Perhaps "a matter of seconds" is biased by my natural inclination as a programmer, but it still doesn't take long if one uses this obscure thing called "intelligence". They might be a way of compressing binds that don't need to be executed quickly or whatnot, but no one ever <i>needs</i> them, so Mr Random NSPlayer isn't missing out on anything if he never bothers learning this level of scripting, if he bothers learning scripting at all.

My apologies if you were being sarcastic, but these days, one can never be sure.
That may be, but the problem is that you have to go outside the game to utilise scripts, and that indicates there is a problem.
Scripts may or may not give an advantage, I myself an of the mind that they give no significant advantage at all, and that they infact give a <i>disadvantage</i> whilst making actions more convenient to the player.
It's the fact that you have to go outside the game to use them that makes people suspicious. I will use my previous argument that some people are likening scripting to writing client-hooks, and are misinterpreting the difference between the ability to write scripts which ARE HARD CODED INTO THE HL ENGINE and writing a 3rd party program to hook the engine.
Nothing in the official manual even indicates that scripting exists. In UT2k4 there's nothing in the manual that indicates that wall-jumping and such special manouvers exist, yet they are <i>still considered a mainstay of competetive play</i>.
I Continue to Fail to see why people are complaining about this issue. Every argument against scripting thus far has been bettered.
Nadagast, I wrote one too. It rebinds 9 different keys when you hold one key down, and theres 4 metabind scripts that encompass every single co upgrade for both aliens and marines, here it is:

If you find it incredibly annoying, then I share your pain.
And SpaceJesus: The longest part of writing that script would be actually typing it up. Writing it per se - that is, creating it - can't have been at all challenging, seeing as it simply isn't particularly complex. And I'm sure a scripting newbie would pick up on the underlying mechanism fairly quickly.
Also, as I believe I've said before, I support any official scripting aid. Despite what anti-scripters might think, we scripters take joy in spreading our work, and helping those who ask for it on this subject. As a matter of fact, I'll do something I didn't think I would ever do without provocation, and post my lastinv script in this thread at what is, for us residents of Sydney, tomorrow afternoon.
True, but scripting remains probably the hardest thing to learn about NS, alongside bunnyhopping and strafe-jumping (still haven't worked that one out).

Pretty much.

^^ roflmfao
this is the only game i know of where instead of people practicing and investing time into a game to become better, they **** until the people who are better are brought down to their level. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The argument has been by the pro-scripters that scripts don't give any obvious advantage. So how is removing them bringing "people who are better down to" a lower level? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It's not bringing us to a lower level, it is making us play with settings we aren't comfortable with. God, the arguement of the anti-scripters is just so retarded that I can't help but pull all of the hair out of my head.
LOFFLES SCRIPTING NEWB GET SOME SKILL AND STOP USING MOUSE1 TO ATTACK AND TYPE +ATTACK IN THE CONSOLE.
The anti-scripting community resembles stupid fanatical church people who can't think for themselves.
If you can't make your point without of declaring your argumentative opponent a disgrace of humanity, don't make it.
