<div class="IPBDescription">Threadness! Share your impressions</div> Basically, because I didn't want to load the other thread about preload of HL2, I thought we could talk about our impressions of CS:Source right here.
My first impression, before the game even started, was a bit mixed. The game launched, but the background was a black and purplish pink. I really didn't understand, and then tried the video stress test. It didn't work.
Then, I exited out and saw: I could run CS:S WITHOUT it being fully updated, being it was at 87% in Monitor. So while I get to look at the beautiful background, I didn't like the fact that it didn't let me know its full ready.
After that, I really liked the interface- many things are VERY well done, and overall, it all just feels very smooth, though, I'd like some help texts on a lot of things, being I don't know what they are, or what part they mainly affect.
As to gameplay: Game is still finishing up loading(94%), but here's to hoping.

As for the game itself, its pretty nice. I get 50-150 FPS, depending on effects. Water/glass really causes slowdown however. The stress test reported an average of 58.4 FPS (meh its not bad).
I noticed that max ammo is controlled by cvars <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Hence the 500+ ammo for the deagle in my screenies.
And said screenies:

There are some problems though. First of all, the physics are odd. You bounce off of stuff. I walk into a cinder block and bounce back 3 feet. And there's STILL no bob on the rifle scopes. You can still jump-snipe as well.
cl_pushbackforce or something like that. I always thought it simulated kicking or something.
It's the same Hacker-Strike we've grown to love or hate.

You sure everything is enabled for you? Bump mapping is very nice on mine.
And just because I gotta ask: Does anyone have a server we could play on, that isn't constantly full? I can't find any D:
Though I was wondering what kind of effect they're using on the main hall floors? The one with the shiny tiles.

Thats bump mapping, regular, I believe. I could be wrong though.
I must ask- how do you enable the console? Do we have to go back to the old way of putting -console in the comm line?

Are there any pics of bump mapped textures? My cousin is running the game with:
2.3 ghz XP athlon
1.5 gig ram
NV 5200FX (this is DX9 capable)
That's the machine I watched it on.
"C:\whereveryouputCS:Source\.h2exe" -steam -game cstrike -console
It should work...
I don't think a pic of the bumpmapping would justify how it looks, it just makes more sense in real time.
After my first working game, I get the exact same thing.
AND I can't run my own server.
I'm not sure what's required to enable DX9 effects, but that may be the issue people are running into if graphics don't look quite up to snuff.
You aren't going to see full beauty (in HL2 or CS:S, if enabled in the latter) with less than a GeForce 6XXX or ATi 9500. Same thing with Doom3, actually. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Im off to bed its nearly 5am!
-dxlevel 80
It made my shadows work, for some odd reason, and all the other effect still work fine.
The bolt is configured for a lefty.
the reason for this error is due to forced refresh rates
if it doen't work cwag i've found a few more methods.
BadKarma: Maybe they still go with the modeling them as if it was held with the left hand, then a command is used to switch back to right.
Ah.
Hope HL2 doesn't have this many problems...
More like gg beta.
I myself am a bit dissappointed in the amount of lag that there is.
I've managed to get past all of my renderer troubles.
And frankly, I wish VALVe wouldn't make our choice on if we GeForce FX users want to use the DX 9 stuff or not. Its OUR choice to run at 3 fps if we want to- give it to us.
I can't connect to a remote server - It just exits out to the desktop when everything's done loading and it's ready to go in-game. :X
However, I could start a LAN, and while it's prettier than HL, I think it's obvious why it's still a beta.
Is it just me, or do all physics things freeze for a second after you shoot them?
Anywho, even though anybody else on a server can't see it unless they have it themselves, here's a tutorial on spray making <a href='http://www.raiden.se/spraytut/' target='_blank'>http://www.raiden.se/spraytut/</a>
<img src='http://img28.exs.cx/img28/1137/jbspray.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
One of my favorite sprays I've seen someone else make, I've also noticed in his preview pic I just deagled a poor fellow <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I managed to join the 36th server I tried, and the lag was pretty horrible. Probably due to the massive load on steam. Also, the scoreboard doesn't work with high player numbers...
And yeah, its still blocky and the textures aren't that great, but then again this is CS. If NS ever goes source, both those things can be fixed easily (compare current NS and CS maps for example. NS maps > CS maps by a LONG shot).
Edit: Typos
