Posted the lil fallspeed idea in ideas forum (where it belongs), so hopefully it doesn't get spammed to the second page too quickly by Rambo-marine weapon suggestions. Think of playing around on bast and seeing how fast you can go falling!
ummm does posion spore cloud kill ur own teamates?
perhaps that could be a patch change if not.. buecas spamming spore in a marine base and then running in is kinda unfair
Spore cloud shouldn't kill your own teammates, if they let you get three hives (that means third hive abilities should be powerful), then you shouldn't have the third h abilities nerfed because they're too good. Thats like giving onos less health and less powerful attacks to make it like the skulk.

Spore spamming is a greeat way to get much much kills in a row. I remember when a friend Lerk spammed those spores and poof! In 2 seconds, all, i mean ALL marine names appeared on the kill list, choked by the spores.
Nothing beats the sweetness of a Primal Scream enhanced spike attack from a Lurk (usually with adren but I don't think it would matter). Watch those building bars fall faster than anything. It's glorious but you usually only get to see it in the end game.
Lerk is my favorite as well. Once you truly master lerk flying, a whole new world opens up to you.
My most valued kills are not needles, not spores, but rather, fly-by-bitings. Nothing in NS is as gratifying to me as swooping down on a marine and biting his head in mid-air.
The lerk has the most strategic options of the alien team by far, and his ability to take down undefended (and even manned defenses) locations is truly unrivalled. My favorite lerk haunt is the reactor room, though I forget which map it is on (has satellite communications hive, 2 vents in the reactor which is usually where the marines go first). I love hiding in the vent or on top of one of the reactors against the wall (where it's rather dark) and pelting the foes with needles and swooping down to kill them before we have a 2nd hive. Once that 2nd hive goes up, I can destroy anything in that room, and keep half the marine team at bay...until they get grenade launchers that is.
As far as lerk tactics go, mastery of flying is everything. Fly everywhere. Not only will you get there faster, but the more you fly, the better you get at it. I can usually fly into any vent I want to in the first pass, barring one pesky hive vent in bast. With the mastery of flying comes quick retreats, avoiding gunfire by flying all around the marine, and the most prized fly-by-bitings.
A good flying tactic I've enjoyed with the lerk is on the map with the sewer, generator, and ventilation hives (sorry I don't know map names well). THe marine spawn has a vent accessible through sewer vestibules, but the marines usually weld it shut. In late-game, after we get 3 hives and we're going on that last assault on that base, I do a ballsy move - fly right into the base, over all the turrets and gun straight for that vent. Once up in that vent, umbra + spores makes quick work of any defenders and the base usually falls soon after. The marines have a chance to stop me early on with a grenade launcher, but if they leave me for more than a minute it's usually lights out as I start gassing the spawn portals and armoury.
A general 1 or 2 hive strat for lerks is to use the spikes to "soften" the marine up so only 1 bite will kill him, 2 max. Usually after lightly spiking a marine, he runs away, which tells me he's wounded and sorta low on health and doesn't want to risk it. That's when I leave my perch and swoop down for the bite kill. I can fly faster than he can run, and if he isn't watchign his back (they usually aren't), it's all over.
Hail to the Lerk!
I would rather take a suped up lerk over a fade or onos any day of the week! once my team gets that 2nd hive up, I can easily chew down any marine encampment that they can put up, its all a matter of strategy and patience... Check out my Flying guide for Lerks im trying to put together, Im trying to aim it at newb players but anyone who has lerk strats post them there, I would like to get it stickied if it has good enough info, we need a lerk sticky! you can find it here Lerk Flying Guide by ME!
Ok have a fun story to tell and good ideas in it too...
