why choose the steam system as a delivery method if the patches are so ridiculously difficult to get out?

also, i hope UWE are doing some 'playtesting' with a read NS2 server hosted remotely (in a datacetner) and a decent amount of players (eg. 32). we've already seen what play testing over a Lan on the same hardware with 1-4 people does to a alpha launch...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You know today is Thursday, right? (here in the USA, which is where UWE is)
    Obvious troll is obvious?

If you've read anything in these threads lately, you'd know why they haven't released an update yet.

hmm, looking at the fact it's been 3 months since Alpha release, and we're going to get another alpha patch soon...Beta probably wont hit till Xmas/New Year. Release Easter? I don't mind waiting. Just hope they have enough funds.

Given the current rate of progress, the beta is either the next patch or the one after. That should be enough years for them to get a fade + heavy in :P

I think it would be interesting to more easily see FPS improvements between builds and get a consistent way to measure them, would it be possible to run a scripted sequence in the cinematic editor while logging some statistics from it? Or could a new tool be made for such a task without too much effort?

Wow that's some serious progress. I wasn't aware there was a choke issue, that should yield a nice lag reduction!

just the fact that they're having satisfying internal play sessions makes me happy. but lan latency > isp latency, hope all those lag fixes i've seen listed make this one super playable even if i will happily take plain playable. also looking forward to spiking marines to a wall.

I am guessing that they are playing with a lot of people who aren't in the office, no? They have about half of their staff as outside contractors or something and then there's the closer group of 20+ oldie gametesters I think?

There's a few people here with "Playtester" under there name. Maybe they can give us a little more information?
    Someone go poke them.

meh, i dont think they did with the first patch (since they didnt realize how bad the lag was for people until it was released)... perhaps they've changed that... who knows.

Most (if not all) of the people listed as Playtesters in the forum are playtesters from NS1 so they probably wouldn't have any info. IOW, not all the NS1 playtesters are necessarily playtesting NS2 - and if they are they haven't confessed (or aren't allowed). I don't think the real alpha playtesters are known and haven't been posting in the forum about the playtesting, probably due to NDA.

Edited to clarify my post a bit.

Well he would be the first to know if he was testing for obvious reasons.

Now if he was lying, that's a different story. Even then, who cares?

We were given this title for being NS1 PTs/mappers. It seems like most of the alpha playtesters are an unknown crowd and probably unfamiliar with the game from what the twitter feed is saying. Basically exactly what warmonger said.
