I've been contemplating buying a firearm for a while now and wanted a few more opinions. My friend recently bought a Glock 22 and after handling it and missing out on going out shooting I'm considering buying either a rifle or a handgun.
As for what I've been looking at. I've been to a couple of gun shops around here and I've eyed a few M1 Garands and some Mini-14's. I'm also looking at the Beretta Cx4 Storm, it's a carbine and I think it looks cool. As for handguns I don't know much about them but they are nice and small so they store easy and you can get a conseal-carry permit around here pretty easily.
Basically what can you tell me about the previously mentioned guns and if you have any other suggestions that would be great. Thanks.

Depends what you want it for.
If you want something you can conceal in a concealed-carry US state, then you'll want something nice and small. a Glock21 (i think.. the subcompact 9mm) is a good choice, and it comes in highered powered chamberings. Glocks are also generally cheaper than other brands, such as H&K, Sig, Kimber, etc.
If you just want something to fool around with at the range, a Glock 19 is a good choice. 9mm ammo is cheap, plus it can hold 17 rounds in the magazine now that the AWB is over. The full sized H&K USPs are very nice, also.
The main point is to go to a good gun shop. Feel a few guns, tell the people there what you intend to use it for, pick the one that is most comfortable to you. As long as you stay with the main manufactures (H&K, Sig, Glock, S&W for revolvers, Remmington, Ruger, Colt, etc.) then anything you buy should be reasonably reliable.

I don't own any of the three you listed, so take this for what it's worth.
Many collecters like the garands, although these days the cost is outrageous even for a shooter grade. It will go bang when you pull the trigger, and .30-06 will take any game you'll find in north america if hunting is your thing.
People seem to either love the ruger mini's (mini-14 and mini-30) or despise them. The main complaint is the barrel heats up quickly, and combined with some of the design issues, accuracy turns out to be poor. I can elaborate on the issues if you wish, but it will take some digging. Many mini lovers say that with a few aftermarket tweaking the issues are solved, but for the money, I'd just save up a little more and buy an AR-15 if you want something in 5.56mm.
As for the beretta storm, most of what I hear about it is pretty underwhelming. More specifically, there were complaints of finicky feeding issues with some ammunition, poorer ergonomics than anticipated, and a crappy trigger. On the other hand, it is apparently pretty reliable and accurate for what it is.
The three firearms you listed are in three widely different categories; the Garand shoots a full power round, the mini's shoot an intermediate power round, and the storm shoots pistol rounds. There is a huge difference in weight, handling, and recoil between the three. Therefore it boils down to what you want to do with it, as mentioned. Is the glock your only experience with firearms thusfar, or have you had experience shooting a wide variety of firearms including the full powered battle rifles like garands? The recoil can be uncomfortable depending on what you're used to, it would be a shame to buy it and not like it.
My best advice for the three firearms you mentioned, and for the concealed carry pistol, is to go out to some place that lets you rent firearms and try them out. Even better, search for firearms forums and do some digging around, you'll learn a lot which will save you money and lessons learned down the road.

Your "constructive" post concerning hunting rifles was directly related to your statement about gun ownership, saying that you approve hunting rifles but not carrying around a pistol. We don't particularly care what you approve concerning gun ownership; you didn't answer his question.

They are my dod clan buddies forums, they really know about guns and that and very occasionally go on shootings, and purchasing guns. I'd bet they know alot about guns.
When looking at the M1's I noticed that they went from about $300 to $600+. The Mini-14's were around $200+. As for the Storm the gun store didn't have any in stock but the guy at the counter said it'd be in the neighborhood of $600. As for pistols I know those range considerably.
I'm really not leaning toward the Mini-14's, they remind of a toy gun because they're so damned small. And doesn't the Storm fire the same 9mm rounds that other Beretta handguns use?

Actually.. I suggest the baby Desert Eagle. It's cheaper, smaller, but still has the good stopping power of a magnum and feels good and heavy. It's only problem is it doesn't have the front weight of the normal DEagle or magnum revolver, so if your arms or wrist is a little weak, you won't like firing it. I suggest hollow tips for bullets, as they bounce off bones and make large unpredictable exit wounds.... But the large size of the bullet usually cracks right through the first bone it encounters.
