this way we can understand the meaning
This is a thread for people to explain the reason behind the names
since I started this thread, I will go first

My name was origionally That_annoying_kid, becuase a group of people would regularly play UT on the schools LAN, and I was a sniper, and in my youth *sighs and reminises* (sp?) I was very annoying, and since I was an excellent sniper, the ::headshot:: sound would echo the room, and people would yell @ that annoying kid, and I guess it had a ring to it, and later I started typing that as th@, becuase I have always found the @ sign cool.

well there's my heart warming story, what about yours?

My name originates from my military callsign, Rogue, which I've changed to Renegade.

mmm, leet replacements in names ;D

my in game name is {OCCS}Thansal

    Thansal is my o/l name
My first really o/l game was The Realm and at the time I was reading the dragon lance series, I really liked the char Tanis, so I just started running sounds through my head, Thansal worked

{OCCS} Is the abreviation for Oberlin College Computer Science (my major) So one of the guys who is graduating this year came up with the idea of all of us tagging {OCCS} onto our names fo we can always find each other for games and such

I also use derivatives of thansal:
Than, Thael (tha - el), Thragnar, Tiersiel.

    Yah, I am random ;D

Its the name of the President from The West Wing

However, I am not American and I'm not deeply religious, but I chose the name because I like the show and its just a funky name.

Actually my name was out of a series book I used to love by K.A. applegate; Animorphs. It was one of the evil alien names for all you people needing this in laymans terms, the number comes with it.

I'm trying to think of a diff name to use now once and a while, how about "Land fish"?

When I was a young Marine Lance Corporal stationed in Cuba, we were guarding some camps of cubans that had tried to escape the cuban dictatorship and get to miami, and had been picked up in their horrible little leaky boats by the coast guard and dropped off with us to watch while they were processed. Anyhoo, one of those little guys was cooking a barbequed rat (called a 'banana rat' by us, but it was more like a big viscious prairiedog), and some other Marines bet me $20 I wouldn't eat it. So I did, because $20 is $20 when you only make $900 a month. They called me Mr. Evil after that. When I was getting a new ISP account a while later, Mr. Evil was taken so I used MonsieurEvil.

    The end.

Old Robitussin commercial where the effects of other leading cough suppressants was a groggy disconnected feeling. Robitussin didn't give you "medicine head". I used Medicine*Head for a while, but shortened it because I was jealous of those with shorter names.

The HWGuy from Team Fortress. The "in a Can" comes from the first time I picked up an HMG/HA. I thought to myself, Hey this is like being an HWGuy, only in a can, and it stuck.

what can I say, I was very unoriginal when I was 13 (1993, when DOOM came out). ;)

But I've had it for so long, why change? It may be kinda dorky to say so, but this name is just as much a part of me as my real name is...

The only other nick I've had before this one was Death Incarnate (red included. Bonus point for whoever gets the reference :P), which I used to play LORD (2 Bonus points) with.

I really don't know. Narfwak is just. . . Narfwak. It doesn't really mean anything. It just is.

I also challenge you all to come up with a more creative name. Everyone I see on servers seems to think I have the coolest name of all time (some guys on an NS server thought I was the best player ever just because of the name - the encouragement actually made me do better, too!).

So, just try. You will fail, but I'm interesting in what you will come up with in the process.

I used to play X-Wing V Tie Fighter as Epyon because that Gundam just looked so cool. However I decided I should create my own legacy instead of borrowing from another. So I sat around and thought of the dumbest thing I could think of, but my brother "Shnagenburg" totally beat me. Oh yeah and the caps lock was on and I was too lazy to fix the mR. And a legacy was born :-D

When I was a N00b in Starcraft I sat around one day making a pile of Archons. While they were being built I poked one of them for a while and it was like "Anhialate, Obliterate, Irradicate," and some other synonyms for destroy. I kinda liked Irradicate, and Obliterate, so I used Irradicater for a while, then my friend used it to so I became Obliterater. When i sent the Archons to the enemy base I was amazed at how fast a couple of sunken colonys and a bunch of hydralisks killed 4,000+ Minerals worth of heavily upgraded archons, but the name stuck...

Anyways. Sirus comes from Cyrus which comes from ChronoTrigger.

Well, back in the day i used to be called Cyrus, a refrence to Con Air, but after seeing at least a dozen people with the same name, i canged it to SmegHead (hehe). When i first got into Science and Industry, i changed it to Mr. Maxwell (very bodygaurd-ish, and a refrence to Gundam Wing). After a fiasco with a clan, i changed my name again to Übernoob for, somthing like five minutes until they started calling me a crabby azzmonger, by combining my middle name of Edward with Crab i get Edward Crab, or Ed Crab, wich sounds like Headcrab, so the name sticks. It's even in my offical papers now too.

    Christopher Edward "Crab" Hertfelder

    BTW, ^^^ Worst name EVER

I put an '@' sign instead of an 'a' because the 'a' kinda looks like a swirly star making out an 'a'...or something.
  • EclipseEclipse Join Date: 2003-01-18 Member: 12444Members
Well...I got this thing about half-life, on my old comp it crashed...a lot...the reg. game crashed and froze, and online crashed and froze, coming from the insanely stable and awesomeness that was Tribes, where I used Atma Weapon as my name(lil bit o history) I was disapointed.(I'm a late boomer for HL, I didnt pick it up until it was way old)

But anyways, I figured to myself, why keep 1 name for a game that I only play for s**ts and giggles..since in my bizarre mind keeping a single name requires dedication. So I basically made up a new name for myself everytime a new mod came out that I wanted to try, or just when I felt like.

Along comes NS and I'm strugglin to think of a name, when I glance over to my little drink stand and see a nice pack of Eclipse gum. I shrug my shoulders ~name "Eclipse" and there I am.

Of course 6 months later and I'm in a clan sorta makes it moot...oh well Mine came from gum and an initial loathing of HL
