I do have to say I agree with a lot of the people here. Had HL2 been released a year ago, the graphics would have taken away from the game. Now that the game is coming out when many people have upgraded their systems, I think it's a bigger win for everyone.
Not to mention a lot more mod teams are up and running for Half Life 2 now. The modding community has grown in the past year, and a lot of teams have been working on material in preparation for Source.
It's going to be a great upcoming year. Most definitely.

Oh, you've got to be kidding me. Here I was hoping they would put it out in late November when the rush of new games dies down, those of us that work retail will still be amidst a rush of about 10 huge games that are all coming out in early November.

I'm looking forward to Bloodlines just as much any other game that's come out this year. If Troika pulls it off, it could end up as an instant classic on par with Deus Ex.

I wonder what all mods will be the forerunners for HL2. They might start out not being complex but who knows, there might be some really good concepts.
Wow, that seperated laughter really sends a shiver up my spine.

Upcoming PC games we know of:
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth Brothers in Arms Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault Men Of Valor: Vietnam Commandos: Strike Force Star Wars Galaxies: Jump To Lightspeed Knights of the Old Republic 2 (PC/Xbox) World of Warcraft
That's off the top of my head, by the way. There's a few other titles that are slipping my mind at the moment. Grr...
But hasn't Quake only just been announced? As in not due for a long long time?
That's like me saying PSO Universe is on my upcoming console list.
World of Warcraft is fair enough.
I'll just never understand the attraction of yet another gritty FPS.

I'm only presenting the cream of the proverbial crop. If I listed every upcoming fun but not spectacular PC game, such as Men of Valor, the list would be a lot longer. Funnily enough, if I applied the same selection method to the upcoming GC, Xbox, PS2 and DS line-up, it too would only boil down to 2 or 3 games, so where your arguement is going I just don't know.
Then again, I want you to get a DS, so no qualms there.
Edit: And HL2 is a little bit more than a "gritty FPS".
As you should know by now Teq, any PC gaming arguments I post always descend into drunken anti-FPS vitriol.
I meant junk like Medal of Honour and that Counterstrike thing, I mean even I'd like to play Half Life 2 and I hated the first one. That's the power of hype!

Just compare maps made with the half life engine originally -- say crossfire or subtransit -- with maps being made now. Say, just about any of the official NS maps. Or some of the work being done by the nightwatch team. It's hard to believe that they're built on the same engine. Now look at the screenshots of HL2 maps, and imagine what will be achieved by mappers once they get their hands on it and start tinkering...
I must be the only kid looking forward to HL2's singleplayer. HL's story interested me more than Halo's. Although that may have been because I was severely ticked off with MC during most of the game. Seriously man, kill that Foe Hammer **** and jack the Pelican! The Pelican is so awesome, the Covvies would look at it and instantly die. And Halo would turn into a giant donut. And the Flood would be frosting.
