<div class="IPBDescription">gg,</div> Now may be a good time either to:
a.) Start a revolution

This has completely killed any last reservations of Bush... not only is he a moron, but he's a god damn fool. I cannot <i>BELIEVE</i> he would do this. Not only did he say he would be stiff on illegal aliens, but he also said he would say no to affirmative action, help make sure gun rights are kept, yet all that has happened during his presidency is a total mis-mangement of the constitution.
For the uninformed:
- He's passed a law that pretty much allows affirmative action to remain, dispite the fact that it's unconstitutional (equality anyone... my as$)
- He's stood by as our gun rights are totaled (I don't care whether or not you like guns... read the 2nd amendment)
- He's allowed the campaign reform act (I don't care if you think it's a good thing that we limit cash flow to canidates... it limits when people can advirtise their canidates)
- And just recently he declares all illeagal aliens now leagal by giving them amnesty... I mean, WTH kind of bull**** is this? Not only is it a complete insult to the hard working immigrants who payed their way into this country by giving up everything they had, but they worked hard with their blood and sweat to gain citizenship. It's also a complete slap in the face to real legal aliens.
I don't know if Mr. Bush thinks his winning strategy is gonna be to alienate all of his republicains who voted for him, but at this rate I may find myself voting for Clark.
If you want articles on the web, feel free to find for yourself, if I read one more thing on any of these topics I may end up hurting myself... it's just too depressing <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Edit. Both Republicans and Democrats aren't really agreeing over the specifics of this thing... you know what that means? That he's done it right. If both people are upset that means that he's done exactly whats needed to be done.

One day, I live in hope that an American, if only one, is going to wake up on a Saturday morning and say "Hey, maybe we have a process for changing the constitution for a reason. Maybe it was put in place so that when the necessity arose we could change our constitution to fit with the times."
I know, I know - vain hope, but I'm a idealist......
I don't normally agree with Maddox or quote him, but he's right on for <a href='http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=walmart' target='_blank'>this</a>.
There simply isn't any good reason not to let others into our country, other than being scared of them or just plain racist.
Whats the point of cheap labor if they don't pay taxes?
-First, having an uncontrolled source of cheap labor into an industrialized country makes it harder for working Americans (including legal aliens), or a citizen of any industrialized nation, to find a working class job that requires little or no training.
-Illegal aliens don't pay taxes, but they get the same benefits of a tax paying citizen.
-This unlimited source of cheap labor will have a profound effect on wages in the United States. Illegal aliens typically live together 10-15 to a house and do not need to support a normal sized family. Therefore, they can work at jobs that pay almost nothing and still survive. Since they can work at such low wages, there is no reason to higher an American who won't work for below minimum wage.
-The job market cannot absorb so many new workers at once, it can't even absorb the current number of legal U.S citizens. Hence, you get unemployment.
-Too much immigration at one time destroys the social fabric of the country and puts a huge strain on natural resources.i.e. they have to build a new school in the state of california every day of the year to keep up with the illegal immigration.
Illegal immigration doesn't hurt middle and upper class Americans as much as it does working class Americans. In particular, newly legal immigrants and blacks are hurt by illegal immigration.
The Republicans want the cheap labor to make their business buddies happy, and Democrats want the immigrants because they overwhelmingly vote for them, so neither party will do anything about except perhaps some lip service as usual.
What it all boils down to is there are many economic and social reasons why illegal immigration should be opposed, and there are petty political reasons why it is being supported. <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif'><!--endemo-->

Sounds like a plan, Who is with me?
Is this the boring kind of protesting?
No, the kind with looting, and maybe starting a few fires!
Yes! In your face Ghandi!
Ok, Flippancy aside - just what has Bush agreed to? All people in the US NOW being allowed to remain? The abolition of the illegal alien as a concept within the US? Whats happening to the INS? Are parols along the US border being removed?
But just to be a devil's advocate, you know what would really suck? Combine this announcement with the fact that there are thousands of grocery store workers striking in California and other states. California as you know is the gateway to Mexico. This initiative would give Vons, Albertson's, Ralph's and all those other non-union supermarket giants in California and elsewhere the ability to say "See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya" to all those former employees that have been striking for months and hire illegal immigrants.
If I were an illegal immigrant right now thats what I would do. I would march right through those picket lines and say to the supermarket manager, "Hey you hear Bush's speech? Hire me! I will work for nearly nothing! I will take the pay that these strikers say is an unfair cut to their benefits because it is 10 times what I'd be making in my country PLUS benefits!" And the supermarket manager is going to think about his own job and say, "You're hired!" The regional managers will say to the supermarket manager, "Great job you solved the striking problem by finding workers! We are promoting you!"
3 years later... the illegal immigrants having worked at the supermarkets will have a choice of either staying or using their newfound wealth to become upper class citizens in Mexico! Everybody wins!
Oh wait what about the American middle class? Hmm... maybe they should move to Mexico. I can't believe this is happening but it really is happening! This is not a cartoon. I honestly don't know what kind of job kids today will have tomorrow because all the third world countries are taking the easy ones in America. The only ones left are stuff like rocket scientists, doctors, and engineers.
So you better be doing insanely well in school kiddies, otherwise you will be packing your bags and going off to live in Tijuana in a couple years. gg America!
"Hell no how does someone fall in a stupid well? Idiot, probley one of them soap opera guys."

