It says you have been cocconed. Possible Gorge ability?
The BUS definitely won't be a ranking system because no one would have to adjust to it at all... the only thing it would do is log how you play normally and most servers do stuff like that anyway....setting up one big repository for a stats tracker built into the game itself to dump stats wouldn't be hard OR exciting. I really don't like the fact that the team has even mentioned the BUS. If all of a sudden the BUS was released before anyone knew about it, it would be just as surprising if not more so. Now we have everyone hyping the BUS and its really **** me off because its probably going to be a long time before anyone sees it.
BUS huh? From what I now understand it was meant to be in NS but due to lack of manpower it was left off until coding monions came into play. Now we can look at a timeline and think: HL2? It seems the news isnt ready to be revealed yet and with a "soon" we are left pending towards the HL2 release.. But I think this is highly unlikely. Too much work into NS1 to now say "Hey let's do NS2 instead!". Going back in time all I can remember Flayra ever going completely bonkers over was the flamethrower. He wanted volumetric...too much work (or impossible?) at the time but it seems he wanted it real bad. Heck the thread was littered with posts by him and design ideas and everything. But a Flamethrower is a feature..a gun..not a BUS..oh well. So what else, at a design state of NS could you want but not realize? It's a system, so it impacts gameplay for both sides. So not a feature like a gun or whatever. Either a rehaul of the game in its entirety or a a complete rework of one of the current mechanics. It wouldn't seem to me that redoing a res system is reason enough to call a BUS. (more radical things have been tried during the NS betas imho). Flayra didn't want a third race either (at least, I *NEVER* saw it mentioned). What could it be..what could it be...?
And indeed, if it's a stats tracking system I'm commiting sashimi
It's a internal combustion engine powered vehicle that gets you from point A to point B faster thru city traffic than a car can... namely because it can plow thru it
ahh, so that's it! the ns dev team is actually going to implement busses in the game, which a marine can drive around in and transport his group, or bring that heavily wounded onos to a hive for regeneration (hey, you gotta help out sometimes)...
Well, a flamethrower sounds cool in theory (it would certainly look cool) but what use could it be? You think a skulk (let alone an Onos) would stay in place while it's slowly barbecued? The only thing I can think of that a flamethrower would be effective against is structures; the only problem with that is that we already have a grenade launcher, shotgun, and a siege cannon. I can't see any extra weapons being added because theres already a gun to fit every purpose... anything else would just be redundant.
Maybe all of those "hints" were simply meant to mislead us. Maybe one of the ideas that we have brought up and then dismissed because it doesn't fit the criteria is correct.

Stats are cool however it has its drawbacks. What is going to stop 3 or for mates joining an empty server and stat whoring? Although it may be good it isnt a true indication of skill. So It may or maynot be a universal ranking system. What ever it is I want it to change ns for a long time.
/me goes search for posts by Flayra with the word system, posted more than an year ago. /me Finds (among other irrelevant posts):
-Particle System -Res Model -Flamethrower
and this: <!--QuoteBegin-Flayra+Jul 12 2003, 12:25 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Flayra @ Jul 12 2003, 12:25 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> One thing I'd really like to implement one say, is a general policing task force. Players could "call the cops" while playing, much like they can eject the commander. If a certain percentage of people "call the cops" within a certain time, an APB goes out. This could go to an IRC channel, it could send e-mail, post a news post on a central web site, update a database, etc. The important thing is that there is a group of trusted individuals who are ready to respond. They see the incoming message, then they click it to join the server. They then spectate, and watch to see what's happening. They then would have the power to kick out or reprimand a player, if they were being abusive or were apparently cheating.
This system depends on having a trusted group of dedicated "police" (with a special icon), with authorization to kick people from any server participating in the program (probably via a server side variable, mp_police 1 or something). Potential downfalls include abusive police, and the fact that people can change their behavior after the vote succeeds and they see a police person joining the server. I really like the concept of this type of organization though, where a larger able-bodied group can help a whole group of servers. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Nothing too promising, huh?
Edit: I also discovered that marine res towers cost 50 res (whoa) and that if you destroyed a built tower the res node would be unusable for the rest of the game. Of course, this was in a release candidate, pre-1.0.
Stats would suck. They only promote cheating and whoring. Take UT's and UT2k*'s stats for examples of what would happen. The top scorers were always aimbotters and people who set servers up to own bots.

I know what the BUS is, you get a commander instead of a CC, he starts in HA, if he dies you lose, and he gives you health and ammo when you hump him.
Of course, he needs something in case a bunch of humpers trap him, so he gets this cattle-prod thing, the first shot gives you a verbal reprimand and your screen flashes, the second shot kills you.

IF it's a stats system, it's NOT going to be a simple "OGM PLAREY X HAS 423 KLILS!", it's going to be something that will accomplish something, and probably scoot along NS development. My bet would be something that gives the devs a good snapshot of actual alien/marines wins and losses, weapon usage, etc.

Tell me when it's done.
-Teams on Pubs are balanced according to stats. Nice possibility, but since it doesn't affects clan games, it doesn't seem to be it.
-Stats system to help choosing teams on PUGs? Hey, it's almost clan-like.
-Buy and sell clan players on a football-like style through the internet. (yay, I'm crazy)
I'm out of ideas. What more? A Ladder system?
