    It's nice and open with a detailed looking atmosphere. I like it, I've felt a bit claustrophobic in the bundled maps.

    Thanks guys. I popped into the editor after a brief haitus and finally got into the groove of things. I managed to get somewhere I <u>really</u> like, and I was thinking of waiting to finish the room before I show it off to you guys, but I just am too excited to wait and decided to show it off to you guys a bit early.

    My thoughts on the matter: Fairly dark in the top corners. I am thinking of adding some more of the deep blue lights there. Probably same color as the vertical light shafts, but a very very small amount. Just enough for the specular maps to show that there is wall there.

    I really really like the bold contrasting shadows from the vertically casted light. I mean I REALLY REALLY like it. I have a feeling I am going to use that style quite frequently in my map. It is just too good to pass up I think.

    The back wall is a bit too dark still. Specifically the pillars. You can't really tell they are pillars just yet because of the texture I used, and that is primarily because that texture does not have that much shine to it. I'll probably change that when I add those blue lights I mentioned earlier.

    More progress on the room. I added some train tracks, which you can slightly in the second picture, but there are big holes which I need to plug before I want to show that off. I might add some warmer lights near the door to make it stand out a bit better though.

    (MACs can go up there but they cannot come down. Lots of problems moving ARCs around the map too. Hard/impossible to see power nodes from commander view too.)

    Woah. That is some crazy color grading on those screenshots Peregrinus. I was worried that the game was going to be a bit too dark on some people's computers, as if the light blue color I was using just wasn't showing up, but the outer shell in the center seems to be lighting up fine . Very curious, which is also funny because I was considering doing another Storage shell rework to look more like Hangar. Are those blur lines when flying through the center from celerity? The colors there are psychedelic.

    Oh wait a minute. Do you have ambient occlusion on? Things look particularly dark in Hangar when you are a skulk, especially around the tooth areas.

    I'll try to fix hangar's mac problem this weekend. I think it was on my to-do list, but I just never got around to it just yet. I do want to make power nodes really easy for the commander to see, and a lot of it I am able to fix fairly easy, but a couple others I need to work the geometry a bit (Command Center).

    Yeah those blurred lines are from celerity. Actually there are no problems with darkness or anything like that. I added some filters to my screenshots for effect ;P ...and because NS2 lacks contrast IMO.

    Is ambient occlusion on by default? I haven't turned it off. One problem in the centre is the draw distance. You can shoot things far away without being able to see them.

    I already know about the draw distance problem. You can actually also see it on NS2_Docking at landing pad. There is a ledge to the east that the gorge can hide on which can shoot the resource tower, and if you stand next to it, you can't see the gorge. I'm not sure what the answer is going to be about that. Either UWE is going to have to up the draw distance, or I'm going to have to close hangar up a bit with more visually blocking walls.

    In anticipation of 1.0, I was working a bit more on Goliath. Got a lot done, but still not ready for a new build. But I did take some screenshots which you can see here:

    Most of the changes are on the workshop room. You can see some of them, but I still need to fix the occlusion geometry for there.

    I have also made a small miniature mockup of what I believe I want Storage to look like. Note: The catwalks are purely experimental, and will probably not look like that. I also had problems scaling certain models, so none of this is to scale.

    Thanks Krozu! The Ready Room was fairly challenging when I had to consider diagonals with the props, whilst also considering the entire wall being propped too. I believe the effort did pay off though because it looks visually unique, and makes the map stand out from the others. The ceiling fans also spin too!


    @Peregrinus: Usually I don't, but this situation kind of warranted it. (Mind you it isn't really up to scale. I'm just kind of 'ball park'-ing it.)

    Being that it is on the computer, scale shouldn't really mean too much. My only real problem was that it took an eternity to move the camera throughout the room when I was trying to edit stuff, so a small model-sized version seemed like a fairly good idea because I could look around it really quickly.

    This might sound like a weird question, but could you show a picture of you're ready room in the unlit perspective with show edges enabled? Curious at how many different faces that area has. Oh and with all props disabled and one with them enabled. Might give me a spark of ideas (see what i did there!).

    Sure thing.

    I use brushes a lot to add trim to areas. I also use it if a prop doesn't cover all of the space it should, so you won't see the skybox behind it. I don't worry too much about sealing the whole room in geometry as I do another outer shell pass with occlusion geometry which should deal with any problems like that anyways.

    The many small light sources make this look interesting. I also like the robotic construction arms. Somehow believable. I like hard sci-fi.

    I just published a new build of Goliath to Workshop. The outer ring is in a more playable state, and some rooms look a bit prettier. Definitely the most playable version to date. After the spark mapper group test on Sunday, I plan to be doing many changes, with another possible overhaul on the horizon. I plan to change things in manageable chunks in order to make updates more frequent, as well as obtain feedback on the changes made.

    Awesome map, very good layout. The ditches on the west side were frustrating though and the FPS hit in Storage was unreal. Looking forward to playing it again.

    Uploaded another build. Changed around a bit of the connector between Navigation and Pipeline (Processing). It is more ventable. If all went smoothly, I fixed the commander's difficulty with dropping cysts in Hangar, as well as shortening the spiral staircase. (I just busted down the bridge into a ramp.) Also moved the power node.
