I just read that paypal thing.. yeah, don't use paypal, but I don't have any suggestions as to what you should use.

www.spiderwebsoftware.com is a somewhat growing shareware gaming company that used to take credit card orders as early as their 2nd or 3rd game. In person. It's a lot less scary to place an order with a real person, plus its nicer than getting scammed!

p.s.: I will *NEVER* pay a monthly fee for a game I buy, instead I'd go back to reading for pleasure.

Yeah, I'm not too enthused about PayPal, but the main problems with PayPal are untrustworthy buyers/sellers. We know Flayra is here to stay. That leaves only you, the donating fan. Are <b>you</b> trustworthy? If you are, PayPal's great.

I would love to donate, though I dont have paypal. So is it 20$ or 30$? I could try to send it via mail. Though, sending cash through mail isnt very wise. So, if I wanted to donate and I didnt paypal, couldnt pay by check only cash and through mail. Where would I send it?

Thanks for the feedback guys. We're investigating the removal of PayPal and adding a real system ourselves. Of course, we will accept checks via the mail as well soon too. More info coming soon. Thanks again.

I wouldnt mind donating to NS, however what makes you think people wont just steal the Logo and use it? Unless you plan to distribute them by WON ID. And then what happenes if I change CD keys? Or play at someone elses house? I like the Idea of supporting NS, but I dont think people should get any kind of speciall in-game recognition for it.

Maybe a better way to do it is havign a master List posted on the forums of people who are Supporters. And you get a speciall tag on your forum NN.

As far as I can tell it goes by wonid and it will coded into the game. But i'm just wondering why would you change cd-keys? What if those who donated also got a custom forum tag thingie as well, like NS Donor, or Uber L33T Skulk Pimp Daddy.

Anyway - I'd definitely donate to Flayra 'n' Co. NS is worth the cash - just think if you donate $20 U.S. then that is much cheaper than any new games and even most older ones. <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->

GreyPaws, just put a little metallic gold star sticker on the CD case (or insert) that you donated under. Not a problem any more. Only thing it would cause a problem with would be unscrupulous people changing their CD keys to get around server bans. Which they'd deserve to lose that little 'attaboy' recognition note over.

Can we get an update on this please Flayra?
Personally I'd love to donate. But I think $30 each is
a LITTLE steep. Thats £15ish for us UK players.
I've already donated £5 to CS-Nation and am in consideration
as to wheather I should donate to Sven Co-Op as they have "extra's"
    for those willing donate too.

Ideally I think £5-12 is more than reasonable. Some of us just don't
    have £15 to pay for an icon <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Please post an update somewhere (maybe edit your first post in this
topic?) so we can get an idea of whats going on.

Considering I'd buy the stand alone version of NS (if I didn't already own HL) for $40 or so, I'd be more than happy to pay $20 and more than likely $30.

Quite frankly, mods are free. But the work that goes into one is just amazing and incredibly time consuming. If you enjoy the game, its support, and ongoing development, take the time and money out sometime and give the developer(s)/coder(s) a hand. 9 times out of 10, the people who brought you this game did it out of the joy of their hearts, not for money. So be gracious in return.

    Count me in Flayra =]

And thanks for a wonderful game!

As for paypal, I've had no problems with it. Of course there are tons of horror stories, and anti-paypal sites. What do you expect? It's the most successful online payment service ... it's just like anything ... once it gets popular, you have an anti-popular-thing bandwagon and everybody and their brother jumps on. Pffft.

PayPal is fine with me, I would surely pay a few bucks for NS.
However, $20 or $30 for a donation is rather steep, as others have already said. You will probably end up with more money if you ask for $5 or something along that line. You can always ask for another donation later, if that doesn't turn out too well.
Sven CoOp is a very good example, I believe this concept is greatly underused in the HL mod community. Donating a certain amount shoudl grant you little (!) improvements in the game, e.g. a special skin for you model that marks you as a supporter, or a different weapon model, or something like that. Nothing that changes game balance, obviously, although in Sven CoOp you even get a better weapon and no one complains..
Just imagine how many people would be willing to pay $5 to get access to a pulse-rifle-lookalike that does 5% more damage instead of the standard lmg ><!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
This has a huge potential. Still, $30 for a simple small icon on the scoreboard.. hm. I don't think so.

However, put back unused models, skins, and minimal improvments into the game and put price tags from 2$-5 each on them, and I predict any financial problems will be solved for some time.

personaly, I think that all of this talk about getting 'stuff' is sorta silly

just be happy about the icon if you realy want something (I am sorta iffy about svens' powerups, but then again they are not suposed to be used against other players)

oh, and voogru is the one who created the healing armories and other such things in "Voogru's NS-Mod" and it aint cheating, and this has nothing to do with this discusion, so please stay on topic (just look before you insult some one)

    No !
I think there are quite a lot of players who do not want certain players to get improvements in the game, no matter how little.
Even 1% more damage for donators whould just be unfair.
As I said in a previous posting I'm fine with things that do not affect gameplay... I would donate to support the developing of the game, but not to get an advantage over other players!
The reason why this works for SvenCOOP is because you don't have to fight against the "improved" players... he helps you so no reason to complain.
But now imagine a Marine-vs-Marine match in one later Version of NS... one team full of supporter, the other mainly "normal" players... so no bonus affecting gameplay please !

The only servers ive ever been banned out of have been run by jerk admins that tweak with default settings (gravity, airfriction, other little things that bug me) when I voiced my opinion I recive the usual "I'm holier than thau" attitude and get the option of shutting up or getting banned, <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I usually take the ban, plenty of good stock servers out there that are not run by retard admins, I dont really see a reason for getting around a ban.

I cant believe the amount of gaming satisfaction that I have recieved from 1 CD, Half-Life. I used to be a Quake 1 TF, and Threewave CTF junkie. Then Half-life TF then CS, then the free They Hunger series and all the Mods I did get to try. All for the low price of 1 game. Heck I bought the Sims and an add on pack and shelved it, Dark age of Camelot, shelved it Operation Flashpoint and add on, Quake 3 shelved it, WW2 online shelved for 2nd time and even CFS3, Im already bored with Simcity 4. Twenty dollars is an easy sell in my humble opinion, 30 I can still do it, and I am in major debt. NS is nice, just waiting "certain" CS types to run back to 1.6 and CZ. I will be playing those too, but you know what I mean.
