By the time you have the MST to learn an offensive tech, it's almost entirely useless. And let's not forget that you will never have the TP to regularly use high level techniques without having to go back to town for fluids after every room.
maybe but you're talking to someone who spent about half their time in PSO1 (over a year) playing with a maxxed out character alongside other maxxed out characters. The development might have been that way but top-end the HUmar/HUnewearl were better than forces because they could do all the magics to good levels and still beat things with soul-banish/sinow beat blades/giant swords/whatever :p
Attack Techniques were also pretty naff back in PSO1 anyways as they didn't do enough damage to merit the TP costs; even to a Force with max MST.
Like I said though... it's not a problem now since they changed the technique limits and stuff. Only real problem with it as it is now is that the FOnewearls (my old meleeing magic class) now utterly sucks at combat and has to rely on spells entirely which is sorta boring :p Even FOmarls have double the ATP of a FOnewearl :o
Course... I'm also a bit irritable because I can't seem to find a costume I like more than my old PSO look either XD
But only the Del's shield and Holy Ray are really hard to find out of those. Well done anyway though, that's far better than the swag I'd amassed over three versions!
Actually, now I think back, I'm sure that one of my last finds on the GC was a Del's left arm. That turns into the shield and not the saber, right?
State/Maints were removed from the GC and Xbox versions, so I expect they won't return here either. We'll still have to fear those lillies.
There's no disputing that PSOv1 forces were useless, but in the Gamecube version, my FOnewm's enhanced RA magic was pretty monsterous. It couldn't compete with a Hunter doing his thing, but since I was blasting multiple guys at once, I'd end up getting the bulk of the kills.
OMG I forgot about the spear-weapons! I know what my weapon of choice is gonna be again! I had so much fun being a Cavalier with the halberd. HUcast with a spear ftw! Now I'll pick up a Slicer as a ranged weapon just so I can be different.
Back on PSOv1 I found some type of gold saber weapon. I forgot what it was called, but if someone mentioned it, I'd remember. It was pretty kick-arse.

Hehe, I think we will all be hiding behind Gem.
I'm still trying to work out what to go (I only play 1 char so alts aren't a solution). HUnewearl, FOnewearl, FOmarl... mind you, I did make a FOmar that looks eerily like may from guilty gear which was fun but either way I don't think I'll be playing a FOmar anyways :p
If I go HUnewearl I can't revive people from the dead and my techs won't be as strong as they could be but I'll be able to belt things about with big melee weapons which is darn fun. On the other hand if I go the one class I've always played I could keep a small army alive pretty easily but I'll have trouble beating my way out of a paper bag if I run out of TP :p
Course... there's always the FOmarl which allows me some half-decent melee and still casts the good stuff buuuuuut... I'd miss the pointy ears and I'm not really a 'long skirt' kinda person :/

I'm almost definitely going HUmar, just like in PSO 1 for DC. I just remember it being mad fun. Though I died alot, so I always needed good healing dudes with me.
I don't know if it's still the same but I found with a bit of experimenting that HUmars are amongst the slowest meleers for the vast majority of weapons. Strangely the FOnewearl, while weak, is actually rather fast with their swings (as long as it's not a force weapon; for some reason they swing those things slowwwww). The difference isn't amazingly huge but I noticed it when I was messing about with other chars back in the DC days for a giggle :o

5 more days left. I got my gamecube to pc adapter in the mail today. It's horrible for NS, but it works very nicely for HL Rally. I can't waait.
Mmm what should I pick...what should I pick....I can't really choose Ah well, maybe I'll just be a HUmar and do the typical hacking and slashing =X
I just pray I don't have to go solo levelling again =\
EDIT : Mmmm do we need to give names on who's who? I'll be on my usual Haisho =X
One thing you guys should know about PSO is that there's no "one person per name" limit so you don't have to worry about someone "taking your name". If you want to call yourself something (as long as it's clean :p ) then you'll be able to call yourself it.
I'll probably be Amy as per usual :3 Still not sure on the class but I have this horrible feeling I'll end up FOnewearl because that's the class I've always been :p
Oh yeah I forgot about that! In that case I'll probably be SkyNet the HUcast! Hmm... nah. I like Bolt Vanderhuge more. Oh oh, I know! Fumblefingers Gearshift!

QUOTE (Surge @ May 6 2005, 11:56 AM)

Oh yeah I forgot about that! Fumblefingers Gearshift!

