its your mind. i cant help myself, but i think these screenshots look quite dated, even for a source game, like the blocky rocks in the background, or that relatively basic map geometry. seen better in vanilla HL2. the textures are really nice though, and SOME of the props and models, it makes it at least stand out a bit.

They ruined jumping. HOW THE HELL DO YOU RUIN JUMPING? Whose idea was it to ruin jumping? How did they get people to actually AGREE to ruin jumping? Jumping is the simplest game mechanic <b>ever</b> and somehow they fowled it up.
How hard is it to understand the basic purpose of jumping? You come to an obstacle, and you jump over it. As it stands "jumping" in Black Mesa is just getting up on the tips of your toes and looking down at the obstacle and saying "Nope, that is simply too high for me."
I'd recommend breaking the legs of the man responsible for this monumental cockup, but I have to assume he was born without any because he has <b>clearly never jumped in his life</b>
There was no limit on how many you could get to follow you. Could definitely get that many with you if you worked at it, but only in a few places (since they can't climb ladders and do jumping puzzles etc).
Does anyone else think that the only really disapointing voice acting is the one for the h.e.c.u. ?
They nailed the rest quite fine, i enjoyed the random chatting of the scientists , and even the tamride at the beginning, so much detail and changes to make out, you dont kow where to look first. The jumping feels kinda borked Though, also some ladders are prone to kill you. Like that one in the oxy supply turbine chamber, you can barely dismount after crawling through the spinning fan blades, making you stuck on top of it with that accelerating turbine blades inches from your butt, makes some puzzle just difficult because of that and the jumping.
Only jumping section that's felt borked so far was in the area where you get across the chasm on the hanging cargo boxes since they're all tied to physics. The grenades and satchels being tied to physics makes them feel a bit unwieldy now too.
Haven't finished yet, but I'm guessing this'll be the best bit on the soundtrack

It doesn't make you fall down ladders, it hops you towards whichever direction you're facing, which is infinitely more useful than Source's default jump off ladder action of moving you perpendicular from the wall, especially when dealing with tighter areas like the elevator shafts. They only lock you at the top of a ladder if you're continually trying to move forward while looking away from the wall that the ladder is attached to.
The dismounting also makes getting off midway through ladders more useful seeing as you're actually able to get a sense of the direction you'll be heading and the speed you'll be doing it as. Traditionally with HL ladders, if you're facing parallel with a wall, moving "forward" can move you in two different directions depending on the angle that looking relative to the ladder.

Only ladder I wasn't able to simply look away from and press use to get off safely was the one in office complex that lets you reach and turn off a ceiling turret...

I've been tremendously impressed with how much polish is in this mod. I forget that it's just a mod. Have had some trouble with ladders, and also jumping could use a bit more height, but other than that this is brilliant and I love it.
I wouldn't mind HECU being so relentless if my mouse wouldn't constantly act up as soon as the action starts. It just accelerates like mad with slight fps drops and I can't hit ###### with twitchy moves. Never had this problem in any other source game.
I like how barneys who can't continue on usually says something like "I can't make that jump, you better go on without me. If you can't find a way around, don't sweat it." Their own little interactions with each other are nice too.

Black Mesa got released. I downloaded it, then had 16 hour straight session of Dead Island :P
Leaving games alone until the weekend, but will definitely get to this. I torrented the file, left it for 6 hours, and when I came back I'd uploaded 8gb :P
Can anyone give me some further info on the borked jump?

Heh, yeah the torrent got some mad upload, i've almost upped half a terabyte on it :p
The jump works ok if you just do standard crouchjumps, but Morgan gets epilepsy as soon as tries to jump in water, or when he's on a ladder.. or standing on models of any kind.
