I bought CZ this afternoon (yeah, yeah - sue me), and included in the box is a HL2 promo CD, featuring a bunch of movies I'd not seen (though you lot probably saw them all - I just couldn't be bothered downloading them over 56k), and I have to say that the graphics do a fantastic job. Sure, they're not mind-blowing, but they do make it feel like you're very much part of the game world - that's all they have to do.

Doom 3 didn't take much advantage of physics. I mean sure ragdolls but I was hoping for boxes flying everywhere during combat and you have to litterally sprint into a desk with a laptop ontop just to MOVE THE LAPTOP..
The understated artistic beauty of Half-Life 2 is invisible to me. I want realism, and that generally means power. I didn't think Doom 3 was too shiny, except for a few of the weapon models the environments look just right. I mean, isn't brushed metal supposed to be shiny? And they did a really good job making the hell-creep look wet and sticky.

Rather than being drawn into a pointless arguement of opinions, I'll reiterate two simple truths:
Doom 3 rocks.
Half-Life 2 will rock.
And for different reasons too. That is all.
