When Will Ns Die

<div class="IPBDescription">:o</div> just a thought....won't ns like all other games lose a lot of players and become one of those "I have it on my computer but i don't play it anymore" kind of games on day?

Sure it will. I mean how many of you have Duke Nukem 3D installed? I mean I do, but there are probably only 5 more people here who still have it. :P

really doubt it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->, the only way it would be close to dying is if they made ns2 and most people stopped playin original ns <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well the downfall of others games, say Day of Defeat, is because they did not listen to the existing community but did what would be better for the mod to gain more people. In DoD's case, they screwed over the community to gain a wider game base. I'll give it to them that yes, the community is larger than ever and more and more people are playing it, but most people hate it and the devs don't listen to the players anymore.

So just as long as the devs listen to us, the community, it should stay alive and kicking for quite some time.

that's why i love Hostile Intent.. the devs LISTEN. like, they REALLY listen. hell they reply to almost every thread in Ideas & Suggestions.

by the way, stop making topics. you have to share space.

NS is already dead, it hit its peak in mid 2.0. The is next to no clan scene at all, which usually defines the popularity of a mod. (10,000+ cs clans cant go wrong)

My immediate reaction was about to be "of course it will, everything does. What's your point?", but that's not necessarily the case. It's more likely that Unknown Worlds' next incarnation of NS will put this one to rest (apologies for any misinformation I may be spreading, but I seem to recall reading that UW's future projects would be along similar lines as NS, and in the same genre if not setting).

For me it is dying. Haven't played one good game of classic NS for about a month now. I'm starting to lean more to combat now because it's all on you sort of.

CS clans are rediculous for the most part. I have been in 3 CS clans over the year or so I played it before I discovered DoD, and I can honestly say I was never anywhere near as good at that game than I am NS, which I have never clanned in at all. CS clans consisting entirely of newbs sprout up every day, not only that but it is entirely possible to run a CS clan without a clan server. NS clans in comparison are more like teams than collections of skilled players, there is an infinate amount of strategy and gamesmanship required on the most basic level to simply contend with your opponent, and that is before you calculate player skill. Take 10 average CS pubbers and let them train individually hard core for 6 months and most of them will beat your average CS clan. I don't care what 10 players you take in NS, unless they train together they won't be beating pretty much any NS clans.

I stopped playing NS after 2.0 was released. I played it for maybe 10-20 hours if you add it all togheter and didn't pick it up again until 3.0(edit: I did try some of the different 2.0x versions).
  • torquetorque Join Date: 2003-08-20 Member: 20035Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
    I stopped playing for a little while somewhere in 2.0, I think - then I picked it up again, became active in #ns and (somewhat) in the forums... and now I think I'm losing my enthusiasm again. ^^;

I've found that I play NS mostly for the social atmosphere, particularly with my friends in LM - I have absolutely no interest in playing any other public server. I don't know if it's just the lack of new maps and real content or what, but NS itself as a game just doesn't draw me in anymore.

Though - perhaps with the next update, maybe there'll be enough changes to get me interested again... I guess it's either that, or I'll just continue to play NS solely on LM until if and when NS2 comes out. ^^

    Counter-strike doesn't suck.

If you know local people, start up a competitive clan and enter cal-o. From there start working on strategies and start practicing in one of the scrim channels. Trust me, it is so much fun to go to events such as fragapalooza and watch the best clans go at it. Much more, the better coordinated your clan the more sucess you'll gain, and moreover the money.

I've had friends in cal-i, and cal-premier...Myself, I've been in cal-i: clan synergy, and when you come together to form a team it's absolutely amazing to see how much you can actually learn from each other in such a game like this. There are so many little nitpicks most people who have been playing for a year or so don't even know about such as for e.g. stacking on certain areas of maps, or throwing the flashbang in long A through the dust double doors, then watching it fly across the whole map.

Sadly, life seemed more important yet it was fun meeting cal-p clans such as EG and playing with the best, or watching cs videos with your buddies of shaguar, kim, or clan SK pwning it up. Yes, they were good times.

As long as development on NS continues it wont die. But the only way to go for NS1 to evolve further would be a HL2 port.. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Actually its sorta died with me already unless I go to regular servers and play with fellow vets there are all these new pshycos who think they're better than you, yet they accomplish nothing. In a game the other night we were marines and right before we lost I pull off an onos knifing, next thing I know next round I have the first kill on aliens, was onos 5 min in and the noob is bashing me and my constie icon just because I wouldnt take his orders as a skulk, we already had 2 gorges and I only had 40 res as a skulk, and build a hive. My word what an elite group of morons this generation, myself and other quasi-normal people excluded, is turning out to be. Other than that though NS will die eventually unless it goes source cause the problem is as HL2 and that comes everyone will run to that and its mods so unless is ported or an NS2 comes out I think its fate is on the horizon, I hope I'm wrong but I'd say in a year or 2 it'll be a lot less popular.
