The Flame-thrower

<div class="IPBDescription">do we really need one?</div> alright supposesly everyone wants a flame-thrower, but I don't think that NS should have one here's why
1- whats the point of it? for anti structures you already have nade spam which does the trick very nicely, and a FT wouldn't be as good at takign down OC forts around corners, so the only thing I could see it being used is to Spawn Camp and kill the hive, if the flame thrower had a wide AOE (area of effect) then it'd be pretty easy for 2-3 marines to spawn camp a hive just torching away at everything
2- what would the aliens to have a counter? a chamber? an upgrade? a race? the fine game of NS has pushed the HL engine to the max and has made an awesome game and done what has thought to not be able to do, but it still has limits. we can't get 30 more weapons, and 20 more races
3- if anything it should be the ALIENS that get the flame thrower, and put it as the onos third hive ability, then it might be worth getting both a third hive and a onos
thats just my thoughts on that matter

first off if you don't kill a lerk in a vent with your 150 shots, you deserve to die, but they even give you the pistol and the knife in case you need more

And your point is...? How does that make it so difficult to smoke a marine out of a vent?
andways, animals right and people would just camp with there newly aquired flame thrower , if anything I vote the onos should learn to breath fire and get the FT it anything
They can be - they just aren't the pain in the rear a lerk can be. That's why the marines should get the flamethrower.
the marines aren't suppose to be creeping and crawling in vents and bugging the aliens, the marines are suppose to be marching in numbers and tatically conqueering the map and slaughtering all thoose that get in the way

What the aliens really need are more long range weapons, why don't we give them that?
No. My reasoning is "Let's give the marines a weapon that fills a gap in their arsenal and provides protection against a difficult-to-counter threat." They have multipurpose weapons (LMG), close-range weapons (Knife), assault weapons (Shottie & HMG), and structure clearing (Greandes & GL), etc. But they have no weapon that protects them from a lerk in a vent.

whats a GL ? for reals, lob a few nades up tehre and you might just kill that dang lerk, and if not , oh well its not that big a deal
since when have lerks in vents been that big a deal? the only time it bugs is when the vent is in your base, but most vents at marine starts you can weld shut at the other end of it so its not that big of a problem, I think that for one scenario making a whole new weapon is a little much.
the thing that really hurts the rine team about lerks is people that spend there whole time camping the stupid vent trying to kill the lerk instead of going out and helping the team.
how about we give BOTH the alien onos and the marines flamethrowers finally the two races come on equel ground, in an inferno death match to the finishh!
the impression I've been given is that he's working on the Volumetrics - ie the same volume of flame comes out for different shaped areas (that makes no sense - i mean, if you shoot it up a vent, it'll go a LONG way, if you shoot it into open, it doesn't go far etc)
once the code for that has been done, it can be given to what ever the hell they choose...

Because, when you think about it, you're on a space ship. It wouldn't make any sense to throw something with <i>high-explosives</i> and detonate, rupturing the hull... and the flame thrower would work something like the grenade launcher, sending out a ever-expanding "grenade"-like projectile with a slight upwards arc (gas-based flame thrower) or downwards arc (liquid based flame thrower) that would bounce off of walls like a normal grenade does, and after a while the expanding fireball would just fade out and cease to exist. anyone within the fireball would take damage per second, like spores.
To counter it, it'd possibly blow-up on the marine's death dealing FF to everything around it, do half damage to fades, and quarter damage to onii, as it IS supposed to clear vents and burn buildings (does double damage to buildings) and that's the only actual use i see it having, being like the grenade launcher; Absolutely devistating against lower life forms and buildings. It could replace the fade's Acid Rocket turning the fade into a even better melee unit; blink in, flame, blink out, heal, blink in, swipe, rinse, and repeat... And then it could be put on the onos to replace Charge...
BAH, maybe it just shouldn't be done... to difficult to decide to who it goes to.

Unfortunately, you really can only have two of these three factors at a time, making the flamethrower the very bane of development teams everywhere.
