Before Complaining About Combat Read This

now, i know a lot of you are **** off about the new combat, but please, please PLEASE give it time (a few hrs of gameplay) i mean, during the tests a LOT of people complained like you, but after a while they adapted, they learned the new system, and then they started winning.

I have played 50+ Combat games, and find Marines losing 90%+ of the time, so now can I say something? I think its pathetic myself. I wont be playing this Mod no more, there are better games around.
I mean what is the fun of spawning, and to be killed straight away? I timed a spawn in a 14 player server, and it took me 39 seconds to respawn, and other times 20+, but the 39 second respawn was a total joke to me.
I have better things to do than to play a game that gives no enjoyment, but only frustration as you are allways spawn camped.

In order for NS to have more players, a first impression should be fun. It shouldn't be being spawn camped and then being told to adapt. That doesn't make a game grow.
The ones going together, covering each other while moving forward
and
the ones humping the armory just turtling or ramboing.
The new combat mainly works like this.
Marines have to push forward in small groups covering every path BUT never should wait (camp) somewere, because aliens get res without attacking.
Aliens have to camp, make traps or sneak around to outflank BUT never should run infront of 5 marines looking at your path.

And, once this big group of marines dies, all aliens need to do is rush MS, and have one person kill the respawner.

I thought the point of Combat was so that marines could go Rambo? If this has changed then why even have combat?
Lies! I lost my first marineround in combat so the build must be really unbalanced!
As far as I know, this was never the point of combat. Why was there the shared experience to promote squadplay?
Im not going to complain about combat. If its good, great! If its bad, thats should hopefully drive some people to try out normal NS.
as for game times, I thought it was meant to shorten them..I really haven't noticed that, both marines and aliens are more cautious now, which prevents an all out focus rush (which isn't bad <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->) games still end up around 10-15 minutes if both sides are even, if not they are over with one quick push on the spawn's ...
In combat, lerks are far too powerful. There was this guy on a server I was playing on. His name was Rubber Lerk, and it was as if he was literally rubber. He would basically bounce straight up and down (as if he was rubber) and own everything while dodging all bullets. He would do it so fast you wouldn't be able to react. This is all because of the no-energy flight.
Now I'm not saying to get rid of the no-energy flight, because it is very useful in normal NS, but it is too powerful in combat because you are able to get so many upgrades that it is far too powerful.
I've gotten a score of 123/11 as a lerk on combat before. I was never able to do that in my life.
flayra, playtesters, devs: add a spawn system similar to that of DOD. dead players all respawn in after a set amount of time counts down. start at 5 seconds for 4 players, and then add 1 second to the counter for every player that joins the team (ie: 7 players = 5 seconds + 3 = 8 seconds for every wave of reinforcements).

Thanks for beta 4(and the long wait), we love mapchange patches more than we love bug fixes.

I figure it woulda eased people into the change and get a real idea of how far you will need to go to shorten game time rather than do both and have people spawn camped and bored.
At least in the previous version the multiple respawn made it a bit more fun in trying to kill a few skulks before they could kill two men.

But there is 1 good thing and that is the shorter rounds... All you need to do is to cut (again) something that simply don't fit in combat, and yeah I think I've played +50 combat rounds by now in beta4. Maybe I should try another 50, I'll swallow this soon enough.

Im gonna have to go with this guy on this one. Combat ****ing blows in its current incarnation. Don't get me wrong I like some of the things that flay did but the new respawn is absolutely rediculous. I'm all for shortening combat games but cmon, in a large server it does take damn near forever to respawn. What happens when the big group of marines die? The marines lose. No chance to regroup and try again. Honestly I've supported Flayra's decisions with ALMOST every build, and this is not one of them sadly.
I imagine the system will level out over time. Or we'll get mad alien stackage, which should be pretty amusing. My 2 cents.
With aliens, all you have to do is be around each other to get some good team work going.
For marines, you have to buy a wielder to be a good team player. Thats way too much effort for most leet CO players. The game system is fine, it's just the way people play that is making CO suck. Well, that and the lurks =P

as for the lerks, the lerks are fine, but the rubber lerk is an exploit that unfortunately wasn't spotted

Go play classic.
i understand that this is the beta version, and i'm perfectly okay with any of the occassional bugs or minor balance problems (pancake lerk anyone?), but as i've said before, this is a PUBLIC BETA, and everyone is playing it. if this was private, i'd be 100% ok with it, but flayra has a fanbase to attend to, and a crappy patch is not going to attract more players. most players that download this game expect to have fun playing it, and don't even consider the beta part. stop. using. this. excuse.
NS = perfect IMO.
