I can't believe you even said that. Do you have any idea how many words mean one thing to someone and another to someone else? I think the most obvious example is in the brits and the yanks, to the brits a *** is a tobacco cigarette, to the yanks it is a term for homosexuals. So who is wrong, wait the same word can have different meanings? God forbid it so! I mean we speak the same Laungage, so one of us has to be wrong according to you. Unless you are will to concede that definitions are an ever changing, and unique to no one.
No, a fact is something that is static, like humans generally have 5 toes on a foot, the boiling point of water, and what elements make up gold. Those are facts. Your definition of a script is something, not even widly spread enough to be in the dictionary, you picked up in an online community, <b>Slang</b> if you will. I, having also been in online communitys, have picked up the same word with a very similar meaning.
We both have the same idea about the word though it is different. I personaly believe that the core meaning would encompass binds and that in an online community it would not, and that it would also not cover binding multiple sytax to a single key. From what I can understand you believe that The core meaning does not cover binds, unless they have more then one syntax per bind. So deduction says, you do not believe that a string of preprogrammed actions in a computer game is a script. Either that or you are not willing to concede that maybe, just maybe the core definition covers bind as scripts, and the commmunity <b>slang</b> for scripts does not consier binds so which is what you currently subscribe to.
Now can you honostly sit there and tell me Definitions are fact? A static unchanging provable constant in the universe. For binds forever more shalt not be scripts sayith the lord!
I'm fine with words having multiple meanings, but I have a problem with a word having one meaning of it contradicting the other. I'm not sure whats behind the censored asterisks, but I think I can guess - Those two meanings are completely different, and have nothing to do with each other than that they are for the same word. Scripts are either multiple binds, or something different[what you're describing(if rather vaguely, since you have only said what it ISN'T)], but they can't be both at the same time... It's like saying an apple is the green fruit to me, but the yellow fruit to you.[edit: this felt unclear, so I want to direct your attention to the fact that they're both fruits- had the yellow fruit been a yellow ball it would have been OK, since the circumstances would have made the intended meaning clear] But yes, it is because of how the people we've been with used it like.

Stuff like how to pancake as a lerk took me a little while to figure out on my own, and only because I was seeing so many people do it that I spectated and tried to figure out what they were doing to get that insane speed.
Also, most newbs still don't know what bunnyhopping is. It took me until 2.0 to figure out what bhopping was and how to actually do it.
Almost nobody knows how useful a button like ALT is when you bind +moveup to it. +moveup basically makes you go full speed straight upward, so as a skulk, instead of having your finger on SPACE or something, you put your thumb on ALT and you have no problem sticking to walls and cielings and running on them. You can even look down slightly while using +moveup, making it insanely useful for sticking on the roof but still being able to get above your target and drop behind them for the quick 180-bite. With +moveup bound to a button near +jump, you don't have to use forward to press against walls. In fact, you can hold your +moveup button and look almost straight down. What will happen is that you will start sliding forward on the roof, because the force behind +moveup is basically pushing you upward, depending on the direction you are facing. For instance, if you just hold +moveup on the ground facing forward, you'll start bouncing up and down because you are trying to go straight up without anything to hold onto.
I haven't experimented with +movedown, but I bet it isn't nearly as useful. Or maybe I'm wrong. I also haven't had much time to experiment with +moveup and +movedown for lerks, but I don't think it applies to them. If it did, you could probably pancake like a pro with binds to +moveup and +movedown, and just tap them back and forth. But that's not how it works, so.. Anyway.
I just learned last week that as a skulk, you actually go slightly faster if you look 45 degrees against the ground. It makes it nearly impossible to see where you're going or if there's anything in front of you, but you can get extra speed down straight corridors if you line up, then shift your mouse downward a bit. If you go onto your own server and turn on SV_cheats 1, then turn on CL_showspeed 1 I think, it will display how many units you're travelling at. You can get around 410-420 or so by looking diagonally at the ground while you're running. I don't know if this works for all alien lifeforms or for marines, but it works for skulks.
Natural Selection has all these little-known facts and tricks to play just slightly better than average, and nobody hears about them because nobody seems to ever talk about them. Or if they do get mentioned, it's only between leet clan guys who never say anything specific about how to properly do them.
I'm sure I'll be told there are demos and asking will get you answers, but it would be a lot more fair if we didn't have to all go to the trouble of looking these things up by ourselves when someone could probably write a two page guide explaining them.</span> <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> yeah god forbid someone actually have the time and intelligence to find quirks like these. And it's not like top clans have some secret society where they share tips/secrets, I'm sure if you ask anyone in a clan they'd be happy to help/assist you if you want it. What do you want me to do if I find out that a marine can still bhop as long as he goes uphill? Make a big post on it? What about the pubbers (the majority I bet) who don't read the forums? What about the ones who read the forums but miss my post? The fact is that if you're more involved with the community you'll know more about the neat tricks and stuff you can use, same as if you watched a skilled player's demo from a clan match. If you don't like it, tough, there's nothing that can be done. Seriously, you act like top clans are so protective of whatever we know (when in reality I'm sure you could PM anyone in a clan and find out we're nice guys), and all those tricks you listed, while are useful, are definately NOT why top clans are top clans. Every game has tricks like these, it's not NS-only.

But yes, it is because of how the people we've been with used it like. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
We both have a different slang term for the word script when it comes to half life.
Thats as simple as I can put it. No big words, no big paragraphs, one simple sentence, 17 words, 19 syllables, one puncuation mark.
Oh, and we are looking at two different apples ****.
It sucks to be on the recieving end of it... So yeah, that;s my main gripe.
That's the dumbest thing you've ever done? I have to say you're smarter than most of us then <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Sure it wasn't smart, but after playing for only 2 weeks you decided you would save for hive? That's something most n00bs wouldn't do imo. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I've played since 1.0 and I'm not a vet, yet some guy who has bin playing for a week can start up a clan and get vet status
maybe call it active clanner

I dont find them annoying however as there are so many ways to beat them, what I dont like is
comm chair spamming to block vents, or OCs or to make huge bunkers lol.
I'm sure I'll be told there are demos and asking will get you answers, but it would be a lot more fair if we didn't have to all go to the trouble of looking these things up by ourselves when someone could probably write a two page guide explaining them.</span> <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
yeah god forbid someone actually have the time and intelligence to find quirks like these.
Bite knockback, should not be in
OCs only being a pain, not really a threat
grenade spam
having 6 marines phase in less than 1 second
grenade damage through walls and vents
half life lag compensation
knife ROF, should be slightly slower
people who bring up nanites
people who want hand grenades to blow up in onos

i'd agree on that..

But, I would have to say games that are over but take a half of a hour to end.
Endgame lasting 20 minutes longer than it should (see my suggestion in ideas thread)
