    semi-psycotic, how would that be a new level of NS gameplay?
    It has something to do with stats according to the devs, AND it functions in-game.

    Yeah I'll probably do some scooting for ns development. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    coris: good point.

    Invader Scoot: scoot is a really cool verb. Like bludgeoning. I love those words. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I can't remember where (Probably in this thread, i didn't read ALL of these pages)
    But nem said the bus is going to imporve clan play, and bring clan/pub's closer together, in another post.

    there's a little something to go on methinks.

    I'm still hoping for Terrorists to be implemented and De_aztec from cs <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Ok... BUS is a dynamic game balance system... It automatically changes the damage values and health points of marines and aliens; after analysing the statistics that worldwide stats system automatically provide...

    So... "OMG nerf it", "FFS buff it" discussions will be burried deep underground...

    And... as an addition, a forum bot will be integrated to NS.org forums... Which will auto-repyl the following message to the whiner's posts...

    "The Ultimate Balance System (UBS) is online and watching you... No game could ever be more balanced... So... S.T.F.U..."

    The problem is that such a system would b0rk competative play, and Flay stated that it will bring competative play to a whole new level, so I dont think so, even if I did at first.

    I don't see how it would hinder. Since the team would be equal in strenght, then the only way to win would be with... huk... strategy !

    Having different balance each time you play could seriously throw off your tactics.

    Maybe it would change it once a month or something? So it wouldn't be completely different every time?
  • gazOzzgazOzz Work&#39;s a ... Join Date: 2003-12-25 Member: 24747Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, Constellation
    Yep... it needs billions of combinations in action, to calculate the ultimate balance... For the first correction which will include the dramatic changes, at least a month is required... then each week unnoticable adjustments will occur to fine tune it with new and old data mixed...

    So... BUS is UBS... Ultimate Balance System... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I know what the bus is!

    They replaced our onos we know and love and replaced it with.... CATBUS!

    Everytime catbus eats a marine, it lets them sit in one of the nice cushiony seats and gives them a ride!

    The way stats are implemented is that if the onos eats a marine with great stats, the marine instead of being a person sitting, becomes a bus DRIVER and can control the catbus!

    Maybe it's a stats system that is already working. It is recording stats to help balance the game. Of course, no one would be told about it, because then they would change how they play and alter the results.

    It COULD be an alien version of the commander.
    It could ALSO be a true "fog-of-war", where anything outside the view of a marine or obs or scan is darkened a lot, and no sounds are heard from darkened areas.

    But it COULD of course be something silly like skulks +using gorges and giving them wallwalk for 10 seconds...
  • MEShootHereMEShootHere Join Date: 2002-11-05 Member: 6975Members
    This auto-balance thing sounds plausible.
    It could be a system that can be toggled on and off for clan matches but left on for pub plays, making the "weaker" players have a better shot. Altho the balancing of the feature itself to avoid abuse...OMG! Teh pain!

    omg yes!!!!

    I dont think its an automatic balance system since Flay also stated that one of the reason it isnt revealed is because other mods/games could copy it, and no other mods really needs to be balanced in the way NS needs to be.
  • wallerwaller Join Date: 2004-04-28 Member: 28281Members
    Can't they just copywrite the idea? I'm not really up-to-scratch on that type of thingeh.

    I already know bus is going to ruin ns gameplay more than it already has been by combat :/

    And once its out, you cant go back cause you would have half the ns players saying omg its great and the others saying omg it sucks :/

    Best to leave mods the way they are when you first make them, then just tweek the annoyances/annoying bugs. Then everyone is happy

    Ohh great.

    So we get the great variety of 1.xx gameplay without onoses getting stuck on every corner right?

    cool

    No, but everyone who hasn't left in boredom yet are happy. Meaning you get 10 happy players instead of 50000 satisfied players and 20000 unhappy players.

    Reading this topic made me think, the BUS may invlude some kinda of new learning curve, may to tricky to change to meaning, it's more even for a while, untill all the vets learn the curve.....
  • bassportbassport Join Date: 2004-01-24 Member: 25656Members, Constellation
    Nooo... the BUS simply is dropping the NS classic mode.

    Hard to adapt to? Yes. Better selling for retail? Yes.

    I hope I'm wrong. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    You are totally wrong. NS is nothing without classic mode.
