It'll pop-up like a real WW2 Luger would. Any doubts? Just swap the mag and give that toggle thing a tug. Btw it won't release unless a full magazine is inserted, or there is no magazine in the weapon.

Your post does make me wonder though if NS2 is going to do realistic reloading (with each mag having a certain number of cartridges and if you reload early you lose them). Probably not, the nanites probably put the spare bullets into your spare magazine automatically. :)
The Axe looks like a powerful weapon and the pistol will be good for killing aliens if u r in some trouble like if your main gun runs out of bullets anyway i really like the look of them and can't wait to see the other weapons. :)

I think your a little confused about what i was telling him.
He was asking "do you guys think that the lever will pop up when the pistol needs a reload?", so he means when the gun runs out of bullets and he's asking if the toggle-lock thing will lock in the up position. The answer is yes, the Luger is designed to do that to tell you it's empty like pretty much every other semi-automatic pistol in existence.
Btw yes the luger magazine has a spring... not sure what your asking lol.
Here's some videos to explain what i'm saying.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMcWcM5XDEc&feature=related" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMcWcM5XDEc...feature=related</a> Short video shows the toggle lock when gun is empty. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlHp4wBxmAU&feature=related" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlHp4wBxmAU...feature=related</a> Longer video shows the toggle lock up when gun is empty. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8C5Mjh4l54&feature=related" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8C5Mjh4l54...feature=related</a> Slow motion shows that that toggle lock thing jumps with every shot.
Cause the luger sucks, and to show that other pistols lock open when their empty (btw this guy wrote the best description: "This is a short video of the Colt 1911, the definitive U.S. sidearm for over 80 years. Enjoy!!!" :P) <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qny7LiMvlQo&feature=related" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qny7LiMvlQo...feature=related</a>
O ya if anyones wonder, YES when your shooting the NS2 pistol, the toggle lock will jump like a real luger as shown in the concept art.
When I read "axe" I already felt myself being concerned about the shape of the axe-blade. Before I looked at the screenshots I already figured the classical axe shape would just not fit into the futuristic environment which is typical for NS maps. So I figured it has so to be somewhat rectangular, and that is pretty much what you seem to have thought as well. It still looks a bit odd I believe. Maybe you should try to apply more roundness without harming the futuristic feel. You could for example make slightly smoothened 45-degree curves in the blade, keeping the rectangular extrusion from the grip as it is.
Something like this (probably gotta mess with proportions):

I love the pistol but the axe just suck, i hate it.
I don't FEEL like hitting somthing effectively with it. When you hit with an axe you have some rotative movment, and hitting a hard tree or an hard carapace sounds pretty the same to me. And with this model, i dont feel like making damage to anything... You can explain me physics and prove me that a non-curved axe is much effective, but the most important part is the FEELING. And the feeling with this axe is not here. I won't enjoy using it, And a lot of people here think the same.
But, I LOVE the curved axe model. It's just PERFECT

Ya i know what you mean, about the axe. I'd expect the curved version would be needed to defeat the hard shell on the RT ANNNNDDDD ALIENS. Maybe that's why the devs decided to copy the Gerber axe because they didn't want people to think the axe would look like (and therefore perform like) an actual weapon... implying it will be very nerfed against aliens. Instead they want you to make campfire wood with it. This explains why the marines are green btw... normally they fight on a forest planet so they're used to needing a hatchet.
One good thing though... ONLY ONE... about the axe is it sort of looks like a pick axe or other mining tool. Therefore it will look better when we're playing 20 variations of digsiege_fnl and have to mine through the rocks to clear the path :)
Btw i told my dad about this and he thinks the idea of a folding axe is the dumbest idea ever imagined. I agree, because even Gerber doesn't sell it (OR SHOW IT) on there website, despite inventing it: <a href="http://www.gerbergear.com/index.php/search_results/axe" target="_blank">http://www.gerbergear.com/index.php/search_results/axe</a> This sort of implies the actual tool is crap in real life... perhaps it is prone to breaking, or just plain useless looking so no one wanted to invest $90 for one. This explains why so many people find the axe's appearance ackward in NS2 (because they imagine holding it in there hands and get nothing but a psychological turn off).
Can get this Gerber axe though: <img src="http://www.gerbergear.com/images/products/22-49470-1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Don't forget Battlefield 1942 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Company of Heroes and and and ... :P
Also FocusedWolf, do you even read what you post? Nazi themes by having WW2-era inspired weapons... You were funny, but now you are bordering on the edge of ludicrous, some might even think you're way beyond that edge :P
@FocusedWolf ...you just have to be trolling if you think seriously that the developers have drawn connections to Nazi Germany with the black armour and one part from a gun. I mean the first is a color and the second is ONE detail that only a gun-nut like yourself would take notice of and even more astonishing to bother trolling everyone else that UWE is doing this intentionally. It probably has some kind of meaning to you if you really have to talk so loudly about this, but what you should know is that people doesn't feel the same way you do, so if you are a decent person shouldn't you realize that there's no point in discussing the technicalities in a game that some guys are making with the intention (most likely) just to make it look cool? Just my two cents, as you are kind trolling everyone on these forums and I'm not sure that you are getting that.

