Awesome/coolest/most Amazing Videogame Moments!

you know those moments you have, the ones that stay with you forever? the ones that give you that tingly feeling whenever you remember them? share!

my coolest videogame moment: operation flashpoint multiplayer, i'm part of a two man sniper team, moving toward a town objective about a mile away. a few minutes into the mission, moving cautiously at about 1 mile in 12 minutes, we run into a few scouts in a small but thickly forested area. we take them down quickly from afar, but receive sporadic counterfire in our rough direction, enough to confirm that they know our position.

we hear what sounds like carpet bombing going on at our rear - the enemy's called down an aerial strike on the small (maybe 4 acre) patch of forest. we quickly split up about 100 yards from each other, making our way at a sprint towards the town.

after about 30 seconds, i hear rotors, and then see a Cobra helicopter streak past at my left, about 70 yards out, letting fly the contents of its missile pods at the woods below it. i tell my teammate to check in - he's dead. i keep sprinting, determined to finish the mission: set a demo charge at an ammo dump in the town. after a few minutes of tense running with missiles detonating in close enough vicinity to see them, i reach the edge of the forest, and see the town ahead of me.

directly over the clearing between me and my objective is the cobra, turning around for another run.

the helicopter noses around, and then i hear the chatter of machinegun fire, and ricochets to my right - the gunner has spotted me, and is trying to draw a bead!

i dive for cover behind a tree, peek back around, and then prepare to call for infantry support (the attacking force has no aerial vehicles). steady gunfire chatters in the distance, now joined by rifle fire from garrisoned buildings in the town, in my general direction.

after calling backup, i inch around the tree and level my rifle in the direction of the helicopter, just to get a look. the chopper is about 150 yards away, intermittently firing spurts into the woods around me. i zoom in close - i can see the pilot clearly!

i think quickly. if i die, i lose my potential as a distraction for a flanking movement into the town. if i can take down this chopper, we've just as good as won the town.. but instead of a rocket launcher of some sort, i brought only extra ammunition.

i make the decision.

with a deep breath, i steel myself and focus my crosshair slightly above the pilot's helmet. i fire.

quickly i try to refocus on the pilot, but can't find him. i zoom out. has he seen me? am i about to be perforated by 20mm rounds? but suddenly i scope onto the chopper: the pilot's face is a bloody mess, and the reason i can't focus well on the chopper is because it's already crashing!

the gunner ejects, and i blast him with my dragunov. the cobra soon falters, and crashes in between two buildings.

my team goes on to capture the town and complete that first objective.

excellent.

The last one I remember was on the first Stalingrad mission on Call Of Duty. The biggest bombardment ever is going off; I'm squatting in a muddy foxhole with my comrades as my 5.1 speakers shudder under the sheer decibel force. Beautiful.

    BF1942

    Lan Play!

    1) Our (comp sci department) normal way of playing BF1942 was to make the game as hard as we could for our selfs Vs Bots, and then whup em.

We would normal have about 5-8 (more then that and we would actualy fight each other) humans vs around 40 some odd bots.

Our favorite maps would be the Omaha like one (just cuss it is frikken hard), and a second oone (I am bad with names)

This map started with the offence having alot more in the ways of tank suport. There are 6 cap points (I think), a front line of 3 (generaly lost very quickly, b/c as soon as you lost one, they would just pour out of it on to the other 2), then a line of 2 (slightly further apart, one was up a hill), and then all the way back in a military base was the last one (with a small town before it).
You could also go around the edge of the map and try a rear attack.

Well, it would be 5 of us defending these bases, we would all start out just tossing as much lead in their way as we could untill we had to fall back to the 6th base (the amount of time this took often would be the guage of if we would win).

Once back to the last point things got REALY fun. We would generaly have 2+ snipers in our base just picking off any one getting to close. Some one who was good with the artiliary shelling them, and periodicly taking the other tanks fowards. And then 2 or 3 people trying to activly push them back.

One of the poeple was VERY good at getting him self dug into the houses, and I started taking my lead from him. We would stealth/charge our way into the town and then try and cause as much havoc as we could from there. IT was just unbelievably fun.

Or second thing actualy started up when only 2 people wanted to play BF1942 at the time.
    Sniper Wars.
We picked on of the small city maps (this one had the train tracks running through the middle, that would tend to nuke tanks if you went over em).

We would each pick the sniper class and take the foward spawn point for our team.
    From there, simple rules:
No vehicles (aside from getting your slef around), no other classes, no being to lame.

