to be fun for the casual/less skilled..
Have we done it yet?
How long until this game is focussed on people of limited skill?
Casual gamers. Often when they die from something, regardless of what it is, they'll come here and whine about it, with the other ten thousand players that are, until the developers feel they must be doing something wrong, and bow to their hideously broken wishes.
Eventually, when the game is so incredibly skill limited that when someone with ten times the skill of myself, has to *really struggle* to beat me, because the engine tricks, speed and dexterity of the game have been removed, then they will probably complain less. Probably.
In all seriousness, the CS developers once had a game that (beta 5.2) was for an <admittedly elitist> community of hardcore gamers. If someone had the twitch reflexes and the tactical mind of a genius, he could take out an entire team of fairly skilled players. I'm not talking about the casual gamer who knows which end the bullets come out, but fairly knowledgable players.
But in time, the CS team realised that cs would not earn them money if they appealed to the hardcore gamer market. They made the decision <and a VERY wise one>, that in order to appeal to the majority of gameplayers on this planet (casual gamers), the game would have to be dumbed down so that they wouldn't get their arses caned by the super players around, every time they played, and would therefore love the game, and buy many more copies of halflife.
NS is probably going to go the same way. I know I'll get flamed for being an elitist scumbag, and maybe I am. I liked CS beta 5.2 (but none past that), and I'm a quakeworld deathmatch, teamdeathmatch, and teamfortress fanatic.
All the skill is being taken out of modern games, to make them appeal to the general public. It's pretty sad really. See below for a very entertaining movie of AUS qw community..A game with very high skill LIMITS. (ie: if you are ten times as good as the next guy, the game won't hold you back)

Don't give NS a glass ceiling for skill.

I posted it there and then spotted the forum area I was in.
You moved it almost immediately.
Thanks.
You want a game where you need skill and experience to survive against good players: Play TFC.
Probably I am better than most casual gamer because I have not met any high skilled players in NS til now. But it seems most n00bs play marine because it is very easy to kill something.

Exactly.
oh, he got a headshot! hes a cheater, thats not possible! he cant be THAT good!, aww...i wanna HMG! gimmie a HMG! Gimmie gimmie gimmie!!
i have very serious doubts that the Dev team will change their whole game just because there are people that are incredibly stupid and have no patience at gaining the skill.
Somehow, keeping NS relatively a "Smart" mans game has kept most of the stupid idiots that ruin the best games out of NS.

well...thats not completely true...there are still the bug exploiters out there....i had the misfortune to meet one yesterday...he was such a **obscenity** retard....he said hed been banned on the server 4 times....it makes me angry
by the way, check that movie.
made by some guys in my qwtf clan --> http://ap.qgl.org
people who play TFC will find it very easy to relate to, as it's the same type of game.
If they're used occasionally and with LOTS of humor.

Sad but very true.
It's probably something learned from CS, beause, in that game people always started to be even more paranoid & calling somebody a cheater or what ever they think of. I believe all this behaviour is from CS in some form.
Practice makes perfect. Play more to get better. If you don't play more, you're not going to get any better.
Edit:
There's always going to be somebody better than you. If you're the best in the game, then I commend you. Also, it's usually wise to play people who are better than you so that you can advance your skill. I'm always on the lookout for servers such as those.
What they need to do is add some recoil and damage indicators to the various parts of the body. That would make NS more of a challenge and allow you to have more skilled players. As for cheats, hopefully Valves anit-cheat will do something for NS.
Ohhh yes, tribes 1.....
We had a guy in our clan who would mid-air mortar people.... every time he shot.....
We watched him one match... he got a 90% hit precentage, with an arcing, slow moving projectile weapon who'se flight path is affected by your movement,, moving high speed at a weird angle towards people also moving at high speeds....
It was scary.
Tribes 2, however, scraps some of that in favor of tactics and co-ordination.
Personally, I'd ratehr have a game like Tribes 2, where teamwork and team-based precision was better than a single good player....
I think I'll go play some T2 right now.....
OMFG! LOOK!

mid air mortars are very very rare due to the fact that the shell needs to arm itself first. I think The timer is around 2-3 secs. (that would make it a hella long MA) now I have had a few MA mortars myself but I was also one of the most redeemed HO players around.
Heaven forbid there be one of sufficient depth to be interesting.

Ok, ok, maybe it wasn't every time, but given the range he could do them pretty consistantly.
This isn't a game like TFC or CS where your team can't grow and you're either l33t or a n00b from the start and throughout the entire game. If you work with your team, even if you suck, you're learning and helping and becoming a better player overall.
Now, what really irks me is when people think that a game needs skill to the point that they just cheat. Skip practice, just use mister aimbot here and let it play for you! I despise cheaters.
And I'm all for the call to not dumb down NS. I appreciate greatly the advantage given by weilding moderate intelligence, this is the way all things should be, but alas, the earth is one giant bandwagon
.....................
anyway, NS is meant to be a game where you win ONLY if u work with your team. And if you do work with your team, it doesnt matter whether you're a n00b or a pro, you can still kick caboose together
but there was really something wrong when the tactical machine pistol was the most effective weapon in the game .
As for your comments on CS you practicly mirror my past to, I played it 24/7 since the first beta and when it got to 5.2 It was almost perfect, the carbine back then was a handheld nuke :/, unforuntaly with each subsequent patch it got progressivly worse and I quit it soon after it got patched past 5.2 and havent played it since.
