Combat has been especially difficult to balance, because we're trying to keep the same Stats in Combat that are in regualr NS, even though the 2 are radically different. The new system will fix this.

So we have a new site involving a player ID system, and a hard to balance, experienced based game mode? Do you see what I'm getting at?
Combat is going to be a universal Action RPG of sorts. Regardless of the server you play on, you're going to accumulate experience, gain upgrades, etc, all the while balancing the game, since it will always be imbalanced (paradoxically creating balance).
Maybe its a system where ppl get prizes every month for doing stuff!! LIKE BIRFDAYS! but everwee month. like the person who played the most gets a prize and a phattey prize for the phattey who built the most phat and a best comm award for winning most gams as comm in a pub. it'll bring competitivenes to pubs and they can give prizes to clan games too! SO IT BRINGS CLAN AND PUB TOGETHER! I CRACKED IT RAWR!

the only problem with your theory jimmeh is this, theres not that many upgrades. if your upgrades carry over then after a while there will be alot of high lvl people destroying all the low lvl people, and getting nowhere because they have everything.
the only thing i can think to make that work would be the xp be reset every so often, and the xp gainage is slow enough so there wont be to many high lvl people by the time its reset, only problem with that would be that when its reset people wouldnt want to play because their person sucks now.
Based on the hints i would say there will be some external "layer" - maybe webbased - for additional ns-based gameplay. Like a webbased campaign System.
I still insist that the B.U.S. shall be renamed to B.A.S. (<i>big announced system</i>) because it actually has been <i><span style='color:orange'>announced</span></i>.

Furthermore, on the day of release, the B.A.S., formerly known as B.U.S., shall be renamed into B.R.S (<i>big released system</i>).
I'll be <i>sorely</i> disappointed if the BUS turns out to be something lame like a stats tracker or some kind of mapping feature to give more control over gameplay rules. A lot of people seem to be going in that direction with their guesses and I can only hope they're wrong. If you see my post Nemesis, would you confirm whether this is some 'external layer' or a real addition to NS itself?

I read in one of the beta discussions that they plan on actually doing it, but I guess this will not happen in the next patch.
I remember XP-Cagey once posted something about batteries that could be carried around by marines and be used to open and close doors, activate and deactivate lifts etc.
However, my first guess is that Online Ranking stuff. My second guess would be these batteries. It's somehow similar to what S2R2 said about creating elevators.
