I just took the theoretical exam today (passed) and started taking driving class (2/20 hours finished); when those are done (~month) I'll (hopefully) get a temporary license for 3 months and then I'll be allowed to do my actual exam. I'l be putting my insurance on someone else as it'd be ridiculously high if I put it on myself (4 times the price).
On to the car <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />: it's a bright blue Nissan Micra K11 (third-hand, it was my grandfather's, but he passed away a year ago) with "Jive" on both sides (small, 5-10 inches) in bright orange <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />. The car's still in a good state, haven't checked the mileage as it's at my uncle's place, but it should be pretty low. The only thing that <i>should</i> need changing would be the battery <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />.
I know it's a small car, and there's nothing special about it, but I can't wait ^^
NB: I'm not sure if I should have even posted this the topic is 'show off your ride' :/ Either way, I googled and found a decent pic if you don't know the model: <a href="http://www.nissan-alliance.net/pics/autos/christian_k11/christian1.jpg" target="_blank">clicky</a> I may take pictures later.
Nice! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> And hello from Waterloo Belgium btw, comrade!
Those are really good cars for the city etc, but be careful with that on highways! Especially if it is your first car and like to go to the "Café d'Anvers" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> As much as thoses japanese motors are absolutely the best, the body of the car is very fragile. If you tip that over at high speed, it'd be like a ball and won't stop to roll until you hit something. Keep that in mind. It's a very good "first car", but just be careful, please. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Pocket bikes are NOT street legal in CA. If an officer sees you riding them on the street or sidewalk (or anywhere other than private property for that matter) you can be arrested and have your 'bike' impounded.
Good on them, hope more go that way (arrested/impounded). Annoying little things, I've almost hit five morons this year who were riding them in the bike lane, or across an intersection where I was trying to make a right. FAR too low to be really visible to cars.
edit- Oh, and since I forgot to mention it in lieu of my mini-rant above, the Eclipse is almost back together. Road Race should have the new head ready to go by Monday, and swapped onto the car sometime next week. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Hopefully it'll stop misfiring as much, and be less of a headache.
We should all get our cars together ( at least the people who are into car sports) and hit up El Toro Air Base or some kind of grip/drift event. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

And where is Angel's Crest at? I'm next to Costa Mesa, is it an interesting road?
I have fresh new tires now and I'm ready for some runs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> My two back tires had about 10% tread left haha and the back-right had a flat spot from when I slammed the brakes hardcore behind a friend. =x
Umm..if anybody is in Cali and don't mind driving to South Gate or paying 30-50 bucks for shipping. I can help you get some Federal 595 tires for cheap. =)
That is a nice bike, but I'd still put just about any Talon, or Supra running around here up against it, it is always fun to see the bikes get beat. :-)
Sunfire is still fairly stock, just upgrated throttle body recently and added newer cam gears with slightly larger injectors + fuel pump and rails. I'm thinking after I actually forge the internals I may go with a turbo, but I am not sure.

furnace562: Yep. I'm the one tailgating the sportbikes after Big Tujunga, when the road turns crappy and their two contact patches can't match my four. One more reason I don't stop at the diner partway up. Usually have my fun in the evening though... too many soccer moms and wannabe adventurer SUV retards clogging up the road during the day.
Also, the GSX is back. It starts and runs smoothly, which is a shock... get used to misfires after a while I guess. Just letting the new headgasket bed in properly before I start to really romp on it, and giving it a chance to leak or break if it's going to, before I head back up to the mountains. Also need to replace the brakes soon, as these ones are pretty much toast. And install the new boost gauge. And hook up the MBC again and see what I can bump up to on 9:1 pistons with a stock fuel map, instead of the 7.2:1 OEMs without knocking myself stupid.
Zig: Yeah, they built the engine. And screwed up on the head. Three months wait time after finally convincing them that something was wrong, and a week to swap it when I was told a day. :b Going to be going through, over and under it with a fine tooth comb this week to make sure nothing else is screwed.
Still have to find a shop that'd be willing to socket my ECU for me... really want to get DSMLink in, instead of sitting uselessly on my shelf. :b