I love the pistol. It doesn't look like a typical fps future sidearm, which is good. Often when devs try to deviate from typical fps future sidearm © they make it look like a pansy pea shooter, but this one still looks beefy. I think it'll be a lot of fun; I'll probably use it for the sole reason that it looks cool, and if anyone tries to call me a noob because I'm not playing well using a pistol when I shouldn't, I'll tell them to bugger off.
The axe...I'm not sure. I mean, I understand why it looks like it does, and maybe my issues are due to the fact that I love axes as weapons. I just really like a sweeping curved blade for an axe. Of course, for a switch axe, that doesn't make any sense. So what I'm trying to say is I'd like to complain, but I see why you did what you did, and it looks somewhat believable and still fun. I won't be using this when I shouldn't though :P
Anyways, excellent! Can't wait till you throw me in the engine test group! I was a very late pre-order so I won't expect it soon :P

Cause the luger sucks, and to show that other pistols lock open when their empty (btw this guy wrote the best description: "This is a short video of the Colt 1911, the definitive U.S. sidearm for over 80 years. Enjoy!!!" :P) <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qny7LiMvlQo&feature=related" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qny7LiMvlQo...feature=related</a>
O ya if anyones wonder, YES when your shooting the NS2 pistol, the toggle lock will jump like a real luger as shown in the concept art.
Before I looked at the screenshots I already figured the classical axe shape would just not
fit into the futuristic environment which is typical for NS maps. So I figured it has so to be
somewhat rectangular, and that is pretty much what you seem to have thought as well. It
still looks a bit odd I believe. Maybe you should try to apply more roundness without harming
the futuristic feel. You could for example make slightly smoothened 45-degree curves in
the blade, keeping the rectangular extrusion from the grip as it is.
Something like this (probably gotta mess with proportions):

Heh, I'll have a look, but first you guys get a:

I don't FEEL like hitting somthing effectively with it.
When you hit with an axe you have some rotative movment, and hitting a hard tree or an hard carapace sounds pretty the same to me.
And with this model, i dont feel like making damage to anything...
You can explain me physics and prove me that a non-curved axe is much effective, but the most important part is the FEELING.
And the feeling with this axe is not here. I won't enjoy using it, And a lot of people here think the same.
But, I LOVE the curved axe model. It's just PERFECT

Maybe you should, you know, play with it first before having an opinion about the feel.

Can get this Gerber axe though:

Bleh, get of your high horse... The only postcount that is epic and has any value at all, on any board throughout the internetZ, is obviously that of <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showuser=15175" target="_blank">esuna</a>
You know ppl are already tired of telling you that most of you posts lack of any quality...
On topic, I like the axe, the pistol is nice too. Luger design is really something different, but nice and definitly fits in the "gritty" ns2 universe :)
The fact is that it looks cool. So what if the reference happens to be from Nazi Germany?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
So it's "ok" if a large number of people, including those that don't post here, that haven't ordered NS2, that have no idea NS exists (until it's advertised on steam when it's released), will end up buying NS2 and it's "ok" if they find the German Nazi themes repulsive. And it's equally "ok" if they just don't buy NS2 because of the German Nazi themes? At this point i'd bet there's a good chance we're going to see other influences, maybe this Friday. At least this "creative" use of symbolism doesn't affect you right?
p.s. I was interested in upgrading to the special edition, simply to play the Alpha and despite my logic that the black armor is inferior to the green, but when the "black armor" clicked with the NS2 pistol (which is nothing more then a Walther P38 + a Luger with a ammo counter slapped on), that the black armor came to equal SS / Nazi uniform (i'm not yet sold on the idea the black armor is meant to indicate SAS soldiers). I just assume wait till there's more info about what exactly is in this game. I know the devs won't let us down in this area :)

Depends on who you ask.

So you're saying WW2 games arn't successful, like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor series and that sci fi games with very strong ww2 and nazi themes, like Killzone didn't sell a few hundred thousand copies?
Also FocusedWolf, do you even read what you post? Nazi themes by having WW2-era inspired weapons... You were funny, but now you are bordering on the edge of ludicrous, some might even think you're way beyond that edge :P
...you just have to be trolling if you think seriously that the developers have drawn connections to Nazi Germany with the black armour and one part from a gun.

You can't decipher that I have a vested interest in this game beyond your "oh looks kewl" assessment? I have no problem with the reference as it were - if there's no other option, fine - my problem is with why such a specific reference was chosen in the face of a multitude of viable, more NS-y solutions. Answer my question: A stalhelm looks cool too, so cool StarWars used it, but if it suddenly appeared in NS would you not question why such a specific reference was included?
Depends on who you ask.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
how i could be so blind, the gun its obviously a reference to the nazis and the black armor is equal to the ss uniform.
and the TSA LOGO!!!!!!!
the only nazi here are you, <b>you are the one who has a luger</b>
just wait until the game is released and change the model of the alien to a jew<b>

OH NO! LOOK AT MY AVATAR! ITS A BLACK UNIFORM IM NAZI!
