Oh, you said that you didn't care about the backstory. It's a really simple game though, so I still think you'll be OK if you jump in without reading anything. Seems that most of the other people here have already played it, so you'll not be short of people to ask for help.

When the beta opens, we need only one person to create the team, so, for the sake of simplicity, (and since I alerted everyone of this <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->) I hope no one minds if I do it.
I haven't seen anywhere say there is a limit to the number of people in a Team, so hopefully we will all be able to join into it. When it comes out, we all need to go scouting for what lobby would be best. I assume the Teams are global, so it won't really matter if we're in different servers, but a central Lobby meeting place would be good.
edit: From the badly google translated japanese pages, it seems teams can have a team flag. It seems to be a 32 x 32 bmp file, so give it a try if you want. (make it gif or something to upload here though so we can all see it)
We could use this, but it's a little bit small: <!--emo&::tsa::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tsa.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tsa.gif' /><!--endemo-->
edit2: Oh, and it said transparency is #000000 (or in the RGB system, 0,0,0... or in our english system, solid/flat/complete black)
I'll TRY to join the team... but I can't promise anything. I'm not good at being part of organisations (especially ones I didn't make myself <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).

There seem to be certain advantages to being on a Team. I don't quite understand it, but it seems the leader will be able to buy features for the team to use using team points or something... Plus there will be a chat feature for teams.
Well if the weapons weren't balanced they should've just left them out, is what I'm saying. So stop being a **** because I disagree or think something you don't.

You should like the gameplay. Especially if you use a controller with it. It is so sexy. It's like an action morpg... (not going to say massive because it's not really... you only go with like 4 at a time)
I might end up paying monthly for a bit if I get hooked enough during the beta.

For the beta, I think most players would enjoy being Hunters. They're the most fun class if it's only for a limited time. Forces are more fun when you're level 40 plus, and have enough of a TP pool so that you don't have to return to town after every completed room.

It was kind of like that, only instead of having a golden tooth, he was a real life friend whom I watched get it legit (for some reason watching people play PSO can be very fun) with my own two eyes.

Replace "Trade with the reputable gentleman" with "Wrest it from the the hands of some unfortunate monster" and "with the golden tooth" with "in offline mode while in Ruins 3" and you've got a winner.
It's not the Lavis Canon's fault it's the most duped weapon ever. If you were the most awesome weapon in the universe, people would dupe you a lot, too!

Although it's annoying that you won't believe me, I really can't blame you, since I've seen more cheated lavis cannons than I have spread needles (and that's saying something).

FOnewms have the largest bum in the game... it's not an uncommon sight to see people lining up to punch/kick it :p
I dunno flow... I like melee and casting isn't the most complex part of PSO really; it's a lot harder to melee without taking a hit than it is to chain-fire spells at them XD
I'm sorta torn between HUnewearl and FOnewearl for the beta now... I might look into FOmarls so I can get my melee fix but I don't think I could manage running around in a long skirt like that for long :p
The main draw of the forces now really is that sega went "oops! everyone can cast all the spells! that makes forces kinda useless" back in PSO1 and now only forces can cast reverser (along with having access to all the spells and having individual boosts to certain ones). The reverser spell is the biggy though :p To be honest I'm a lil surprised they didn't restrict ryuker a bit too...
For legits I had the following back in PSO1 and they're all totally legit: Delsaber set (blade and shield) Pan Arm Blades Holy Ray State/Maintanence 2x God/Ability God/Battle 2 x Perfect/Resist
oh and one of those mags that makes you invincible for just about anything beyond breathing (oh boss! invinc. Oh low hp! invinc. Oh full PB bar! invinc. etc) :p Think it might've been opa opa but I really can't remember. It wasn't the one I wanted really but it was nice all the same and it was also the only mag cell I ever actually found :s

You will be able to have four characters in the beta, so you don't actually need to decide on just one. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

not really... back in PSO1 everyone could cast all the spells to maximum level so the only difference between a Force casting say... Rafoie and a HUmar was pretty minimal. Then again, back then the FOnewearls weren't quite as gimped in melee so I could actually hit and damage things; they can't do that anymore, just like the non-forces don't have the full technique arsenal at full strength anymore :3