RRE has a great name, which is why I dropped seven grand on an engine from them. I was told three weeks. It took over three months, and even then it was pulling teeth. Their main and tuning department is good. Their engine building department does not share that quality level, from what I saw. Robert's a good guy, and he finally seems to have made things right, but only time will tell.
This isn't an Evo. This is a 1Ga Eclipse. Stock boost is 12psi (with the BCS in the loop), but you can crank it to 16 with no ill effects on stock internals due to the extremely low compression pistons, even with the aggressive stock timing map, due to the extremely conservative stock fuel map. I have a logger cable, and just have to log knock. Too many counts and turn down the boost a little bit. I'm also currently running at wastegate spring pressure (no BCS) which is 10psi. One more reason I'm eager to get DSMLink and my AEM UEGO installed ASAP. No need to pay someone else to tune the car, just can roll-tune it for rough and rent an hour on a dyno to do the fine tune... it's actually quite easy, and doesn't require throwing money at the problem.
Have a personal problem with just buying a flashed chip to tune... then you're just running off someone else's archetype for what your car should be doing, instead of tuning your car for your setup. Never going to get maximum gains running someone else's tune on your car.

Yeah it's a different beast.. Didn't know you were logging yourself, thought you were just gonna start boosting and just make do until later on, lol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
"stage 1" evo 9s are so similar that an initial flash is just the cheapest and fastest way to do it at that point. Once I go for camshafts then I have to go get tuned.

Evos are like Macs. You pay too much, and everybody has the same parts so most things are blindly interchangeable. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> DSMers hang onto the money for individual upgrades. Same engine, though our trannies and suspension (especially on the 1Ga) are total crap by comparison. Evos just start off with larger injectors and more boost.
Yeah, have to get the aftermarket boost gauge hooked up, so I can get an actual pressure read, instead of the ECU estimated in-dash number. Then hook up the MBC and log everything so I won't run the risk of blowing anything away. I'm already surprised by how much more power it feels to make with the higher compression pistons, though I'm somewhat regretting not jumping on the 2.3L stroker option at the time, as I was stupid and didn't realize how much the extra torque makes a difference with the stupidly lossy AWD-DSM transmission.
Sad part is, I have all the big-power parts I really want (no need for cams yet, 1G are good enough and 264/272 lose too much under the curve) but I'm lacking most of the stuff I need to get them onto the car. 850cc squirters need DSMLink. DSMLink needs a socketed ECU. MAF-T/GM MAS needs a different UICP, and may as well get a FMIC if I'm replacing the piping to begin with. Can get it flanged for the GReddy RS or SSQV on the shelf at the same time. :b Just have to get a better/steadier job at this point, to keep the car fed. :b

High price, brand name, prevailing elitist attitude, identical hardware, usually seen with a Starbucks cup nearby... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> Sure did. Get tired of the Evo kids who show up at car meets and look down their nose at DSMs that can slap them silly in the straight line or twisties, just because they shelled out an extra $20,000.
Damn right, atmo venting sounds pretty good (when done right) and evacuates the blocked charge faster than recirculating it on throttle closure, preserving the turbo and helping to extend its lifespan, especially under hard driving conditions.
No reason for me to go with 264/272, lose too much under the curve compared to 1G cams and don't see significant gains until the 8Krpm mark. All you get is a lumpier idle and the car sounds a little meaner. Which is a retarded way to blow $600. Holy crap, $5K for a turbo upgrade?! Goddamn you Evo guys get taken left right and sideways. Given that you can get just about any turbo you'd want, plus piping for a DSM for about two grand at the top end (and most upgrades are around $500 for a simple E3-16G, and under a grand for a TD06H 20G). Then again, if you have money to throw at a brand name, must have money to toss at parts and maintenence.
And where is Angel's Crest at? I'm next to Costa Mesa, is it an interesting road?

What kind of deal? I need a new set, as these Riken Raptor ZRs are getting a weird wear pattern, almost bald about an inch in from the edge, but a good bit of the shoulderblocks and the center tread are still there. Looking for 225/45/17, but 215s will do. Found them online for <a href="http://www.customwheelsdirect.com/tires_brand/Federal.php" target="_blank">$72/tire</a>, but I don't know if that includes shipping, much less mounting and balancing. Assuming these are the V-rated ones? Haven't heard of Federal before, but I'm willing to give them a shot.
Rarely get any signals from the bikes when you're in a four-wheeler, and even then some guys will be jerks and give a thumb when there's a cycle officer ahead, instead of a helmet pat. Doesn't matter much given that the speed limit is 55 after the Big Tujunga turnoff, and with the state of the road few of the bikes are willing to hit that on anything but the straights. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Kinda annoying that they aren't planning to have the couple of damaged miles repaired until 2009 at the earliest. Used to be a great way to get around traffic on the 210 if you were headed to/back from Pomona, and a much more fun cruise than the freeway. :b