It started out just 1 v 1, and I preceaded to rip it up (I was a good sniper, and the other guys just sorta was sucky). They then decided to stack the teams (up to 3 v 1), I continued to own it up. Admitedly this was fun ,but not THAT great.
A few days later we decided to do it with even teams. We ended up spending about 5hrs with various 5 v 5 versions of this.

we eventualy got just hideously good at getting in/out of hidding places with out the nmys knowledge. One of my pastimes would be getinto a spot, wait till I was seen, then get out before the could tell I left. Circle around and pick up a new spot. They would all be focusing on my old spot, thinking I was getting realy good shots from there

Duh. When The Test Chamber went crazy in Half-Life!

That, and the first time I played Unreal Tournament. It was at a Cyberathelete Professional League Tournament, and I was just browsing around. Someone let me take over his computer while he ran to the bathroom. Turns out he was on a Pro Server, and I got my butt royally handed to me. I explained the "Deaths: 11110" when the guy got back, and after he got over his headache about letting a noob play, he sat down and gave me some tips. Taught me real good.

I owe many frags to that guy. Game: Planetside

Location: The lush continent of Amerish

Setting: Weary VS and NC forces wage war over a base. The same base that has been tossed back and forth for hours. Small grassy hills seperate the VS base from the NC base. Very few trees dot the land in this area.

This is from the view of Tildaras, a VS soldier who attended most of this battle.

I had just dropped into the base via the HART shuttle, and already I saw a flurry of activity. Tanks, planes, ATV's, transports, and other vehichles were rolling from the pads and infatry were pouring out of doorways and out of the base. What caught my attention was the 4 Flail artillary cannons resting under a catwalk, firing their plasma shells into the distance. I heard the chatter on Teamspeak to get moving, so I made sure I had everythign ready, and headed out. What I witnessed was the most awe-inspiring moment of any game I had ever played.

A massive wave of VS aircraft, tanks, and infantry rolling towards the NC. A massive wave of NC aircraft, tanks, and infantry rolling towards the VS. Flail beams streaking across the sky. Hundreds of people in one massive battle.

I was on a 10 day Planetside trial when this happened. After witnessing this awesome event, I bought Planetside and its expansion, and now Tildaras is a Vanu soldier for life.

    I have a few, because I'm awesome....

    #1.
Counter-Strike (beta 3 or so). I discover this weird way of turning my screen upside down so I shoot bullets out of my butt. I know I probably didn't think of it first, but since nobody had shown or told me about it, we're going to call it pioneering. Much fun was had on cs_docks, shooting bullets out of my butt, and utterly stomping the other team.

I got so good at aiming upside down that I actually preferred it over normal in the end.

    #2.
Counter-Strike (still beta 3 or so).
The map is cs_siege, I'm on the team that starts in the garage (probably terrorists). I start at the closest position to the tunnel mouth. I buy an awp.

I know what you're thinking, he owned a few guys with an AWP... big whoop. I say NO, this was not a standard case of ownage....

So I run out of the tunnel and near that little portable office on the left, I crouch and line up my sight to the CT canyon opening. It should be noted that I was reknowned for being amazingly fast at rushes, so the CT's still hadn't rounded the bend yet.

I line up my sights as mentioned before, the CT's round the bend and a large chunk are running for their perceived "right side" of the big red storage crate, this means they're running straight towards me.

I got not only 1, not 2, but 3 sets of double kills in a row with that awp. That's 6 deaths in 2 seconds with 3 shots.... I was going something like this...

    #3
Planetside (May 2003, the beta test)
Planetside had just changed that afternoon so that cloakers could be partially seen while hacking a console....

I sneak into a NC (I'm NC) base that's being taken over by TR and they're waiting for the countdown. I sneak all the way into the computer room where there are 2 of those bigass TR gatling gun maxes with their foot anchors in the ground.... They're on guard duty and aren't going anywhere. I manage to inch my way forward, all the way to the console, without them seeing me. I proceed to place my hacking thingy so close to the CC so that the beam won't be seen and start hacking.... This story wouldn't be quite so funny if it hadn't been for the next bit....
While I'm rehacking the base, one of the two guards turns around and looks RIGHT AT ME (remember, they had just made cloakers partially visible). He then turns around again and acts as if nothing happened. I can only assume that he was checking the time.... A few moments later (as in less than 4) and I've successfully rehacked the base with 21 seconds to spare. I bet that guy got yelled at by his squad leader

    #4
same setup as #3, but earlier in the beta, cloakers are always invisible during this one....
2 TR's at the CC and I'm looking for a way to get inside the room without opening the doors myself (suicide for any lone cloaker). I'm running out of ideas and nobody is coming to check the time. I go into local chat (the kind without any colors and every person in your immediate area can see) and say something to the effect of "This place is secure, why don't you go help with the siege?" One of the two responds "OK" and proceeds to leave the room while I sneak in the door he just opened

    There's so many!

