I'm relatively new to this game and new to this forum, but I was wondering if the upcoming update was content or optimization or both. This seems like a pretty popular posted topic and I din't know where else would be a good place to find this info.

It appears to be a bit of both; the content part of the update is rather major, as it adds a large story-relevant area to the game that I shall not spoil if you have not already been through the wiki/wandered around these forums. It also, I believe, will remove bases' ability to terraform the environment, which should improve performance significantly (as having to track terrain changes was a major performance draw), though updates focusing on optimization are still a ways away. Content appears to be the main priority.
Of course, everyone should correct me if I'm wrong.

I probably should have done more research than I did. I found their development logs on https://trello.com/b/yxoJrFgP/subnautica-development and if I read it right, the tab that says "B70 Precursor Gun/ Bones Field" is what will be in the update then I am super excited!
I recall hearing the "Cyclops Health" update will be released this April, I don't have a way to prove it though.
Nooo! I don't want that update! The last time I was piloting the Cyclops, I umm, well, I sorta hit something. Honestly, he hit me! It wasn't my fault! Who knew the Floating Island was such an aggressive driver!!

personally i don't mind waiting to build another base as long as the update doesn't have any bugs
Good one

answer: Now!
Any day now.
Aw man, a whole nother 3 years?! Get your stuff together UWE!!1
Its just gonna be a 12 gig update that completes the game at that point
And includes a sequel.
in additon a full story linking natural selection and subnotica perfectly together to the ponit you can piece events perfectly in sync
And multiplayer across both Subnautica and NS2seemlessly, and a free copy of NS2, now with VR support.
That does it; I'm gettin' the bat.
So when's the next update...