I still want your car, dammit. Did you manage to sell it off before you left, or is it sitting in a garage somewhere, mouldering away, alone and unloved? Would be great to get a DD that can still handle, and have fun in the canyons. Though I'd probably pass a cinderblock the first time I oversteered, even if it ended safely. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

no i didnt manage to sell it. slowly aging and dying in my garage. engine killed a cylinder on my last days of driving it. i guess the past 20 years of abuse and poor maintanance caught up with it. my dad spends his free time working on it but its basicly under a cover and on jack stands waiting for my military contract to end so i can come home and bring it back to life <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
and after a year and a half of driving that car i would still ###### bricks every single time i felt the slightest amount of slip in the back of that car. its just one of those cars that once the back starts going its ###### gone.
240sx drivers call that the "INITIAL DRIFT" (rofl).
I just got back from my tire shop with new tie rods and tension rods installed and a new camber setting.
Holy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> do I grip like a mofo. I miss the loose/drift feeling, but I'll ride with this for a bit. =)
New one <img src="http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e23/tonee4130/DSC00283.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Current has a SOHC Vtec 1.6
Will be putting my Twin Cam 1616 in it pretty soon
Few spots of rust most of it looks like surface <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Bonnet has a hole in it, gonna replace with either a carbon one or another one for now

Don't seem to understand the severe oversteer problem MR2s have, Paranoia. You lose the back end, and you're pretty much toast. Can hope to spin it and save it in the other lane, but if you're going too fast... kiss the rail, or kiss the sky. Either way, bye bye. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Well, good on keeping it Chrono, even if it was due to unfortunate circumstances. When're you out again? Would be good to get a group of NSers together for some fun in the hills. Even if no one (intelligent) runs the crest road itself any more... too many ricers draw too much LEO attention nowadays, and make them angry by semi-regularly going over the edge. One of them even ended up causing a fire that burned away a hundred acres or so last year.. some 'tard in a blue EK9. Damn rice kids, giving auto enthusiasts a bad name...
On the up side, just got new front brake pads. The rotors are BADLY warped, and the anti-squeal shims were put on backward (aka: junk now) so I'm shimmying something fierce. Getting the new pads bedded in so I can go have a little fun, but I can already feel the difference... new pads with the coating still on stop the car harder than the old pads did. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" /> I should have taken a few pictures, but I found out why they weren't squealing... the squeal-flange had snapped off entirely on the passenger side, and the driver's side pad was so badly glazed, it hadn't even worn down since the last time I checked it. Also, the driver's side caliper piston is leaking from the bore seal. :b Time for new front calipers for more than one reason! And might as well go bigger, if I can source the 93-94 mounting brackets. Mmmm two-pot, with friggin' <b>huge</b> swept area. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
^ the cylinder killed itself while i was driving back from the morongo casino on the way to palmsprings. was on the 210 heading back and the car just stalled out and wouldnt start back up. towed it back home and took some time to look at it. the timing belt was ripped to shredds (not just the teeth the entire belt) got a new belt and set up the timing and one of the cylinders had no compression. this happened with basicly 1 weekend left for me to leave to the military so instead of tearing it down me and my dad put it under storage.
as ###### up as some of the drivers on the crest may be, it is still one of the greatest roads in all of socal. its just so close to the city and once you get on it you feel miles away from everything its ###### amazing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
and the whole mr2 oversteer thing is the first gens have a very short wheel base and some very soft stock suspension in the front so once you let off the throttle you get alot of weight transfer and that tends to make the back go.
and ill be back in cali around christmas time but i wont have anything remotely sporty to go up the crest with. so if i do ever go up there itll be as a passanger
TalesinOur own little well of hateJoin Date: 2002-11-08Member: 7710NS1 Playtester, Forum Moderators
Sure, let me know, I have an empty passenger seat, even if the car's a lot heavier than you'll probably be used to on those roads.
Extra upgrade... found the calipers I need for the big-brake upgrade at a pick-a-part. Twenty bucks for the front set, complete. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> Now just need to get some new rotors and pads for the NEW calipers, and a set of new outer brake lines (they've gotta come off anyway, no point in putting the old ones back on). Should take all of an hour once I have the parts, including bleeding the lines down. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Debating if I want to clean them up and re-paint them Mitsubishi Red... may as well, really. Just have to figure out how to clean them without damaging anything, or neccessitating a rebuild. Dirty as all hell, fingers keep coming away black any time I touch them at all.