I think for me one of the most emotional is when the Metroid Hatchling saves Samus by attacking Mother Brain and draining her of energy, and then uses the energy to revive Samus. The tension! The suspense! The heartbreak!

lol I was just playing cs 5 min ago.

All of the Ts bought paras and stood in a big line hoping to simply mow us down when we came around the corner.

So all of us CTs bought shields and we made a Tortoise/testudo/box formation thingy with the shields like the Roman army did. We walked right up to the Ts and then pistoled them all.

Well, there was that one time when I was playing with my friend back then. Warcraft 3, non-expansion.

We had an arranged team random matchup, and we were unlucky to have people that were 10 levels over us (OMG WTH!)

Well, you could say we weren't hit by the early hero rush that time, so we teched up the tree as fast as possible. I was UD, my friend was HU. We began massing Sorcerecess (is that even a word?!) and Necromancers. Next thing you know, bam. One of them hits me with 5 Frost Wyrms. Luckily, I already had master Necromancer training. Throw in the fact my friend got Sorcerecess, he TPed to my town, mass slowed them, and I mass crippled them. Free EXP for our heroes.

Then we proceeded to wipe them out. Needless to say, we won players that were 10 levels higher than us.

    -----

And ther'es this one time in NS where I played lerk in the beta (3.0) and managed to down 5 fresh HAs on the move towards the hive. Luckily none had a GL.

    Game Planetside :
    Action : Assaulting a base.

You may think "Oh.. Assaulting a base *yawn* I see that all the time... but this was the best one i've ever seen.. There was about 250 NC(My sovreign) assaulting a VC base.

But this was no ordinary base. We'd just slaughtered half the island. And this base was by far the easiest but the best assault. The thing is... The base had two cliff edges.. Above it.

So I get there(One of the first people there) in my huge suit(Forgot the name ) and anchor myself in. I'm the AA suit so i've got 20 or so missiles.

So I start shooting the base from this cliff top. And about 5 seconds later the whole base was exploding in red flares with a light show going on in it and the kill count rising to the hundreds in seconds.

So theres explosions everywhere. Theres plasma heading in all over the show. And there's streaks of bullets everywhere on the screen. I then take a break and lok to my right. And then my left. I thought there was about 50 of us attacking this base. I was wrong. I look right and there is tanks, the battle suits, Snipers, even level 1 people there. All releasing hell on this base. I looked right and saw about 100 people along this cliff. I look left and there is just a line of people going nearly as far as my draw distance. So about 150.

Then everyone just stopped at exactly the same time. Un-anchored. And jumped, ran and drove off this cliff and just charged into the base. We had about 20 people in the respawn room in about 20 seconds of enetering. The base was hacked. And there was about 30 people actually alive when we got in. Smouldering wrecks everywhere. And about 4 respawn points for us just outside.

They weren't going to win the base.

once on co_core I was a marine at the top of the ladder into the hive room fighting skulks (as one does). When all of a sudden a skulk leapt out at me and bit me, I jumped backwards and found myself falling down the ladder, luckily the skulk followed.
as I fell down the ladder I fired at him with my pistol. What happened next can be summarised in 6 words: he died, I gibbed, twas awesome.

NS, I don't remember which map. The marines had relocated, and the armory was close to two IPs.

Three marines were humping it, two more marines spawn in, and I Xenocide.

    Best five kills ever.

Another good one was playing Battlefield Vietnam...

I was crouched in a bush with my M-16 (M60s are for wankers). Ahead of me stood a few Vietcong. One of them had an SA-7 (A primitive Stinger (heat-seeking anti-air weapon)), one of them had an RPG (Which is instant death if you get hit with one), and the last one had an RPD. They were standing on the upside of a hill, shooting at aircraft. The guy with the RPD kept firing little bursts of death at our troops who were milling around, and the RPG guy... he must've just been there incase a tank came by.

I crawled up through the bush, as carefully as I could, and crawled right in the middle of their formation. I stood up, dropped a grenade, and ran the hell away. Two seconds later, 3 easy kills.

A little ways past them was the last VC flag - Naturally, there were a ton of VC around. Crouched in a bush, I started opening skulls with my rifle, and attracted a lot of attention. I tossed off a few greenades to keep them occupied, and they started to all spray gunfire at me. I used the voice comm: "Requesting and airstrike, do you copy!" Instantly I got a reply "Affirmative!", and as if on cue, a Phantom comes flying low overhead, from behind me. The reaction this got was hilarious. As soon as it cleared the treeline, all the VC just stopped moving and looked upwards. The Phantom dropped the napalm and completely fried them. A few seconds later, a Heuey comes over behind and drops off a handful of G.I.s, and shorty after that, a guy in a Chinook flies in and drops a tank on the base.

