I was able to play the CS:S beta for about 45 minutes without it crashing.
It was pretty horriblie. I was a terrorist, but the AK seems to have got infinitley(spelling?) less accurate then it was in 1.6, so I was doing nothing but running, crouching, shooting with the accuracy of a 6 year old kid on LSD that was going through an epileptic seizure (because my hand was also cold and thus jittery, damn A/C), and dieing. Not as much fun as CZ, where I don't die nearly as often and can kill stuff, but I started up a LAN server and started messing with physics, which was pretty fun.
Oh, and I shot at the wall and dreamed of a movie with those same particle effects. The materials system is pretty cool.
The flash effect is sort of interesting, but also sort of annyoing as far as they blind you for freakin' ever.
I don't know what you guys were playing, but I saw a healthy amount of bumpmapping - The tiles in the center room are bumpmapped, and it looks extra secksy when the reflecty glare near doorways gets on them, and the underpass is a good place to observe bump-mapping when you enable the flashlight.
But it also looks like there's a bug. If you look at the wall and slanted sand/ground with the flashlight, all looks fine, but if you shine it at an angle on the tile/path thing, it looks like it's bump map is the same as the sand one, which looks weird.
The ragdolls that result from a grenade are also weird. I would expect that if a frag grenade went off a few inches directly right of my right foot, I'd do some nifty spinning and look like a flying star of dead human. But nigh, for the ragdolls did no spinng, the best I got was him landing on his head.
The kill command ragdolls looked much better than the explosion ragdolls.
The frag grenade explosions looked like pure secks when I threw them at the sky.

Oh well.. I found something which does the job fairly well on its own, without restarting the map..

I should get paid to beta test.