There's a twelve letter limit per name.
just for the heck of it I might as well also mention that your 'sector ID' which determines what kind of stuff you'll find and your mag evolution possibilities is worked out using the letters and symbols in your name (the order doesn't matter so amy and may both give me the same one).
I can't remember exactly what's good for what buuuut as a relatively solid thing to remember: pinkal is most likely to find the high level tech discs. If you're a pinkal all the force girls will love you including me so remember that :p Yellowboze is infamous for finding more meseta than most. They don't seem to really specialise in any kind of item as far as I remember, they just find lots and lots of cash compared to the others.
Here's a handy lil section ID thingy. If you're particularly bored you can also use the lil section ID calc located at the very top of the page; it's tiny and looks a bit like a banner but it's just a program that lets you work out what ID your possible names will give you :3
edit: just incase someone takes this part too seriously; don't worry about your ID too much. The stuff found in multiplayer is based on the ID of whoever makes the 'game' so just befriend people with the ID you want and make sure they prep the room instead of you. Also if you want a B type mag and you're an A type you can just give the mag to a friend to let them feed it to the new evolution and you'll get their type as long as you don't feed it too much afterwards :3

QUOTE (twoflow @ May 1 2005, 09:10 PM)

HUcaseal for me, I think.

What the hell does it all mean? Someone is going to have to break down the classes for me.
the first two letters of the class name tell you it's 'type'.
HU - Hunter: the melee class of the game. RA - Ranger: the gun carrying combatants of the game. FO - Force: Priest + mage = explosive healing fun :3
the rest of the word denotes both the race and sex all in a oner :D
mar - Human Male marl - Human Female newm - Newman Male newearl - Newman Female cast - Android Male caseal - Android Female
The humans are... well... human. Not much to tell about them other than they tend to be more rounded race and are the most flexible when it comes to using materials to alter your stats (they can chow down 250 in their lifetime while the other two can only have 150).
Newman are the magically inclined race. They regen TP (technique points; the stuff that powers your spells) naturally over time. They sorta resemble elves a bit though they're a artificially made race; genetically engineered by humanity. They reach physical maturity at a much, much earlier age than humans and are very intelligent but their lifespan is uncertain. Most live their lives happily then drop dead one day all of a sudden. Sometimes they outlive humans, sometimes they don't :p Unlike humans you cannot cap all their stats even using all the materials and a well balanced mag so you'll have to work out as the game progresses which you want to strengthen yourself in.
Androids are artificial lifeforms of the mechanical kind. Their internal systems have self-repair capabilities and so they regen health over time. unlike the other two races they cannot use techniques (spells) at all. On the other hand they're usually a little bit stronger, faster and tougher than their fleshy counterparts and they can detect traps. They're also the only race that can use/carry the rather handy player traps ^^
Hope that clears things up a bit :3
edit: don't worry about the lifespan thingy... it doesn't effect the gameplay, it's just background info :3
I actually hope I get assigned to a GOOD sector for once, and not one of those.....ones that aren't very profitable at all.

QUOTE

Most live their lives happily then drop dead one day all of a sudden.

Made me laugh for some reason... I'm weird!
What is the type with the guns? Anyway playing with them is like playing the game on uber hard mode. Well at least in PS for the Gamecube, I was like just reaching level 26 or something before I could beat the second level.
guns? well quantum... all classes can use pistols and mechguns but for rifles and 'shots' you'd have to go ranger which is the easiest class in the game as far as I'm concerned. I actually find them rather boring to play but that's just my opinion :p
Rangers have long ranged attacks and can hang back, but are weak in melee (depending on their weapon's delay) and do less damage. Of course, a ranger with enough ATP could still use a decent weapon if forced into melee...
Hunters have powerful melee attacks, but expose themselves to close range assults and must have good armour, hp, or evade to survive if they miss a combo. Also, they have little ability to attack at range until they can build up their acc and use a mechgun, for example.
Forces have powerful ranged attacks, but rely on TP in order to perform their attacks and are reliant on money. Also, at the higher levels, they have this one-hit death issue with some/all monsters. ^_^ In addition, even with their issues with weapons, you can still be decent with close OR long range weapons as a force if you are carful.
So each class, really, has it's own strengths and weaknesses. It's how you play, and how you ENJOY playing that should determine your class. I personally enjoy rangers, and I beg to differ about them being "easy" considering that you can get trapped in a corner by a delsaber and beaten into snot just as quickly as any force if you aren't carful.
