I'll have to find the video. Essentially at first they had a problem telling it where the desired spot was (this was auto-perpendicular, not auto-parallel), then it complained that it needed to be downhill, then after they turned around it turned in, smacked the near car with the passenger side door, and then backed into the van on the far side before it finally stopped and said it had an error.

Also: The new Evo X has nothing to do with that half-riced classic-raping travesty that is the current-generation Mustang. Possibly the fox-body mustangs, but not the new craptastic ones, which should never have been built.

I wasn't aware it was designed for auto-perpindicular. Auto-parallel works like this:<ol type='1'><li>you pull up to the rear of the parking slot, stop, and push a button</li><li>you pull ahead to the front of the parking slot, stop, and push a button</li><li>you pull ahead until your rear bumper is approximately even with the front of the parking slot, push a button, take your hands off the wheel and feet off the pedals, and it does the rest - slower than a human but perfectly every time</li></ol>The day I wnet over to test-drive one, they had five on the lot and a waiting list, so I said screw it. Besides, $81,472? I think not.... ... .. . <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />

Auto-perpendicular you drive past the spot, and use the onscreen rear-view camera and nav system to pick out the spot. When the arrow goes green, hands and feet off, and it's supposed to just roll itself back and turn into place. In the video it most definitely didn't.

Besideswhich. If you're that rich, you should have time to learn to parallel park. I hate spoiled rich folk... leading cause of accidents out here is some bint in an SUV on a cell or drinking coffee, not watching the damn road.

    Hey, if you're <b>THAT</b> rich you should be chauffered around! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

When I took my first tractor-trailer drivers test in N.Y. I had to parallel park an 18 wheeler, come within 6" of the curb with ALL axles, and only get one pull-up. Needless to say 90% of the first-timers failed the test. I passed because the school I went to made us practice this countless times. Stupid for something that NEVER got used.... ... .. .

That car is almost as sexy as the 06-07 eclipse
  • ZigZig ...I am Captain Planet&#33; Join Date: 2002-10-23 Member: 1576Members
    new eclipse is prety cool but.. the evo isn't supposed to look all stupid <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> they're ruining everything! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad-fix.gif" />

I'd say that the 4G Eclipse is much like the 3G Eclipse... it <i>looks</i> sporty, but that's just to sell them to women who want a sporty-looking car. The jury is still out on if the engine has any real potential, but the lack of an AWD option kinda kills it... that and the 'bubble-butt' looks outright stupid.
Between the two, I'd actually take the 'Angry Evo' over the 4G eclipse.
  • ZigZig ...I am Captain Planet&#33; Join Date: 2002-10-23 Member: 1576Members
so you'd take the rarr! sexy evo?

or the demented, slackjawed crackbaby evo?

I'll wait until the X has been out for a year or two before I decide.

    After all.. the 9 is just the 8, with a few 10 features back-ported as a stopgap, for those who have no patience. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Pardon me for the crappy pics, it's an old digicam. This was the first day/night I got it.

    I'll post better pics soon.

Btw, this is called the Toyota Fortuner, it's only available in Asia and some select countries only, mainly because it will compete directly with Toyota's other SUVs that are for sale in the US.

I don't know, I find the 4th Gen Eclipse quite hot, and the engine more then likely has potential. I do miss the AWD on it though.

The one I test drove was easily 2-3 seconds faster then a stock 1g/2g turbo awd. It had some slip control on the GT model, so I'd guess around solid 14.0 to maybe mid 13's depending upon driver and transmission with a good track setting.

From what I'm reading, stock puts them about a second faster 0-60 and on the quarter in stock form. Then again, from the numerical data, the 2000 (3G) is equal to a GSX in both.
What's to really be seen is how easy it is to push them down into running a 10-second quarter... as they have no hope of coming close to equalling the seven-second quarter set by a 1Gb.

Again. Jury's still out, and IMO they're a 'looks' car, like the 3G. And don't even pull that one off.

PS - Just went by Road Race and put down $3000 as a deposit. They claim that the car will be done in about two weeks. Should have gone by in person a month ago, and I might actually have the car back already. :b Going full bore at this point; Wiseco pistons, Eagle 4340 rods, ARP fasteners all around, metal head gasket, swirl polished and undercut valves. A new Centerforce DF 2500# clutch, and a Fidanza flywheel that I picked up for a steal... $180 as they were discontinuing carrying them. Better and cheaper than what I'd originally planned, as it's about 4 pounds lighter, $40 cheaper, and lists for $350. Discontinuing them as Fidanza stopped giving them a deal on parts price.
Dropped the knife edged/lightened/balanced crank though, in the interests of smoother running.. apparently the rotational inertia is needed at higher boost levels.
Total bill's going to run just over $6500, including all labor and tax. It occurred to me that I could have taken that money and picked up a decently maintained 3000GT VR4... one of my dream cars. :b But hey, dreams are meant to stay as dreams, until you have a higher goal picked out. Right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    yeah.. *sigh*

it's in the shop right now because i got put in a rear-end entrapment at a yielding turn.

chick is about to roll through the intersection, and then slams on her brakes with me right behind her in order to yield to someone waaaaaay far back.

i apologized for hitting her (around 10-20mph.. enough to shove my intercooler and dent my radiator...) and mentioned that it really looked like she was going through the intersection. she replied that she thought she was going through too, and just decided to stop.
