised group PvP on the factions missions was enjoyable too.

Sooo that gameplay footage. Looks like everything is just standing around waiting to be killed to me. Not that I expected so much more, but I don't see what they're trying to differentiate about it.
I like the ideas of open world and dynamic events they talk about but it doesn't seem so obvious in the game from what footage I've seen. I'm also kinda bothered that the necromancer footage showed some old-fashioned toe-to-toe MMO combat, which I'd hoped they'd left behind when I watched the much more dynamic looking trailers for the melee classes and whatnot where people were getting knocked about and stuff.
After how the first disappointed me, I'm going to watch how this one turns out but I'm keeping my scepticism in place. They talk a good talk and I find myself nodding a lot while reading their manifesto but we'll have to see how well they walk the walk :p
I may have mentioned this already, but for me no subscription + auto-teaming is good enough to warrant buying, the rest is gravy. Assuming the rest is >= GW1 quality, of course...

That was a glorified tech demo. Any issues you have with it my very well be eradicated long before the release. As you should know by now from trying out our beloved NS2 alpha. :P
Or it might not. Then again, Arenanet has done this sort of thing before. Then again again, so had Cryptic. Then again again again, all of the relevant developers transitioned to NCSoft when Cryptic sold the CoH/V franchise to them.
And on a side note, I must admit to not actually having followed NS2 during the alpha. How far along is it? Is fun to be had by now?

Nah. It's lots of lag, hit code isn't fixed yet, only base structures etc. But it's coming along pretty quick.

The camera angle in these video's is bothering me... Is it just very too close to your avatar or perhaps looking down towards the ground in an annoying fashion... Meh, could be the FoV.
It looks so cluttered and like your zoomed in somehow...