That had to be the most cinematic moment in a game...

I asked them later if they forgot to bring anything... so next time you call for air support, it just might come!

Planetside: This sounds ridiculously cool.. how much does it cost per month, how does it run on decent computers, and is it always like this?

    A couple from TFC...

My first cap ever and every cap in a close fought clan match. Nothing can compare, better than sex. (I might be lying... might be)

The time I got a score of 222-0 without capping once (I was dancing round the respawn celebrating and someone threw a primed mirv in... obviously I made sure someone killed me straight after and then danced around with a score of 222-2 )

Doing a triple conc jump for the first time and feeling like I'm flying, in fact doing a pre-1.5 conc for the first time was amazing too.

    Completing the original commando's game.

Completing Wizball (Oh the colours! My cat is so pretty!)

Getting impressively far in HL without saving or dying once using only crowbar and pistol (mostly crowbar ).

Oh, another TFC one, playing on CZ2 against a top clan, we won by 1 point, one of the best games I've ever had.

    Best moments:

NS: It was nothing, it was a tight game. We were sieging silo (last hive) but having fierce resistance. The siege was nearly destroying the hive, but aliens nearly destroyed it. The comm leaves his chair when we were all waiting for spawn (no res for beacon), takes the PG just in time and guns down 2 skulks munching the pg. He proceeds into the hive and unloads his lmg. A last blast from the siege blasts the hive. However, the PG was down so he couldn't go back. Apparently a lerk managed to pass into base and munch the IP's. It was down to one alien near marine start and our comm. The comm had one pack of mines he got from a fallen marine at silo. He heads for antechamber, uses his mines to make a ladder down into the pit, and starts taunting. The lerk must have been encouraged to do the fight seeing how it was a 1 on 1 so he was heading back towards silo. He spotted our comm in his hole and dived towards him. At the last second, the comm jumped. The lerk blasted himself on the mines, and our comm jumped to his doom right after, leading to our victory/loss (iirc we had both messages )

BF1942: Map is wake, I am on one of those bombers, and attacking the ship. The plane was in bad shape, and I dropped two last bombs before I knew I was going to die. I headed back towards the coast to parachute myself when the flak was hitting me hard. I tried to take altitude and headed towards that edge waypoint near the landing point. I jumped out of my plane and tried to get as near to the flag as possible. When I was just above that transport truck (japanese one) I opened my parachute a few feet above the ground, minimizing incoming bullets, and landed on the car. I shot down the occupants who were helpless right under me (don't know how I didn't die). Occupants dead, I went in the back of the truck to get a bit of a healing and went to get the flag. I waited on the mounted gun for any spawners and gunned down a couple. I finally got the flag. I later learned that the ship was also down with the two planes hitting it (thinking my bombing also helped)

I don't really have many 'fun/epic' game moments, but one i like to repeat:

    Bf1942/Desertcombat depending on my mood.

    Max bots on max settings

Me with 7 nub bots, vs 48 uber bots.
i often end up losing, but i also end up with inane amounts of kills.

    Engineer for the win

[EDIT:] one time on Road to Rome, i threw two grenades. Each one killed 5 people each.

10 kills in 10 seconds for the win

Hitting level 100 for the first time in PSO.

Cheers in arcade when beating Time Crisis 2 with one credit.

Ico, after three hours or so.

Beating master mode in Super Monkey Ball.

The airship level in Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Last to first on the final straight of the Nurburgring, Project Gotham Racing 2.

Numerous commander wins in NS, the epic 2 hour encounters of previous versions, where did they all go anyway?

    And Shenmue.

Playtesting the Zombie Panic mod last night. In this very dark sewer map. You need the torch on to see anything its so dark. I've just found one of two of my team-mates in the darkness. I shine my torch on what appears to be a zombie. But he dissapears.
Suddenly he reappears right in front of me!

I turn off my torch, and hide in the darkness. He cant find me! All I can see is his Voice Comm Icon and him talking over voice-comm "I KNOW YOU'RE HERE SOMEWHERE!"

    Twas' ace!

When I first found Arcaine's valor in d2 (I still consider it one of the best games to date) I was literally shaking all over my body, to my luck it was only 2+ necro But I traded it for 3 sojs and bought a buriza for one. I tell you, the soj economy was one of the most well-working game economies

    TFC:

    My first experience with sniper.

Red dot, whooosh.. skulls exploding... I was like... cooooool. (Me <--- a bit of FPS newbies)

Then it was my first successful mass infection as a medic.
The whole damn enemy base was in epidemic. It was just the apocalypse, everyone's dropping like flies. I was using every dirty trick in the books. Conc jump, respawn infection.
