I seem to be on the team list on the site. Just to let you guys know, I never actually signed up. Thus, I'd appreciate if you took my name off the list.
it will hopefully stay as cllose to the original as possible <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
love it how the creator of one of the biggest ns hacks around is on the team.. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
While we are at it hows about CS single player or a Draughts deathmatch.
No to single player 'game' but <b>'training simulations'</b>? Absolute yes.
Cadet build that structure, Cadet weld that turret, Cadet get to this waypoint Cadet track that skulk on your motion tracking, Cadet fly that JP over the radioactive sludge and trip the bridge switch to let your fellow amrines follow, Cadet, knife that onos, Cadet, ask for health. Congratulations cadet you are now a marine, go through the left door to enter officer training...
It would be great help to new players to get into the game without being dropped too far in the deep end on a public server.
Yes, a really great idea... for the Training button. There is a small freeware space fight simulation called M.I.S.C. where the devs built in a training before every new gameplay mode (bomber pilot, commander, etc...) In the commander training they had a mission that was impossible to win. You had to think quickly to realise that the intelligence reports on that your attack plans where made must have been wrong because the enemy had three times more ships to defend the target than you had <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> So the only way to get out of the mission was a retreat. That is quite inspiring for commander trainings in other games I think. For example: You are commander and have two marines with welder, lmg and ha. You are told to take out a hive, but the aliens have already gathered around it. As soon as you realize that you have to get the marines out of that - preferably around some ocs <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Now I'm trying to remember the episode and characters...
I have not seen this episode, but here is the link to <a href='http://i31www.ira.uka.de/misc/' target='_blank'>M.I.S.C</a> for anybody who wants to give it a try. It was created by two or three students a few years ago in 320x200 pixels resolution for a 486 processor. They coded the 3D engine from scratch with lots of optimization and... well 256 colors. But hey, it has bumpmapping and now that they ported it to Windows it supports 16-bit graphics (!!!) and 640x480 pixels (woot!!!)
If anyone does write decent AI for a single-player NS, I'd be hugely impressed. The multiplayer Natural Selection is a massive coding feat anyway - the idea of replicating all that in a single-player game is just terrifying.
Do remember you're most likely going to have to recode everything from scratch, unless Flayra goes mad and gives you the multiplayer NS source code.
'Difficult' is an understatement - a better bet would me a more conventional single-player episode set in the Natural Selection universe, with standard SP gameplay...
Is the SP gonna be like AvP where you can pick what race you wanna be, or is it gonna be rines only cause I can make a great hazard course for rines <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
reseraction, ouchy, this thread has been dead for 6 months - u necromancer!
any ways, if you want to start the project back up, u can, though i can't do much more for it
the lattest SPNSTEA is version 2, its got all the stuff u need to get the project runing, you just need some maps, then ship it off - SPNSTEA2 is not on the web any more - email me for it - amckern@yahoo.com
Info about SPNSTEA2 - it was download over 800 times in 1 day, and that was with only a small news post at the moddb, so you do have the audinace for it
i had an idea, why not make him in a glass tube, start out black, and then he opens his eyes, finds some people around him like scientists or something, and then they say some stuff, but its baffled because of the glass tube full of water. then they release him and they make him take a shower and then they give him the marine clothes. they introduce all of the equipment to him. he asks what year it is, they say <number here> and then he faints in shock. the scientists take him back to his lab and stuff.. ----> carry on from here

Uuuh.. you know UWE is a proper game company that will be producing retail games? I don't think many companies like that give people single-player level design assignments because they asked in a forum post.
* bump * all u need is a level change entity, and some bot support (rcbot?)
and as ive found everything else is blagable <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
