So today I parked a sunderer just outside a horrible, pointless meatgrinder. I've been here for two hours, with a constant tick of +2 xp from people spawning there. I'm up to about 115 cert points, I had about 50 when I started. Woo!

I finally re-downloaded this through steam again for a blast and performance wise its about the same as the beta (as in mostly ok with the occasional burst of lag when things get busy) but one thing I absolutely loath is how the unlocks are handled now with an absolutely exorbitant amount of cert points required to unlock anything remotely useful.
So essentially balance is non existent unless of course your willing to spend real money buying "station cash" to even things up u.u
I've seen people who bought stuff already, and bypassed the certs.
He had 3x my HP, 2x my armor, and did 80% more damage than me.
Based off charts and calculations done on the forums, to get the certs for such a thing, it would be half a year if you played at least 5 hours every day and did amazing during those 5 hours.
My friend played for 4 hours and was bragging he got 100 certs. Considering most guns are 700 certs, and upgrades past LV.1 (Which requires 1 cert, then 2 is 20, then it jumps to 500, then 1000, then 1500)
Ect
It's hardly free 2 play if you want to enjoy it, really. I mean, right now is the time to enjoy it, because the unlocks give you an insane advantage. This isn't specialized weaponry, or tiny bursts, or having to chose.
This is like being a LV.30 in a MMO going up against a LV.60. You can possibly win, but it's incredibly unlikely.
That doesn't make it pay to win though. It makes it pay to avoid a grind. I can still beat people who had paid which would make it the opposite of pay to win.
Yes you can still get kills in a lot of fights (I did alright last night for the most part) but against those "premium" players your still at a large disadvantage.
It wouldn't be so bad if the cert price was reasonable but its not and I imagine it would take an age of being walked over before you had enough cert points to buy anything of use.
Back during the beta wasn't the general understanding that the only things you could pay for where boost's/implants and cosmetic items ?
Aside from Weapons and Cosmetic stuff you cannot buy anything else with cash. Defensive Upgrades, Utilities, Performance, etc. have to be purchased with Certifications.
Playing for a few hours yesterday with about 300 kills and doing nothing but Sundy SAM-S today I've gotten about 600-650 Certification points and went from LV7 to LV15. Game isn't super hard nor is it super cash shop, so meh to the Pay to Win notion.
Well after playing a few hours myself (combat medic) with about 90 kills (which to be fair is a little more realistic in a play session than 300) I'm barely pushing 50 cert points.
Better weapons with the accompanying bolt on upgrades (including vehicle weapons) and the added boosters/implants is going to make gathering cert points a lot easier plus even the premium membership can grant up to 50% more cert points per day so I cant see how it isn't pay to win.
Because again a lvl 1 with no certs can beat anything with any weapon if played right? And that for instance, 1000 cert lvl nanoweave means you survive a bullet or two more than someone who hasn't certed it? It speeds up the grind but doesn't make it pay to win.
Paying for premium or buying station cash gives you a huge advantage over most in that you can instantly gain access to the better weapons (for both inf and vehicles) which means killing enemies is easier and in additional gain 25-50% more certs a day (with premium) allowing you to procure the better equipment much quicker.
Yeah you can still kill people if your smart but in a straight up fight (aka most of the time) your at a huge disadvantage.

QUOTE

Real money, then, grants players access to two things: convenience items and cosmetics. So basically, unlock things faster and look ravishingly attractive while doing it. Beyond that, Higby also detailed membership benefits, which include 50 percent boosts to experience, cert point, and resource (think grenades, spawn beacons, and medkits) gain. The goal, then, is to only increase the speed at which paying players can nab new toys – not their ability to rain down orbital strikes on your parade.
That was from an interview with PS2's creative director on RockPaperShotgun.com about S.O.E tackling the pay-to-win issues with planetside 2 which states only cosmetics and convenience items (boosts/impants) can be bought with real money which obviously is not the case now.
The main point I'm driving at is that the cert prices are stupidly high meaning that a lot of people will be out gunned (for a considerable amount of time before they can grind the certs for a single better weapon) by people who instantly had access to the those weapons which in turn gives them a notable head start on upgrading their equipment.
Don't take my word for it just take a trip to PS2's official forums and you'll find a lot of people agree.

During your play time did you capture any larger facilities such as Tech Plants or Bio Labs? Did you destroy gennies or revive people? Because the larger facilities have greatly better EXP for captures and all the little things you destroy/heal/repair/revive add up fast. Last night just off of people spawning on my Sundy I went from 14 to almost 15 with 0 kills.

Almost every weapon unlock for air vehicles (pods and lib guns especially), the TR chaingun, the Saron or Helberd, the magriders secondary turrets, and yes the Lock on HA weapons are all better than the defaults.
I'm sure there are others.
Konohas I was reviving people left right and center as well as capturing a couple of large facilities and blowing up a ton of infantry while driving a tank and I've only just got over 100 cert points. =/
Going by your stats its taken you over 21 hours of play to acquire 600 cert points which still isn't really enough to buy one of the better weapons on offer.
I can understand that there has to be some degree of longevity but that the sort of timescale that you'd need to invest for a single unlock is a bit silly so its not surprising so many people have saved themselves the trouble and forked out their hard earned cash.
Played it for a half hour. Found it difficult to see anything(the map was at night time), found the shooting to be wholly unsatisfying, no tutorials to explain what the heck is going on(that I saw anyway), the map is large but it's filled with so much nothing that it's just large for the sake of being large, rooms are criminally lacking in detail(with some being just a simple square room with nothing in it)... altogether a big meh for me. Uninstalled after 30-someodd minutes of game time.
Can't complain about a free game, and it's certainly better than the absolute dog ###### that gets imported from Asia, but would you rather spend $60 on what's generally accepted to be a quality game(or hell, a shooter that's quality and still active for years at a reduced price), or a free game that you may end up spending more than $60 on in the long run? That's the trap of free to play. I used to work at a free to play publishing company, I've seen purchase records showing nutcases who spend $2,000 USD over the course of one month on a single game.
The only long time motivation, except for the battles being really quite fun, are the unlocks. So by paying money, you take away some of you long time fun. :/

Call them what you want but a lot are flat-out better than the weapons they replace especially on the air vehicle and you cant exclude the lock-on's from your argument when they are a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
Even if there are trade-offs they are not substantial enough.
Maybe it'll be different in a few months time when more people have the better kit but as it stands now its fish in a barrel for most.

No... No... No... This game is way, way too hard...
It is optimized pretty badly, I'd put optimization on the same level as NS2.
For the incredible lack of detail, that make this game look like it's from 2006, the performance is awful. I understand this can be attributed to it's MMO nature, but still!
PS2 currently runs fine with my computer and mix of low and high settings. As for looks, 2006 is a large exageration but I understand where you're coming from with that. Some areas/textures look lovely but others look horribly low res you can easily pick out individual pixels. Am I going mad or was there supposed to be an Ultra setting on everything?
Been having a blast with PS2, only thing I've really been hating is the bases. The fights are no where near as epic as they were in PS1, there are no choke points for a battle to rage out and it feels like zerg tactics will usually win over a base. Also giraffe camo is ###### awesome:

What graphics cards are you guys using, and what performance are you getting?
I'm rolling with a 560 TI with latest drivers and I get lousy FPS even with all low settings and BSODs sometimes right after I quit the game (some kind of graphics driver BSOD ID apparently, and PS2 is only thing that does it.)
