Im looking foward to both the 360 and ps3, but will probably buy the ps3, for these reasons:
Socom 4 Devil May Cry 4 New Killzone MGS4 I-8
And the backwards comaptibility with all of my games.
In the end, it all comes down to the games, and looking at Xbox360's lineup, im not impressed at all. I think it will be a close race this time, but the ps3 will again win. The sales of lots of strong games can trumph over the mega-hits of a few. (Which is what happened with the ps2 and xbox).

Market analysts are predicting Xbox360s (oh god, i hate that name) are starting at $349. When the PS3 comes out, the technology will be cheaper, and thus, the PS3 might be a little cheaper.

I'll be getting all 3 consoles, and damn well enjoying each one. My beef is with Sony's shifty marketing/hype machine mojo, not the system nor the games it'll eventually have.
Right off the bat, they've got Insomniac and Naughty Dog on their side. From the get-go, the games from these companies alone (Jak and Ratchet trilogies) were enough to make me cave in and get a PS2. Insomniac branching out with I-8 also looks like a must-have already, some sort of bastard child of Call of Duty and Half-Life 2 (alien-wise, at least ).
Microsoft has the most pure sex/bliss controller on the face of the planet, if I must say so myself, and will be a joy to play. Halo 3 will eventually be huge, and let's face it, we all gotta tune in to see how it ends. Gears of War - tactical third person sci-fi shooter + supposed seamless online and split-screen co-op? Sign me up! There's going to also be some good PC ports/versions of games on here that'll still be fun for the possibility of split-screen gaming and the like. Oh yeah. Bioware. I rest my case.
Of course, I also have to buy one because my first title is also shipping on it
Then there's Nintendo. There's still some uncertainty as to what they'll do this time around, but we do know this: Backwards compatibility. This is a hugely awesome thing for people to catch up on their nintendo lore - something I admittedly need to do; I came on late a little over a year ago. Their first party games also have a habit of being pretty cool, and they're talking a lot of things that I really dig.
Then there'll be the years afterwards when titles get better and better and more streamlined within the limitations of the new hardware. PCs will take a dominating hardware hold once again after a year or two (maybe less), and then we'll get right back to the status quo we're at now - tons of games for all platforms, many of them fecal matter, but many of them good fun for all. Whee!

The only console series I care about is GTA, and Rockstar has been really great about porting to the PC with unlimited draw distance and hi-res textures (albeit after 6 months). Halo was awesome, and used to be my favorite console game, but Bungie has clearly demonstrated they know how to ruin a concept with Halo 2 (probably with a little help from Microsoft, which needs Halo 3 for 360). If I play Halo 3 at all, it will be at a friend's house. The only Nintendo series I really enjoy are Mario Kart and Metroid, but since Kart gets boring fast and they're not developing any more 2D Metroids (unless they do something for mobile phones, which is unlikely), I have no reason to buy any Nintendo stuff for the forseeable future.
Also, the combined cost of all those consoles and their accessories and games is going to bankrupt you, unless you're a rich white kid. Meanwhile, I will be bankrupting myself trying to build a computer that will run Unreal 4 engine maxed out. :p
The only reason I would buy a console is if I was poor, but I guess you guys like most of their games. So, don't take this the wrong way, I'm not calling all console games stupid and the consoles weak, I'm just giving my personal reasons for not wanting any of the "next-gen" boxes.

I'm virtually undecided on this one so far on which console to buy. However to be fair to the PS3 is the 360 and friends not closer to completion than it? Being that its (supposidly) being released a year later. I would honostly like to see the next E3, then judge the consoles. Right now its far too early to have any fair say in which is better yet.

you know, people say the cell has so many processors in it, and they're right, but they don't know the nature of those processors and the memory architecture as to how they're set up.
the vast majority of those processors are small stream processors directly hooked up to their own very small memory, they can't share that memory directly. Now this is still an amazing chip, but it requires better programming and a proper understanding of its workings to take advantage of it. It's like sticking a whole bunch of programmable graphics chips right next to the primary core.
So before you go around toting it has 8 p4s in one chip, think again.
One more thing, the pipeline for the primary core is HUGE! This means that the clock speed will be high (don't be fooled by clock speed), but that if there is a branch misprediction (common) that the branch fault penalty will be that much higher.

Right. Thats why GTA:SA was the top selling game of last year, right?

No, it was the top-selling game because it was the third in a franchise of massive popularity on a system with over 80 million installed users worldwide. The Xbox may be a superior system, but it's only built off a market share of about 15-20 million at most. That's another big reason Microsoft openly admits Sony will 'win' this round regardless - they only hope to narrow the gap.

OK, so the tech demos they showed were run on weaker machines. Keep in mind that the pictures we oggled over (Killzone 2, anyone?) were pre-rendered. According to Sony, pre-rendered to fit the eventual PS3 stats, but still, pre-rendered. So, sorry, but this is not going to excite me.

Agreed.
XBox360 has great power.
Revolution has great games.
PS3 has pre-rendered cutscenes baby.
True, but largely insignificant for the argument:
Both companies have user bases in the tens of millions. They are both in a situation comparable to Nintendo during the SNES era: Even if only half of their audience liked the console, and only half of that group was willing to buy a new one, they'd still have a user base big enough to create a sufficient market for software on the next console. They're more or less doomed to moderate success - look at the by all accounts inferior N64 and its sales compared to the early PS1 (not to mention the Dreamcast).

Im most liekly going to go this route aswell but I am leaning more towards revolution becouse of the back log of clasics which I missed
Socom 4
Devil May Cry 4
New Killzone
MGS4
I-8
And the backwards comaptibility with all of my games.

Whee!

Well, I'll stick with PC.
Low blow...
So...pulse, you say you've gone to GameFAQs before. Have you ever witnessed the awesomeness of LUE?
Microsoft has already announced they're timing the Halo 3 release to coincide with the PS3's rumored release. And I dunno if you saw the ridiculous hype or dollars that cycled through the halo 2 launch... But 'dead in the water' is hardly an appropriate phrase.

the vast majority of those processors are small stream processors directly hooked up to their own very small memory, they can't share that memory directly.
But isn't that the same thing that gave the PS2 such a landslide advantage over its competitors last time? Unless Microsoft gets stuck in a Dreamcast scenario, which is impossible seeing as how everyone without a PC is addicted to Halo 2 on Xbox Live.

hahahahahahahaha

Also of note that I forgot before: Silicon Knights' supposed "we're PS3 exclusive now, look at all the uber-awesome stuff we can do with this incredible platform" apparently came at the cost of $15 million in payment from Sony to go exclusive.
