Post your Lerk tactics or adventures...
Man, i love Lerks! When we get 3 hives, everybody goes "ONOS!!!!!1111"... Not me I evolve into the Lerk and always use carapace, cloaking and adrenaline upgrades. That way, hiding in umbra and spore clouds i once killed about 30 marines without dying and also destroyed plenty of structures.

And because of flying, Lerks ROCK! You can hide on some dark pipes, chuckling at the enemy and choking him with the spores.

I'm adding this topic so that every Lerk lover can post his tactics and MOSTLY adventures. Tell us, how you scared that marine and how you skillfully flied in a vent, and killing 10 marines besides...

Lol......I do excactly the same. The very minute we get the 3rd Hive.....it?s Lerk time!!

I once kept a group of marine?s by myself from getting the 3rd Hive. I was cloaked up on some pipe and Spored like crazy and finished them off with spike?s. It was hilarious! I always moved around a little when they where out of sight and reloading so they wouldn?t get me. I must have taken at least 10 marines alone until i got Fade backup.....

well, i love going lurk with regen, u can go on a turret hunt early on, hide round a corner, then peek and fire spikes at it and dodge back.

keep doing that and u'l get through the turrets like a good curry through a granny.

and if ur spotted, fly away and on a pipe or into some shafts, brilliant.

Lerk lovin' here too. I think we need to get some Lerk and Fade emoticons ...

I love camping out with Cloak, Silence, and Regeneration. Silent-but-deadly Lerk farts simply 0wn passing Marines.

And *flap flap flap* becomes ... an eerie silence ... as the Lerk glides towards its jarhead prey ... *CHOMP*

Spore cloud is a great way to help peel through a marine defended base, with onos and fade support of course. It's hard enough dodging those two but when you are getting gased as well it's near impossible to stop. With cloaking you can also be a complete menace.

Another good use of lerks is getting past a marine held choke point. While Sulks can do this too a lurk generally has a better chance since they don't have to leap and dodge through it all. I did this one game on bast I believe where they had the feedwater control, I flew past evolved to a fade and took out an almost undefended base with no trouble. Taking resource nodes like that can greatly help your team out.

Don't forget about umbra. It's very helpful when used in the right places, such as when a fade is poking around a corner to acid rocket/bile bomb some Frontiersmen and/or turrets, or when an onos is taking out the first few turrets of the Frontiersmen main base at the end of the game. Stand behind these guys and umbra for them, and they'll last a lot longer and do a lot more damage. You won't get many kills or much credit though. Maybe they should remove the kill/death ratio for Kharaa too...

heh i like sitting outside the Marine base doors, and right when one of my teammates or a Marine opens the door, i spore cloud their spawning thingy. its sooo funny becuz right when they spawn they start dieing, usually they die b4 they realize what happened. i love lerks also, using the Sensory Scent Of Fear works good when you hide in vents, because you can tell when they are coming back, so you spor cloud behind them first, then in front of em. they have nowhere to run, its great!!

There are certain places where lerks are better than any other class. One that comes to mind is the powersilo hive (ns_nothing I think), not only is it the prettiest hive in the game (imo) but Ive whiped out whole marine mini bases on my own easily. Turrets cant shoot you, Tfacs are easily destroyed, marines can hardly hit you.

I think the movement chamber is the most important for lerks, the defence chamber just doesnt affect the lerks low life enough for you to survive much longer, the sensory chamber is handy but when you can fly hive above everyone you can see everyone and noone can see you.
Of movement, celerity is a waste, your fast enough already. I find silence is best if you manage to sneak into an area and defend it but for sheer damage and the ability to fly forever adrenaline has to be the most important upgrade for the lerk. The lerk has to worry about energy more than any other class, its umbra and spores cost alot, its spikes are relatively weak and constant streams end much quicker without adrenaline, plus doing any of those things while flying will soon tire you out.

    Adrenaline+lerk=

the best experience in this game is being in a battle between a jetpack marine and a lerk... bullets and spikes flying everywhere... chasing a purple gas trail down narrow hallways at 50 mph... oh yeah doesn't get better than that.... except when they run out of energy and crater, thats even better

I had a really.. dare I say it.. emotional Lerk moment today. Its NS_Nancy and after about 90 minutes of to-ing and fro-ing the marines have got us in a lose-lose situation in our last hive.. one with the big cylindrical thing in the middle (not engine room and not subspace array) anyway, the last two living players on our team are me (a lerk) and a gorge. We were using voice com for this whole thing. This is what happened..

*hail of machine gun bullets, marines going for hive*

Me: "the vent! to the vent!"

*me and gorge run to the vent, I flap inside*

Gorge: "I cant get up there.. you go without me!"
    Me: "I wont leave you!"

*I flap down to the floor, he jumps on my back and I lift him to the vent*

Me: "RUN! RUN MY TUBBY FRIEND!"
    Him: "What about you?"
    Me: "I.."

*I get shot to high hell by about three combined HMGs gorge runs off into the vent, and gets blown up within 30 seconds by a guy spamming the vents with nades*

    Much laughing ensued.

That was the most entertaining defeat I've ever had.

I managed to wrack up almost 50 kills, with only 15 or so deaths using a level two lerk, and I only died four times as a lerk, the rest of the deaths were from the beginning of the game.
Most of the game we had them contained with very low resources, but atleast six of those kills were lone HA/HMG's. Umbra rules.

The Lerk is definitely my favorite class. Hella fun when you get umbra and even more fun with spore clouds. I'm also one of the few people who goes pure Lerk after the third hive. Everyone else wants Onos but not me--spore cloud and adrenaline are all I really need to have some old fashioned fun.

