It's amazing that Nintendo released the Gamecube for much cheaper than the other two consoles, with better graphics than the PS2 and almost as good as the Xbox, and still managed to be the only manufacturer to make a profit on the console itself.
Why don't you go model something. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That doesn't really answer the question of whether or not the stuff was pre-rendered. You only get half a green cookie (expect it in your mailbox by 4 days/years and with a possible side of anthrax).

One other thing about this thread, all this talk is making me very happy that I enjoy games for substance over graphics. For example, NS is my favorite MP game despite offerings like Joint Ops and UT2K4, which are also great games. To me, it's better to have a decent-looking game like NS running at a perfect, constant, and high framerate than to have a great-looking game like Doom 3 running at 30-40 fps. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> I was referring to this line:

$500? That's still like £400.... methink I shall not actually own a PS3 until 2007 at least <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

With consoles you always end up spending much more money for the games, and all your games will easily surpass the value of your console.
Even with that said I am probably going to buy a PS3 for the popularity of the console. I agree with esuna about environments still look crappy and horrible, something of which my X-Box has never managed to turn up but the PS3 has.

If you're like me, you can play games with photorealistic graphics in your head, but you'll probably get hit by a car because you won't be paying attention.
