to every european or other non us citizen hoping being able to play planetside with said beta keys from the pcgamer magazine, forget it.
sony region locked planetside, and split it up to 2 regions, north america and europe. NA is run by sony, and the european servers will be provided and managed by german puplisher ProSiebenStat.1 games group. means no playing on american realms and vice versa, and seperate account systems and different virtual currencies. thats why they only give away keys for the us magazine.

QUOTE

Sony Online Entertainment have announced that the running of many of their games is transferring to German publisher ProSiebenStat.1 Games Group in Europe. Games affected include EverQuest II, DC Universe Online, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Free Realms, and this year’s Planetside 2.
While SOE will continue to manage the European servers for their games, European players will no longer be able to play with friends in the US. The two providers will use separate account systems and virtual currencies, effectively splitting each game in two.
Existing European players will be asked to create an account with the new provider, and SOE will be offering a way to transfer characters and progress as well as any virtual currency in their possession. European EverQuest II players, meanwhile, will be able to use their SOE accounts as normal after the handover is complete. All new European players will go through ProSieben, however, meaning that Planetside 2 will be region locked.
SOE’s FAQ on the subject says that “generally speaking, prices for game content, in-game items and services will remain similar.â€

Really, it's a massive overeaction. It's not that big a deal, and while it's obviously a new game, I shudder at one happened when you tried to fight a laggy person in PS1.
On the one hand, assuming there is no difference in cost and quality of service, I don't really care. I would be playing on the euro servers anyway, so it doesn't make a big difference to me.
On the other hand, it's a bit of a ###### move for the few Planetside 1 diehards that are still around. They're probably eagerly looking at Planetside 2 right now. Also, I bet the PS1 servers will be shut down for the PS2 launch, so it's not like they'll have a choice in the matter. But currently, Planetside 1 is down to a single server that houses all players, worldwide. This means that the current community will be split, and after years of playing together that may be quite disappointing to those people.
So, what happens if you change regions, ie: move? I also like how this only applies to certain EU areas, otherwise you're free to do what you want. I'm guessing the entire point of this is to charge Euros for dollars on a 1:1 basis and basically rob everyone there.
EDIT:

Q: Whats the difference in weapon handling "at the hip" versus aiming down the sights? Extreme like CoD (hip firing being essentially worthless at anything beyond point blank) or PS1 accuracy at hip with ADS being a slight improvement, maybe reducing CoF expansion? A: Empire Specific and Weapon dependant. eg. TR have better hip accuracy.
Q: Can an empire capture large facilities in sections, or is it just the "one cc, all or nothing" gameplay like PS1? If they can capture a section, and they grab one that has a spawn point in it, can they now spawn at that spawn point? A: You can capture bases in sections and when you capture a barracks you can spawn there.
Q: How will Infiltrators be able to sabotage enemy equipment? A: By blowing equipment up. Gens will now be interactive things and not require heavy fire power to bring down.
You can have a maximum of 3 implants and implants have tiers. They will be consumable similar to a buff. There will be an exp booster implant that can be bought from the store with station cash.

All modern implants wear out and require replacement after a while. Duh.
Fiction-wise they can say the power ran out, or something. I don't know.
It's essentially a way of weaving T:A's boosters into the fiction. Nothing more, nothing less. I guess if people are carrying some vernacular baggage from implants in the previous game that might cause some confusion.

I'm hoping for purposes of demoing they made the tanks all single-seaters, only because on the GUI in the GamesRadar footage it shows a '1' over the front where the driver sits, and a '2' over the entire turret.
Also, unsure what they're trying to convey with the whole 'teleporter' thing for the Biolab, like... from the outside this building is huge and is the size of a MW map... but as soon as you put a teleporter in, does it really matter how big it looks on the inside, if you just skip past 90% of the "space" to get around?