My love for the Lerk developed a few days ago when we were finishing off the marines at their spawn. Most of my team had went Onos and successfully destroyed all the turrents in the spawn so there marines were sitting ducks. However, the Onos stampede needed to retreat and heal for a moment after battling the marines and taking out the turrents. I stayed at the spawn with my Lerk and flew around the entire room spraying spore clouds whil the marines were spawning. Let me tell you it was the funniest thing ever; I didnt rack up a load of kills but its the fact that every marine in the room was shooting at me while I was flying around the ceiling sparying spores and they werent hitting me for sh*t. I was laughing so much at the ordeal that I could barely keep my hands at the keyboard. Eventually I run out of adrenaline and have to land behind their commander's console. Seems like after 3 seconds on the ground my adrenaline was back up and I proceeded to fly around the room drawing the marine's fire while the Onos stampede finally returned and finished them off for good. I laughed even harder after the game was over. That event alone made me love the Lerk. =)

I'd like to see the Lerk get some more high-pitched sounds, you know, like a SKREEEEE! or KRAAAAAAWW! Something to make the marines cover their ears and drop their guns.

Lerks are kind of fun but they need good teamwork like mentioned above, i find on most maps cloaking is usless because you have to fly to stay up in the air and you can be moving while flying so you have to find a pipe or something to stand on while cloaked it kind of sucks.

Earlier tonight on bast, I sat outside the airlock and shot spore clouds into it every time the marines would activate. I got a few of them that way; half the time they died before coming into view, the other half died to spikes as they ran down the hallway after me. Then I got daring and went through the airlock myself. Umbra, spore cloud, bite bite bite bite! The marines stopped defending that location at that point so I waltzed into their base and started laying down spore clouds all over the place. When they chased after me, I'd fly back to the airlock, hit the switch, and umbra/spore like mad until I was out of view. Twice, marines followed me into the airlock as it turned, and bite/knife fight hilarity ensued. Both times I escaped with single digit health, and the marines were very annoyed. Ended up 85-17 that game haha. Lerk 4 life.

Tanith has that nice reactor room with the water and 2 resource nodes. There's a completely black area to perch at and harrass the marines from, since they usually take that room. I sat up there for about 5 minutes shooting spores and spikes and they never caught on. My team was attacking from the other direction so they must have thought I was over there, but it was hilarious to see a HA marine walk into a corner he thought was safe, only to have it filled with spores. Marines really need to make coughing and choking sounds inside spore clouds, and some hideous gurgling noise if it kills them.

Everyone underestimates the pwn-power of the Lerk.

Whenever the marines start owning the game by placing turrets in all their outposts, many aliens give up or **obscenity** about "WE NEED ONOS!!!!!!!!111" Not true--in fact, get 2 or 3 lerks and have them rotate around doing umbras while fades come in and snipe the turrets out.

Can't see why people don't do that..

I'm a Lerk as soon as we have two hives. One game I constantly owned their outposts. One was getting pounded by a Fade for a few minutes and I flew in, Umbra'd, ate one turret station, Umbra'd again, ate the other. Repeat that a few times, and biting a HA with a HMG. XD

Yeah, the Lerks are really capable of good harrasing and even very good assaults.

I once cloaked on a pipe over a corridor and there was that lonely marine. I chuckled and he was looking around. Chuckled again and he started shooting corners. Eventually he stopped, and then i choked him with the spores. Anywho, I love being a lerk so I can just use spikes... the best long range Kharaa weapon. Accurate, fair damage, insane ROF (considering what this weapon actually IS)

I like flying behind enemy lines and taking out any stray marines. There's always a good spot to sit.

You guys think it's better to use carapace, or regeneration as a lerk? Regeneration would theoretically let you go forever, but I love being able to get those few extra moments of turret chomping time with carapace, and then barely escaping with 3 health

My favorite moment was in a fairly small game, we have 2 hives, and I decide to take a foray into the enemy base. This is on eclipse, and they have thier sentries up in the forward base, so I go in, fly to the back and start chomping on their command center, keeping umbra up the whole time, just for fun. They eventually wised up, and the commander got out, and I killed him. Hilarity ensues:

I just would keep umbra up and bite the CC until they spawned again, then take them out when they rushed for me. Also, regeneration was key there. I'm always partial to regen, because lerks are so good at controlling the combat circumstances with their movement, they can disengage and wait on regen and go back into battle. I also liked the moment where I flew into an enemy expansion complete with turrets, phase gates, guarding marines, and took the whole thing down, killing marines, keeping umbra up, taking out the turret factory and ambushing people coming thru the phase gate. Their expansion was at a hive point, so we took it to get hive 3 then decimated their main base.

Ah, yes. Lerk is the best class, has to be. A few marines are walking around a big room (I think bast has a few of those), then suddenly get hit, start firing everywhere, and call for ammo. I dont know why the lerks bite does 75 damage, when the guide says 50, but I don't mind. When you can swoop in, bite someone to death from behind, then fly away and needle the other poor jarhead, he doesn't stick around very long. And umbraing in the middle of a base and chomping a turret factory to death always gets laughs.

So is that thing that one guy said true? Can you really do more bite damage based on speed?
  • RPG_JssmfulhudRPG_Jssmfulhud Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4006Members
    OK, one thing.

Never, ever attack without adrenaline. (ok, sometimes you must, but the energy drains real quickly)

So, my favourite: adrenaline, cloaking, carapace

Regeneration is good but as a Lerk you can quickly fly to the nearest hive or defense tower and heal. The level 3 carapace on the other hand, gives you those extra seconds.

    Lerks = Teh W1n

In every situation I've been in, lerks always come out on top.

Not only is its incredibly hard to hit a flying lerk, but they are great team-players too.

In one situation, I was contiuing boosting Gorges up to vents, higher places to put turrets, and other cool things.

The best moments however are when you take three HE's down alone.