- The illegal aliens now being legal through amnesty is a bunch of ****. People who left their homes and families behind to get here now realized that they didn't have to get here legaly, they could have just illegally came here and got amnesty! Woo-Hoo!
- As far as the gun-control policy goes, I think that Bush would find it hard to amend the Bill of Rights.
All I can say is that Bush has made a whole-lotta enemies, and he better hire some body gaurds and get a security system on his civilian house.
Bush seems to be all over the board, trying to win a lot of support from this minority (and here I don't mean to bind the term to ethnicity) group over this policy, and that minority group over that policy, hoping that it will all average out in the end. Unfortunately for him, it almost seems to be a wash, and the net effect is that most people are left with more displeasure than satisfaction over his policies.
It's a tricky business, that waffling.
You hit the nail on the head Monkeyboy. Bush doesn't seem to satisfy anyone.
Bush is cool. What is everyone's deal with him? Let him be. Clinton made an **** of our country, but the liberals just said "Oh, that's ok, it's just a little mistake." Yes, Bush choked on a pretzel. Let it go. Yes, he looks like a monkey. Does that justify how he presides? The guy has his Masters from an Ivy League School. I think it's safe to say that he's book smart.
No, I absolutely despise illegal immigration. In fact, I get called racist all the time by my liberal friends (which is complete crap.... I just don't think an illegal immigrant should be here). They have to right to be here, but they exploit the country. My poor father has to pay 5 figures in taxes, which accounts for about 3-4 students that go to school, even with Bush's new tax dividend. That's another thing you should be happy about with Bush; he kept you out of the poor house.
I also don't believe that Bush would pass such a bill/act/movement. I think that you're exaggerating something here, or he just said that to make the liberals happy and make them vote for him.
As for maddox, he's an idiot when it comes to this stuff. You can't force a company to pay everyone the same amount. They already have that idea imposed (<b>minimum wage</b>, which is what everyone starts out with [working in safeway, etc.]), but companies still do it, and they still will as long as illegal immigrants continue to exploit our country.
You know what makes it worse? Affirmative Action. Illegal Immigrants get even more of an edge because they're minorities, and companies seem to have this thing about having a diverse workforce, <b>even though diverse means more than the color of your skin, or country of origination.</b> They might as well hire people based on attitude. You know, a shy guy, an annoyingly loud guy... That's diverse, in my opinion. Stop discriminating based on my shyness. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Another thing is the reverse discrimination going on here. People say that because I'm white, I have the edge when getting a job. That's complete bull crap, because for one, I'm Italian by blood, and two, all companies do is hire minorities. When they say "diverse team," they mean "no white people allowed here." <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
This will only get worse, too. By 2010 or so, there will be more Spanish-speakers than English-speakers, making me useless, because I don't speak spanish, and of course by then, we'll have a liberal president who will switch the official language to Spanish. No, this shouldn't happen. America was founded English, and if you can't speak it, then that's your own problem. I as an Italian don't say "EVERYONE SHOULD SWITCH TO MY LANGUAGE BECAUSE I DON'T NEED TO LEARN ENGLISH." No, I'm more considerate and sensible than that. We shouldn't switch the language based on the population; we should keep it the way it was founded.
End of rant. More of my opinions on topics like this are on my site, if you're that hardcore.
1: Make it easier for people who legitimately want to visit this country for work to come here legally, without handing out visas. Basicly this involves "visitor worker" permits that make it easier for people to come here for legitimate reasons, reducing the incentive for people to come here illegally.
2: Make it harder for people to live here illegally without being caught and deported. I wasn't clear on exactly how this part worked, but, combined with 1, it's certainly a good idea if they can pull it off.
and 3: I forget.
Anyway, I could be wrong, since I've only done a little research on this. So, if you think it's so terrible, bring me some references as to what it actually says, and I'll switch sides. But only based on actual evidence, as opposed to gross generallizations based on what the media told you and knee-jerk Bush bashing.

