zero, just one thing that has been somewhat bothering me
you've got the straight lines + angles + symmetry, and suddenly there's that curvy bit on the top of the RT. dunno if your gonna keep it like that, its just minor, but maybe consider doing more of the not so curvy stuff in that part instead? i dunno, might just be me, has anyone else noticed the curvy bit?
also, the way you have the green on there looks a bit plasticy
in any case, looks pretty sexeh for your first skin ever <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It's probably too early to even show this, but ahh well. Here you go. I guess I'm just trying to say that I've started. This is like... an hour's work. 30 some minutes were spent on eating and rendering and everything in between though.

Noo! I no longer have the best graphics card of NSA!
Does this look less plasticy? It's what I intend to do to the texture after I have the details sorted out. Right now still in the process of detailing the skin. I'm not quite sure what to do with the curvy bit. I actually like it myself.

zero, it looks way too clean. and way too bright. try to make it as close to the original as possible. and add some wear and tear near the edges like doodleboy.
doodleboy, that lookse awesome. it needs a bit more dark green and i think that is great.

These things arnt hauled in via a truck, they are fabricated out of mid air by the commander! They are gonna be perfectly spotless when they join the ranks of physical existence along with the rines and aliens.
On the subject of the skin being too bright, I agree with that, looks almost a bit cartoony. Its pretty dark out in those ships.
Its really really difficult to explain, but they have to somehow keep the clean look, but still keep the dark detail that most other models have, I think its alot easier to keep this type of detail with a lower res texture, ironically.
If you take a close look at the high detail LMG models that are circulating (should be somewhere on nsarmslab.com) youll see that it looks a little too 'clean' in my opinion, not enough detail. Scratches and abbrasions on the gun would fix this problem, but sense materials are created out of thin air in NS, that wouldnt be realistic. Some kind of conundrum. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Yeah, I was kind of thinking about how the beat up equipment the frontiersman were using just did not make any sense when you really think about it. However it just is more thematic to have them using old looking equipment, what with them being the underdogs of the universe and all.
I'm taking the overbrightness and the cleanliness into consideration, thanks for the feedback. Eh like I said earlier this is just the beginning of the skin. The weathering of the skin I'll do after I finish the detailing. It just seems easier to me that way.
well since my computers hard drive crapped out on me.. i cant do the stuff i was supose to be finishing up so i started working on the res tower on my sisters craptacular computer.. heres what i got so far
I'm loving Ax's skin the most so far. Sex on a stick. I really should rig the model already. I think the center of the top thing needs more details though. The side panel vents also seem kinda large to me but thats just personal taste. Other than that, I want to see it when it gets coloured. Smexy.
ax, if i may be so bold...i think the textures are a bit too grainy...maybe it'll look smoother in game *shrug*
other wise great work <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i love that axman.. care to release the skin like that (black) as well as green.. if you are adding green to it that is.. i use the black skinned models <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
yeah ill make it in both just for you <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> lol i was probly going to do that anyway... yes i know it might seem grainy but i have many differtn styles of skinning and i felt like usuing this one on it... If u were to see this technique on a higher resolution map it wouldnt look grainy but rather good <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> lol i mihgt be wrong i just make do differnt techniques when i feel like doing them.
i think ns blurs the textures a little but idk just seems like it to me..
i usuly have about 5 6 layers and this one i have like 20... trying to get more organzied.... but i sitll dont name the layers or put them in folders lol
only 20...i have like 50 sometimes. i never name them, It can be a bit confusing. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Thanks everyone for the crits. I'll darken the highlights next week when I get to work on this again. Also, I'll try to finish it by sunday next week.
heres a preview of it on the model(no lighting) and the map.