Good on them, hope more go that way (arrested/impounded). Annoying little things, I've almost hit five morons this year who were riding them in the bike lane, or across an intersection where I was trying to make a right. FAR too low to be really visible to cars.

Nice bike!
And where is Angel's Crest at? I'm next to Costa Mesa, is it an interesting road?
I have fresh new tires now and I'm ready for some runs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
My two back tires had about 10% tread left haha and the back-right had a flat spot from when I slammed the brakes hardcore behind a friend. =x
Umm..if anybody is in Cali and don't mind driving to South Gate or paying 30-50 bucks for shipping. I can help you get some Federal 595 tires for cheap. =)
Sunfire is still fairly stock, just upgrated throttle body recently and added newer cam gears with slightly larger injectors + fuel pump and rails. I'm thinking after I actually forge the internals I may go with a turbo, but I am not sure.
Money is always an issue, like usual. :-)

200sx s13 (it's what we Ukers call it. It has the CA18DET engine, unfortunetly not an SR20DET!)
And now;

Crappy Diesel Laguna...
Only have it beause I have 2 things on my mind. Motorbike license and a Civic EF project
MBC... was the GSX already tuned or flashed for the MBC before? Careful using boost ctrl w/o a map x_x
"stage 1" evo 9s are so similar that an initial flash is just the cheapest and fastest way to do it at that point. Once I go for camshafts then I have to go get tuned.
Just have to get a better/steadier job at this point, to keep the car fed. :b
Oh no you di-int

same boat, my friend... same boat. I'm going stg1 > 264/272 > tkit... but the turbo kit is probably gonna be like 4-5k? So that ###### ain't happenin for a while ;/
*Edit* I forgot to post my timeslip from about a year ago, sorry I won't forget to post them from this year out at the track, I promise.

Then again, if you have money to throw at a brand name, must have money to toss at parts and maintenence.

it is in burbank off the 210..get off of angeles crest....carefull because there are
tons of cops couples miles in from the start...just wait for the thumbs up and speed up from there. oh and its a famous road with a place to eat halfway through and watch the motogp races.. cant make it this sunday but next week for sure
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Kinda annoying that they aren't planning to have the couple of damaged miles repaired until 2009 at the earliest.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
no i didnt manage to sell it. slowly aging and dying in my garage. engine killed a cylinder on my last days of driving it. i guess the past 20 years of abuse and poor maintanance caught up with it. my dad spends his free time working on it but its basicly under a cover and on jack stands waiting for my military contract to end so i can come home and bring it back to life <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
and after a year and a half of driving that car i would still ###### bricks every single time i felt the slightest amount of slip in the back of that car. its just one of those cars that once the back starts going its ###### gone.
240sx drivers call that the "INITIAL DRIFT" (rofl).
I just got back from my tire shop with new tie rods and tension rods installed and a new camber setting.
Holy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" /> do I grip like a mofo. I miss the loose/drift feeling, but I'll ride with this for a bit. =)
<img src="http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e23/tonee4130/DSC00283.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
Bonnet has a hole in it, gonna replace with either a carbon one or another one for now
Well, good on keeping it Chrono, even if it was due to unfortunate circumstances.
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
the cylinder killed itself while i was driving back from the morongo casino on the way to palmsprings. was on the 210 heading back and the car just stalled out and wouldnt start back up. towed it back home and took some time to look at it. the timing belt was ripped to shredds (not just the teeth the entire belt) got a new belt and set up the timing and one of the cylinders had no compression. this happened with basicly 1 weekend left for me to leave to the military so instead of tearing it down me and my dad put it under storage.
as ###### up as some of the drivers on the crest may be, it is still one of the greatest roads in all of socal. its just so close to the city and once you get on it you feel miles away from everything its ###### amazing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
and the whole mr2 oversteer thing is the first gens have a very short wheel base and some very soft stock suspension in the front so once you let off the throttle you get alot of weight transfer and that tends to make the back go.
and ill be back in cali around christmas time but i wont have anything remotely sporty to go up the crest with. so if i do ever go up there itll be as a passanger
Maybe time to adjust some toe.
My camber is:
fronts are 1.44
rears are 1.68
Federal 595 tires
215/45/17
