I've pretty much quit NS. I havn't played in over two months, and I really have no interest. I tried playing once, I started it up, and went to look for a server, and couldn't find any I wanted to play on, so I /quit.
I'm eagerly awaiting CS:S public release, I've been beta testing for a bit, and I think I'm going to go back into comepetive CS again. It's such a great game, esp. now that the flashbangs actually work, along with smoke. CS:S made me realize my love for CS once again.

NS won't die for several reasons:
The Community always has its backlots. And I'm serious- it was at least 6 months time between 1.0 and 1.1/2.0. Thats a LONG LONG time.
Were just going through the same thing now. All it is, is a want to complete, and make it *perfect*. I'd suggest more than anything that idiots stop complaining.
NS was basically a portfolio for Flayra to show off his skills, now that its served its purpose with UW, he really has no interest in it and I can't blame him. Its quite defunct as a half-life 1 mod. Maybe source can change that but I doubt it. When I lost internet access in june for a month I missed NS really badly but when I came back I didnt really find interest in it, oh well, such is life.
I havn't played NS in several months, I still help out with NS related things though. I may go back to it, probably not this late in the game. HL2 is on the horizon and all the mods for that will take my gaming time.

Only thing I don't agree with is that it died in 2.0, I think the "fun factor" was gone after 1.04 era was over. After that it was clans just trying out new builds until they saw it wasn't really going anywhere.

Meh. Flayra is still working on NS, but it's not like he can devote his life to a game based on the quake 1 engine (really..) that doesn't make him any money, besides constellation. I think it's good that he made UWE and is developing games.

Anyway, i'm still suprised that a lot of people play starcraft, which i quit 4 years ago, and diablo 2, which i quit after the release of the 1.10 patch.
NS will die within 8 months of the release of HL2, just like all HL1 mods will die within that time frame. People will be too busy playing new mods, at least one of which will take the classic gameplay of NS to a whole new level (Insect Infestation). CS: Source will bring some anti-CS people back into the fold, at least for a few months, and after that they will start dividing up into the slew of new mods that will be released within 6 months of HL2's release. If NS ports over to Source, people will continue to play; if it doesn't port over, the community will starve to death from lack of players and a subsequent lack of updates. You'll have people who start up a server just for the hell of it, but that'll be it. I won't be playing NS (I don't even play classic anymore as is) after the release of HL2. At least, not as soon as the mods start getting released.
Most of the Half Life community is the Counter Strike community. If most of the CS community becomes the CS: Source community (which will happen) then most of that community is going to have little/no interest in playing a HL1 modification anymore. Clan scene or not, NS is still fun to play. If you really want to compare NS to CS, well then compare the pub scene as well. Every other CS server has a hacker of some kind, but I haven't seen a NS hacker for months.

yes NS was once good, but as with fruit it goes sour and is no longer edible, ns is no longer playable, i shant state the reasons because its quite obvious to the experiencd gamers out there, if the next patch corrects this, then great, if it doesnt, then NS should be buried with games like CS and TFC .
