And dislexus, apparently since you stf will be expecting that he's gonna try a "faked fake double quad bypass reloc instead" (and for anyone who's wondering what that means, save yourself a headache and stop workin it out <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->). I'm actually wondering if XP will play it slightly safer being the grand final and all or if they have something spectacular up their sleeves.
Plus, turrets + TF to guard base? 2 Arms Lab? Are those standard strats in Aus (if they are, do they work? lol) or were you guys messing around?
Tiebreaker half was alien-alien tie, and apparently stf won overall. GGs.
turrets are used sometimes, but not likely, unless its to waste time for 'fastest time wins' matches. but a electro turret fact is very common to find. 2 arms lab yep, some clans do that for the offensive reason of getting upgrades faster =].
first match both clans won marines to make a 1-1 game, so a 2nd game was needed and both teams then won aliens for a 1-1 draw, since stf had the most points overall for the tournament, they won by default. We didnt want to use the rule 'fastest time wins' as its very much hated over here.
Why spend 30 res on short range protection when you can spend 20 on long? Skulks still can't get in, and that's 10 res you put towards another node earlier, which is all the difference in the world in a game where res flow is paramount. And yes dual arms, if you want to see just how effective early 3/3 marines are, give us a bell <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

2 arms labs are a standard thing, for STF. It hasn't really been endorsed by many clans (not to say it's not viable). And TFs with or without turrets are still common in Aus NS games, elect tf's are usually used to protect the ips/armoury etc. I think that's frowned upon in the US though (not sure why, someone wanna confirm this?).
Quite a few clans use 2 or 3 fades, sometimes 4, but recently I've noticed a decline in this strat in favour of other tactics. We're starting to see a some .. creativity over here, clans trying out strats that at first seem incredibly nubbish, then managing to fool the other team for a win (quadruple backflip fakie double take relocation anyone?). Makes for some interesting games, to be sure.
Yeah...
2 arms labs? Going 3/3 real fast isn't as good as getting JPs/HA or Phase gates...

Hmm... try the first post

Errr... an elec tfac... what a complete waste of your res... that's 45 res for the start game, which could have been lv. 1 armor, 1 node, and 10 res on meds/shotty...
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Agreed, that's why we don't do it. But that doesn't preclude other clans using it to advantage.

Really? Have you tried it? In the Champions tourney we won every match 2-0 up to the final bar one 1-1 draw. And we did it largely without JPs, without HA, and without sieging.
Which makes comments like this laughable:

I watched the first half of the match, i must say the players seemed alright on both teams but the tactics were awful... stf relocated to double res, then they turret farmed the base and somehow managed to rush the hive and kill it with 0 upgrades.... questionable skulking if you ask me. you really should rethink your tactics and then you can improve a whole lot.
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And actually it was near two hives and near double, not at double, and 2 turrets do not constitute a turret farm. We have a location like that and you wonder how we managed to take down the hives?...
Open your mind a little, you might be surprised what you find.

I'm impressed you can judge a community of clans by watching one game. No, I'm even more impressed you haven't the foresight to realise that different maps and clans call for different tactics. As noted earlier, we sometimes dual arms lab for fast marine upgrades. This game, we didn't, but we shotgunned two hives in a minute. And lo, without upgrades! What is the world coming to?
M
I'm glad you've got your mind set on one or two do or die strats. I'm glad you can judge our whole community by ONE match. I'm glad that you have no ability to think outside the small box you have put yourself in. It means when/if you play us on fair ground (unlikely) you'll witness what happens when you let the size of your e-paniz get in the way of assessing an opponent, planning ahead and preparing counters for expected strategies and relocations.
Please, come and play us with that attitude. When your JP/HA/whatever rush fails, perhaps you'll realise that NS isn't made up of 2 or 3 strats.
Who knows, perhaps your e-paniz will shrink to non-epic proportions..
.. but that's too much to hope for, isn't it?
Relying on JPs or HA to win? lol you'll see a lot of clans here (esp) hybrid that do not even consider seiging or getting HA/jps fast but instead try dominate early rez control harrass hives and use shotties/fast upgrades to finish off hives.
A lot of macho talk but I wander how you would fair against STF. It is a shame though finding a server that would accomodate the two hemispheres connections :/
Hear hear.
Honestly with 2.0's greater strategic depth, I think unpredictability is a real asset, and one that a lot of people don't understand. Just because myth has never seen it before he assumes it's awful - but then most Americans thought phases and sieges were a waste of time until about a month ago, where Euros have been using them since 2.0's release. A minor clerification though - stf made use of tfac and two turrets. I didn't say any electrification, except on a node which was used to (inneffectively) guard a phase in the final half in which I doubt either team was playing their best game.
I also think the 2 arms labs thing is pretty gimmicky - if you've got the resources to have 2 arms labs running constantly, you're clearly dominating so hard you could do just about anything and win, so.
I had a long-ish conversation with the Ozzies about fades in IRC. I contended that they can and have take down HA squads with (and sometimes without) the assistance of umbra, and the Ozzies contended that couldn't possibly be the case if the HA were decent shots. Considering earlier comments about strategic open-mindedness, I'd say they should reconsider that opinion. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
