Can anyone explain to me when/why does the Imperial army transition from being comprised of clones to actually recruiting real people? The clones seem to be quite efficient and effective shock troopers, and they are impeccable when it comes to following Palpatine's orders. I don't see why "real" people would be preferrable (for the Emperor's purposes) to clones.

I dunno if there's a name for it (there's gotta be...) but its in like.. everything. TV shows, Starcraft, etc.

Its the one that's a reall long "GRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH" type yell, start off kind of deep pitched and ends up being higher pitched. Anyone know what I'm talking about? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The one you hear when you click on the academy upgrade building in starcraft, that sounds like some guy having his intestines pulled through his bellybutton? I noticed it's quite popular as well. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Did anyone else notice how often grevios/palpatine could have killed obi wan/windu? Well ok I guess palpatine wanted anakin to come. But why did yoda suddenly run away right in the middle of his duel with palpatine?
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Grievious couldn't have killed anyone, he was kinda a nub really. Especially since Windu pwned his butt prior to the engagement. Doku could have probably killed obi-wan, but anakin was quite a bit stronger as evidenced by how easily he did pwn him in the end. Not to mention the fact, he knew who palpatine was, and was probably assuming anakin was to be his apprentice not palpatines. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yeah, Grevious was like a nub playing NS, who thinks he's going to win because he has "ZOMG TEH HAX!!"

"Teh hax", in this case, refers to mechanical arms.

On another side note, I found this <a href='http://www.geekswithguns.com/downloads/videos/wilhelm_27mb.mov' target='_blank'>27MB MOV</a> featuring various uses of the wilhelm sound through movies. :D

It's not a landing strip nor a crashing strip; it's a staging strip. When Yoda loads up with the Wookiee on his ships, that's another staging strip; it's got docks and stuff. The whole Jedi kid/Bail Organa thing was sort of answered: Bail Organa could not be shot by the troopers because as of now, the Emperor needs the senate to hold the Empire together (notice in Episode 4 when he dissolves it, some of the Imperials are incredulous. "How will he maintain control?" "Fear will keep them in line."). The Jedi kid recognized Bail Organa as a good senator, friendly to the Jedi, and made a break for his speeder. Obviously that didn't work out.

I don't know the real reason for not using clones anymore, but by the time Episode 4 rolls around (20 odd years) the original clones would be getting pretty old. So they would have to be replaced with new recruits.

Perhaps while the clone army was good for the Empire takeover, standard recruitment techniques are more efficent once you have your Galactic Empire up and running?

But, they have the "blueprints", and I would guess the machinery to produce the clones, unless those were destroyed sometime...
  • BloodySlothBloodySloth Join Date: 2003-08-27 Member: 20284Members
Maybe they wanted some variation in tactics? For the clone wars all they needed was an army with one sole directive, and for that an army made up of copies of the same person would (and did) work brilliantly. For the new role stormtroopers took, I would imagine different people with different ways of viewing a problem would be a great advantage.

Also, the outlawed cloning. The Emperor saw the power that clones could bring, and he too saw how easy it was to keep such a huge army hidden until it was needed. The last thing he needs is the rebellion finding Kamino and growing themselves 1,000,000 Wedge Antilles', so he outlawed cloning. Besides, recruiting people to be Stormtroopers keeps them busy, docile, and loyal minions. Otherwise, a militaristic Empire with no army recruitment would breed even more dissent.

Heh, have you watched the movies/read the books? Individual thinking is the <u>last</u> thing Imperial officers want out of their troops.

Not to mention, if you've played Republic Commando, you'd know that clones are "bred" to think in different ways to suit different tasks (grunt, pilot, field commander, commando, etc).

See, that's an answer. The "outlawing cloning" thing is new to me, but I suppose it makes sense. The greatest asset of the Empire is the number of troops, and clones can ruin that. Also, the army is the perfect way to keep citizens in compliance with the Emperor's will.

I'm not a tremendously avid follower of this newfangled Star Wars, so no, I havent read many of the books, and I haven't played Republic Commando either. It was just a suggestion.

Sorry for the resurrection, but I just saw it last weekend.

Does anyone know if the clones <i>were</i> actually replaced? I don't remember ever seeing a storm trooper take his helmet off in 4-6.

The fact that every single officer in all of the movies looks different would suggest that they've been recruiting at least a little. It'd be silly to imagine that they'd ignore the immense pool of soldiers just waiting for them (the star wars universe is amazingly huge, don't foget. Trillions and trillions of people).

If you take the extended universe as well, you'll see that for example in Jedi Academy, one of the cultists said he used to be a stormtrooper but decided to stop.
This gives him a brain, a decision, and therefore he is not a clone.

Then again, Bobba Fett is alive in Jedi Academy, so who knows <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Bobba Fett survives the sarlac in the EU. He's pretty hurt / damaged / weakened by it but he's saved by another bounty hunter, and after recovering, was back up to his old tricks.

This is because he is awesome.

He mentioned in the "tychu's haikus suck" thread that he'll just put his Haikus together in a sentence after he's written it out, because some people are finding it difficult to read. These people apparantly have trouble with eyesight, or something.
