Lesser known
Anyone know any lesser known PC games that you thought were really good? Emphasis on PC games. No console crap. Consoles are stupid machines made for stupid people. So anyway, on my list:
- Earth 2150 - I only know one other person that's played this, and only a couple people I've talked to have played it. Excellent game, years ahead of its time.
- Total Annihilation - You know, despite how fantastic a game this is, the massive hype surrounding it (And the fact that it lived up to the hype), I'm completely surprised by how many people have no idea what it is. Again, this is another game that was years and years ahead of its time. Not to mention it has a very very interesting take on RTS economy systems...

Because it takes more brains then your average RTS. Instead of just throwing 10,000 units at your enemy, you HAVE to use tactics and plan accordingly. There's no such thing as a rush in E2150...
I've heard of tresspasser. Heard it had some stupid things. Like if you hit an object with your gun you drop it... beats me.
Metal Fatigue... there was another game that was like that... you'd build legs, chassis, various weapons... but it was absolutely hideous and a terrible game overall. I can't remember what it is... but I know there were two types of games like that. This is obviously the better one
16 colors at max, you would fly through space with your hover ship (which oddly enough couldn't fly), trying to leap past the obstacles through space!
Imagine life in the future like that! Every day, an aching feeling that when you got to work today, you might not return...
Pretty much... See, you used your hand to do everything. One button you thrust it out your arm, while holding it, you press another to grab an object. Basicly a primitive version of the Manipulator. But if you hit something to hard while holding an object in your arms, or your arm gets caught on something, you drop the item. It's still pretty fun, I'll post some pics.
[EDIT]They're dead and ending up landing on each other.[/EDIT]
If you're seriously looking for good and lesser known games, try any of Bullfrog's early games (some of which are better known than others). Dungeon Keeper, Syndicate, Theme Hospital (etc)... they're all good.
NetStorm didn't really get the credit it deserved. It was a multiplayer oriented RTS where the only mobile units are unarmed transports. Combat consists of positioning offensive structures so that they can fire on the enemy, positioning blocking structures in the way, setting up air attack bases within range... and this all takes place in the air between floating islands. To get the equipment into position, you'll need to build bridges out into the air, and speed is absolutely vital. You have to think extremely fast, and build extrememly fast. You get into intense "bridge wars" where both you and the enemy are trying to bridge the same spot, trying to dead-end the enemy's bridge. The most interesting feature of the game is that in multiplayer you only start off with a few basic units, and each time you sacrifice an enemy high priest (what you do to defeat an opponent) you gain a new technology which you can use from then on.
And then there's my favourite game to plug: Sacrifice. I've ranted on about it many times before...
And basically anything mentioned here.

Best. Game. EVER.
Nice to see theres other people who enjoy Skyroads...
I use to play that on my old computer all the time. I really have to load it up on this one eventually.
Elite series: Freelancer has no place here, as everyone and thier mother has played it, so play the first (and far superior) space trader game and it's sequels, if you are going to play the third (and imo the best) one, you'll probably want JJFE to go with it. Much more sophisticated than Freelancer... but also way more unforgiving... Accidentally fire just one harmless shot while near a city, and the police will blow you out of the sky.
I would link to a site that is basically a library of games like these but some people might consider it a warez site, yes, that site...
Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe - there's a topic about this one, it wasn't advertised in the US that much, but it's nice!
Else, pacman and pong, and these faded from everyone's minds since AGES.
TA was such a great game. I especially liked the fact you could build everything even if you didn't have the res since the beginning.
there are 8 different fractions, each has the same units, but they have different bonus' to them, and you can also upgrade every unit in each field a number of times.
about resourches, there are 3 different, Raw metal, Oil and Gold: these resourches are all over the map in different amounts per turn, then to mine them you build a large structure on it.
and you don't 'share' these resourches auto, your contructers have to be refilled almost once in a while, and the buildings have to be connected using special pipelines.
its very cool, i should Reinstall it.
And Metal Fatigue is coolie , however it doesnt work on XP for me, but for one of my friends it does o_O its strange.
Edit: i just remembered you have to patch MAX to play it in XP, and even then it crashes occasionally =/
Pity the servers are down :/

servers aren't down, there is one at darkskies, google for netstormhq, and it'll have the only remaining server address....
Oh, and sorry, but Earth just wasn't that much fun. It had everything a great game should have, but got all the pacing wrong.

Ive was thinking about modding HL to play SkyRoads a while back, but alas, I don't have the time these days.
As for other games, Hostile Waters: Antaneus Rising is a much fun Vehicle-FPS/RTS. SIngle player only, but its on budget now, and is rather fun.

Subspace is alive and kicking, under the name Continuum. I've got a friend who still plays it.
[edit] There was a sequel... which sucked big time... stay away from Uprising 2 ya hear me? stay AWAY! [/edit]
Plus the fact that when it came out no ones PC could run it preformance wise, but Year i remember waiting for that game to come out and then it sucking. Ive always wished that they would make a redone version with all the patches and stuff now that there are PCs that can run it.