Last night, was playing Tanilith, the one with satalite com, waste management, and some other hive, anyway you know. We had just gotten our second hive but were hard pressed because they marines were actually working well as a team and corrdinating an attack on our first hive. We had one at waste and at satalite... so I am a lerk (of course) and i decide that the only way to save the hive is to do an attack on the enemy base... so i get going from satalite, (they were attacking waste) and fly into the enemy base, i umbra up and proceed to bite the hell outta the Observatory and Weapons lab, 2 of the weakest, yet more costly of structures. I kill them both, and then fly back to hive with rather modest health...then i get on public chat and say, Yummy, i loved the way your weapons lab and observatory taste! then the commander is like Oh yeah, try that again, i just built another one! So i say OK! i fly back into base (none of the marines came back yet...) and chomp the newly placed buildings, then take out one spawn portal and start working on another... at that point the commander must have been screaming bloody murder to his men cause they all come in in a group... so i take off back towards satalite hive... i get healed up and by the time the marines rebuild the stuff at base and stop doing 100% defense, we have taken out the siege cannons and base that is threatening waste management. They had managed to build up a rather large base in our unclaimed hive as well, which they all congregate at to hold us off too. SO i tell my teammates to all attack that base and i'll harrass the main spawn again... so they start attacking and i go to the main base and chomp down another weapons lab and prototype factory... suddenly, the marine commander cant place any good equipment for his marines... marines that were spawning started yelling over public, stupid commander, gimme hmg or ha! and he would yell back I cant cause you idiots let them destroy the buildings and now we are low on resources... suddenly that great teamwork of the marines was reduced to a bunch of arguing kids! needless to say we polished off their hive base, got the hive up and the game was over shortly after that... lesson to you lerks out there, THIS IS What you should do! Hit them where it hurts, the Pocketbook, and they'll be fighting each other as much as you! Divide and conquer baby!

OMGZ!
I'm playing a game, were losing, have one hive (but we have one motion and 3 def chambers), and were slowly being taken over (I believe the map was hera, not imprtant though). I be my usual skulk self, charge marines, until I see that they have heavy armor. Now after being plastered several times I see I have full resource, so I go Lerk, something I normally hardly do unless its to support a onos in an attack with umbra. Six HA HMG marines and a lot of spikes later I'm kicked from the server because I keep killing them then running back to the safety of my faithful gorge's def towers. Woo NS starting to get a whole lot CS, kicked because youre on a killin spree!
I love the Lerk, Ever since my first day that I figured out hes not JUST support class. I used to play lerk to my teams fades, just umbra and let them eat what they wanted. But something was lacking, I didnt like to run away from every fight, and wiat for backup, see a lowguarded expansion and wail for some backup to take it down (Im Lerk, I just provide Umbra) So one fatefull day I decide, enough Is enough, IM gonna try to eat that factory myself, CAnt turret in way, I think, Run up and umbra turret, Chomp Chomp, it dies in like 3 seconds, Fair enough, falp backt o Factory, Eat that up, Dies in like 10 seconds. And my energy bar is still up (Always get REgen for Umbra, now makes Lerk a flying mouth that wont stop) So I proceed to eat every last turret adn resource collector, max, 2 mins im out with a nice empty expansion. Thats when I started to play more aggressivly. my eyes were opened, I wasnt a Support class, I was an entirely differnt class. (stopped playing support to fades, started playing assault) Before id hide outside their base and umbra for Arty Fades, took them forever to get work done that I could do in seconds (Turrets taste yummy) So I start palying more aggressivly, and the Fades follow suit, I fly in, Bust an umbra, dn chew up a building, Fades blink in beside me and help me out (Goes down in 3 seconds instead of 10) but I realise I dont need them as much as they need me, so I help eat base then move on, while they decide to go find a gorge to heal up. 2 more bases later, they catch up, and we assault spawn.
Thats my first week of Lerk. Week 2 involved a lot more Solo base assault, and my discovery of Spore cloud. Id played many games where we got 3 hives up, almost instanly all tema goes onus or fade. I, as I always do now, Go Lerk, then I decided to try out all aliens tech, I tried gorge babblers, Skulk Xenocide, then as Lerk, Spore cloud. ITS INSANELY EASY TO KILL with spore cloud. and I can sit very far away, and should I get in a spot of bother, Umbra and spike.
Now im a truly offensive Lerk. I wait for noone, I run into a base, umbra, then chew 1 turret, fly back, heal, then fly in Umbra chew another turret, then fly back heal then Umbra chew factory, then Phase Gate (if available) then Resource, then finish off with a turret desert. Spore cloud entrances when I hear footstep, fly up high and wait for tehm to start buiding, Spore (If available, if not, Spike) then swoop and munch a marine, then eat his building. they think twice about comng back, even if comm demands it.
MY best combo so far, Adrenaline (almost a Pre Req) Carapace or Regeneration (Have yet to decide, its mainly what the situation calls for, should I be attacking many turrets, no marines, Regen, if marins then carapace) and of late, Scent of fear (Knowing where marines are when Spore clouding is Sooo much fun, you see them run away, then start back, Spore cloud in his way = dead meatsack.