Meh your argument would've been more credible if it wasn't "Liberals this liberals that" Maybe people should hold their own ideas and opinions, not what their party thinks. (As a note I'm neither a democrat or republican)
FFS who's biased now? Bush took the largest surplus in US history (Given to him by... CLINTON) and turned it into the largest deficit. Clinton may have made a fool of his presidency but at least he didn't make a fool of every tax-paying citizen, everyone with a job, everyone in this country, the constitution, himself, and his cabinet in front of the United Nations by making up lies just to finish what his daddy started.

Exactly. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Which is good for us but it still doesn't change the fact that Bush thinks it's a great idea.
(BTW: Consider the Maddox piece, specifically about the 'companies illegally hiring immigrants' to what this law would mean, then think about Bush... Hmm.... bush supplies cheap labor for his megacorp buddies...)
- They aren't paying taxes now... they will if they come clean.
- They aren't tabulated or accounted for now... they will be if they come clean.
- They do not fall under the same laws as you and I, since their citizenship lies with another country... they will be subject to these new laws, meaning they can be handled locally and deportation/federal involvement isn't required.
- They do whatever they have to to avoid deportation, which means avoiding identification... they won't any more.
It feels like a sting operation to me. You've all heard of the stories where they'll send notices to wanted criminals that they've won some money in a lottery or whatever. They just have to show up at a place at a given time with some identification. Invariably, those stupid criminals show up and they get arrested. It seems like they're trying to do the same thing here... they know they can't stop illegal aliens, and they can't possibly account for all of those that are already in, but they sure would like to. Entice them by convincing them it'll be good for them to come clean, and you'll get what you want. The only question is whether this is truly good or truly bad for the immigrants. I suppose someone who has access to the actual plan can make that call...
I don't normally agree with Maddox or quote him, but he's right on for <a href='http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=walmart' target='_blank'>this</a>.

The big deal with aliens?
- Critical, as a taxpayer, you should realize that a large portion of your taxes go to free-loafers who simply jump the boarder... yes, as absurd as it sounds, we are giving welfare benifits to illeagal aliens!
- They are used for cheap sources of labor, and nearly nothing can be done to stop it... we we end up having more people who lose their jobs, go on welfare... which in turn directly hurts every other hard-working American citzen.
- They are a direct insult to every single <b>legal</b> immigrant in America, those who waited to get in, and spent generally a decade or more getting their citizenship, and they are <u>proud of it</u>, something I know most Americans take for granted... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> To legal immigrants, this bill simply means that their struggle to live in the US was a complete and total joke. Makes me very sad...
- Next, the biggest problem I have with this bill, is that while it declares all illegal immigrants leagal (which I think is a lazy and damaging way out), it does ZIP, ZILCH, NATTA, NOTHING to stop more illegal immigrants from entering the country... perhaps a few more stipulations, but it really is jack-diddly-crap.
Lets say you and me were mexicans, wondering if we should jump the rio-grande and get twice the better life at the very least, but we were always a bit hesitent... as we did not want to be caught or arrested. It seemed like a foolish risk.
Now, we see that the Americans simply cave in to a force they cannot stop - now is the perfect time to enter. I'm sure the message is sounding out loud and clear to all peoples who wanted in America before, but were hesitent . Now it's time for a free for all, party on the USA's tab!
Come to think of it, I wonder what kind of message this sends to terrorists?
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> I heard about this on the radio a day or two ago. Interesting of course, but come on. There are already 3 Mexicos:

And to the amnesty, it is temporary amnesty, I'm not sure how all the policy issues are going to be worked out. Be sure of one of thing though, Congress will deal with many details, or water down the legislation, or it won't be passed at all.

I live in the Central Valley of California, one of the largest agricultural areas in the world and we have a large hispanic population. Now, while I would rather have them documented and legal, I wouldn't want to kick them out per se. Call me an idealistic pragmatic, but you're getting backed up with policies rather than people. Howard Dean said something that really reverberated with me, from an article from Time magazine he said, "Idealogues always sacrifice people before their supposed principles, so they never deliver for human beings what they claim their credo advises them to deliver." Regardless of any disagreements with Dean he nailed it right there.
Unfortunately Forlorn, your stance on the issue is testament to this very behavior that Dean is talking about. An epitomical archetype if you will. While many of your points are still valid Forlorn, you aren't seeing the full picture, which doesn't give you a whole lot of room to reach conclusions on the subject.