As for me, im a true converted Lerk fanatic.
In fact my new Catch cry is EAT EM UP! YUM YUM!!! (for when we assault a minibase and eat all turrets, or skulk rush at start)
A good Lerk is truly a Great addition to any strike force.
And hsould you want to learn more aobut Lerk or Practice your flying skills, Startup an empty LAN game, and start flying, theres a great flying guide around, read it and learn.
After last night's play, I've determined something.
Marines hate Lerks. They just utterly and totally despise them.
Lerk, Regen, Adrenaline, and Scent of Fear. I died twice in that game as Lerk. Several near-death experiences (involving grenades) but only two measly deaths. And dozens upon dozens of lines of Marine spamming "OMG DIE YOU STUPID LERK" and the like.
With Curious Gorge and his stack of 9 DCs backing me, we assaulted the Marine Spawn ... I'd pop an Umbra, he'd heave Web from inside it. When the Marines came into "I WILL KNIFE J00 LERK!!1" ... *schlick* goes the Web, chomp chomp goes the Lerk, and *pssht* goes the Healing Spray.
When Spores came into play ... well ... I just flapped around in their spawn gassing the vile beings out. Even with the entire team (9 at the time, I think) ripping LMG into the air, they just couldn't take me down. If shots happened to clear the Umbra I dropped occasionally, they got patched up by Regeneration. And if they stood still for more than a second, a Spore dropped at their feet.
Just thought i'd spit out a story for you guys here. It was on NS_Nothing, I don't like the level much, but thats another story. Our team was doing quite poorly, we had 1 hive, and they had HA+HMG for a while. What happened was, 3 of us got our act together, and decided to be an absolute pain in the arse. The marines had a compitent commander, with lots of resouces, he was bolting down all the hives something nasty, but we were compitent, inteligent players. One of us went up top, on that lil walkway, practicaly unseen by the marines below. He evolved to a gorge, and started to build a subtle few chambers up there, pretty much unseen till there was a row of 5 defencive chambers, and a few offencive chambers. I don't come into the story yet, i was still slowly kicking **obscenity** as a skulk. (biting down a HA/HMG from full is a feel-good experience.) So they were up there, spiking away, slowly chiping down the 3(!) turret factories down there, and the 2(!) others to the side that they built in an attempt to get us up there. (spike spike spike, even HA were afraid to stand around long enough to build a siege. ^_^) Well, i was about to join in the fight, when they started sending jetpacks flying around. I went lurk, and became a flying mass of teeth. I was charging them down inside the vents and in the open spaces, biting them to death, all while flying. Only carapace as my upgrade, i bit down 5 marrines per run, and then went to work on the turret factories. I died a few times, when i miss-steped, and fell to my doom, because i didn't have the stamina to fly, i had used it all spiking. We still lost, but taking down two jet pack marines in that large vent close by the large room was a great experience, especialy the swearing afterwords. ^_^
Yay! for lerks... almost every game that i have palyed i've been the only lerk flying around... what i have yet to see, but what i think should be done is a group of six highly skilled lerks... i mean if they all casted umbra over a marine outpost they could all chomp at the turret factory and have it dead in seconds... then they could eat away the rest of the outpost... and thing of how fast 6 spore clouds would go through a marine base... i think that would be almost a worse site to marines than multiple onos... lerks rule
Getting Scent of Fear with 3-hive Lerk is the best 2 RPs you will ever spend. Not only is it useful for catching the last jetpacker zipping around the Power Silo (force him to jetpack through spore clouds muhaa), its hilarity value is unparalleled. Rejoice as the injured marines pop up on hive sight, and you hear "Commander, I need a medpack STAT!"
oh my. I tried to get good with the fly-by biteing....and wow. Its incredible the damage you can do. You have to plan a quick escape most of the time...but wow. I have not quite perfected it(in my opinion at least) at much as the flying spike flinging death rush, but its almost there.
well, i got bored the other night so i started a lerk flying map... its gonna be just for a single person on a lan game to practice flying through some different obsticles so you can get better at turning and controlling your speed. Should be a good help, its gonna start off easy then get harder as you progress through the map, it will have lots of good ways to practice your flying
